야고보서 2장

1 나의 형제들아, 영광의 주이신 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 믿음을 외모들을 보는 것과 더불어 취하지 말라.

1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

2 그러므로 만일 너희의 집회에 금반지 하나를 끼고 근사한 복장을 입은 남자가 온다면, 그리고 천한 의상을 입은 가난한 남자가 온다면,

2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

3 그리하여 너희가 화려한 옷을 입은 그를 존중하여 그에게 말하기를, “당신은 여기 좋은 곳에 앉으소서.” 하고, 가난한 자에게 말하기를, “너는 거기 서 있든지 여기 내 발등상 아래 앉든지 하라.” 한다면,

3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

4 그때는 너희가 너희끼리 편파적으로 행하여 악한 생각들로 판단하는 자들이 된 것이 아니냐?

4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 나의 사랑을 받는 형제들아, 경청하라. “하나님께서 이 세상의 가난한 자들을 믿음 안에서 부유한 자들로 선택하시고 그분께서 자신을 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 왕국의 상속자들로 선택하신 것이 아니냐?”

5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6 그러나 너희는 가난한 자들을 멸시하였느니라. 부유한 사람들은 너희를 압제하고 너희를 심판석들로 끌어가지 아니하느냐?

6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

7 그들은 너희가 그 이름으로 불리우는 그 합당한 이름을 모독하지 아니하느냐?

7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

8 만일 너희가 성경 기록을 따라 “너는 네 이웃을 너 자신과 같이 사랑할지니라.” 한 왕가의 법을 실현한다면 너희는 잘하는 것이라.

8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9 그러나 만일 너희가 외모들을 본다면 너희는 죄를 짓는 것이요, 율법에 의하여 불법자들로 판명되느니라.

9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10 이는 누구든지 율법 전체를 지키려 하다가 한 항목에서 범죄하면 그는 전체에 관하여 유죄가 되기 때문이라.

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 이는 “간음하지 말라.”라고 말씀하신 분께서 또한 “살인하지 말라.”라고 말씀하셨기 때문이라. 이제 만일 네가 간음하지 않아도 만일 네가 사람을 죽인다면 너는 율법을 위반한 자가 되느니라.

11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 자유의 법에 의하여 심판받을 자들로서 너희는 그렇게 말하고 그렇게 행하라.

12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 이는 자비를 전혀 보이지 않은 자는 자비 없이 심판받을 것이기 때문이라. 그런즉 자비는 심판을 이기고 크게 기뻐하느니라.

13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

14 나의 형제들아, 비록 어떤 사람이 자신에게 믿음이 있다고 말하여도 행위들이 없다면 그것이 무슨 유익을 주겠느냐? 믿음이 그를 구원할 수 있겠느냐?

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15 가령 어떤 형제나 자매가 헐벗고 매일의 양식이 결핍되어 있는데,

15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16 너희 중 누군가 그들에게 말하기를, “평안 가운데 떠나라. 너희는 따뜻해지고 채워지라.” 하고는, 그럼에도 너희가 몸에 필요한 그것들을 그들에게 주지 않는다면 그것이 무슨 유익을 주겠느냐?

16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17 바로 그와 같이 믿음도 행위들 없이 그것뿐이라면 죽은 것이라.

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 진정, 어떤 사람이 “너에게 믿음이 있고 나에게 행위들이 있노라. 너의 믿음을 너의 행위들 없이 나에게 보이라. 그리하면 내가 나의 행위들로 나의 믿음을 너에게 보이겠노라.” 할 수 있으리라.

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19 네가 유일하신 하나님이 계심을 믿으니 네가 잘하는 것이라. 마귀들도 믿고 떠느니라.

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 그러나 오, 헛된 사람아, 행위들이 없는 믿음이 죽은 것임을 네가 알고자 하느냐?

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

21 우리 조상 아브라함이 자신의 아들 이삭을 제단 위에 바쳤을 때 그가 행위들로 정당함을 입증받지 아니하였느냐?

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22 어떻게 믿음이 그의 행위들과 더불어 작용하였으며 믿음이 행위들에 의하여 완전해졌는지 네가 보느냐?

22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23 그리하여 성경 기록이 성취되었으니, “아브라함이 하나님을 믿었더니, 그 믿음이 그에게 의로 전가되었더라.” 하고 말하니라. 그런즉 그가 하나님의 친구라고 불렸느니라.

23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24 그렇다면 사람이 행위들로 정당함을 입증받으며 믿음만으로 되지 않는 것을 너희가 보는도다.

24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25 또한 마찬가지로 창녀 라합이 전령들을 받아들였고, 그들을 또 다른 길로 내보냈을 때 그녀가 행위들로 정당함을 입증받지 아니하였느냐?

25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

26 이는 영이 없는 몸이 죽은 것같이 그렇게 행위들이 없는 믿음도 죽은 것이기 때문이라.

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
