사도행전 25장

1 이제 페스투스가 속주에 들어왔을 때 삼 일 뒤에는 그가 카이사랴에서 예루살렘으로 올라갔더라.

1 Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem.

2 그때 대제사장과 유대인들의 우두머리들이 그에게 바울을 대적하여 밀고하였고 그에게 간청하였으며,

2 Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,

3 그가 예루살렘으로 바울을 불러와 주도록 바울을 대적하여 호의를 갈구하였으니 도중에 바울을 죽이려고 숨어 기다리고 있었더라.

3 And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.

4 그러나 페스투스는 바울을 카이사랴에 구금해야하며 그 자신도 속히 거기로 출발할 것이라고 대답하였더라.

4 But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.

5 그가 말하기를, “그러므로 만일 그의 안에 어떤 사악함이 있다면 너희 가운데서 가능한 자들은 나와 함께 내려가서 이 남자를 고소하라.” 하였더라.

5 Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.

6 그리고 그가 십 일 이상을 그들 가운데서 머무른 다음에 그는 카이사랴로 내려갔으며, 다음 날 심판석에 앉아서 명령하여 바울이 인도되게 하였더라.

6 And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.

7 그리하여 그가 나오자 예루살렘에서부터 내려온 유대인들이 주위에 섰고, 바울을 반대하여 심각한 고소거리들을 많이 제기하였으나 그들은 그것들을 입증할 수 없었더라.

7 And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

8 반면에 그는 스스로를 위하여 답변하기를, “저는 유대인들의 율법을 거스르지도 성전을 거스르지도 아니하였으며 나아가 카이사르를 거슬러 일절 어떤 것을 위배한 적이 없나이다.” 하였더라.

8 While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.

9 그러나 페스투스는 유대인들에게 환심을 얻으려는 의향으로 바울에게 대답하여 말하기를, “네가 예루살렘으로 올라가 거기 내 앞에서 이 일들에 관하여 재판을 받고자 하느냐?” 하였더라.

9 But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

10 그때 바울이 이같이 말하였더라. “제가 카이사르의 심판석에 서 있나니, 그곳이 제가 마땅히 재판받을 곳이니이다. 당신께서도 아주 잘 아시다시피 저는 유대인들에게 옳지 않게 행한 적이 전혀 없나이다.

10 Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.

11 만일 제가 어떤 범죄자이거나 죽어 마땅한 어떤 짓을 저질렀다면 저는 죽기를 거부하지 아니하리이다. 그러나 만일 이들이 저를 고소한 이 일들이 아무것도 아니라면 아무도 저를 그들에게 넘겨줄 수 없나이다. 제가 카이사르에게 상소하나이다.”

11 For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.

12 그때 페스투스가 공회와 더불어 의논하고 나서 그가 대답하기를, “네가 카이사르에게 상소하였느냐? 네가 카이사르에게 갈 것이라.” 하였더라.

12 Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar shalt thou go.

13 그러고 나서 며칠 뒤에 아그리파왕과 베르니케가 페스투스에게 문안하러 카이사랴로 왔더라.

13 And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Caesarea to salute Festus.

14 그리고 그들이 많은 날들을 거기에서 보낸 후에 페스투스가 바울의 소송 사건을 왕에게 분명하게 밝히며 이같이 말하였더라. “펠릭스에 의하여 어떤 남자 한 명이 결박들을 당한 채 남아 있나이다.

14 And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:

15 제가 예루살렘에 있었을 때 수석 제사장들과 유대인들의 장로들이 저에게 그에 대하여 밀고하였으며 그를 반대하여 재판을 열어 주기를 간절히 청하였나이다.

15 About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.

16 제가 그들에게 대답하기를, ‘고소당한 자가 고소자들과 얼굴과 얼굴을 마주하고 자신을 거슬러 제기된 범행에 관하여 스스로 해명할 법적 권리를 얻기도 전에 어떤 사람을 죽음에 넘겨주는 것은 로마인들의 방식이 아니라.’ 하였나이다.

16 To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.

17 그러므로 그들이 여기에 왔을 때 어떠한 유예 없이 이튿날 저는 심판석에 앉아서 명령하여 그 남자가 앞으로 인도되게 하였나이다.

17 Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.

18 그를 대적하여 고소자들이 일어나자 그들은 제가 짐작한 것들과 같은 그러한 혐의를 아무것도 내놓지 못하였나이다.

18 Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:

19 다만 그들 고유의 미신에 관하여 그리고 죽었는데 바울이 살아 있다고 주장한 예수라는 이에 관하여 그를 반대하는 어떤 문제들을 가지고 있었나이다.

19 But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

20 그런즉 제가 그와 같은 부류의 문제들에 확신이 서지 않은 까닭에 그가 예루살렘에 가서 이런 사안들에 관하여 재판받을 것인지를 제가 그에게 물었나이다.

20 And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.

21 그러나 바울이 아우구스투스의 공판까지 유보되도록 호소하였기에 저는 제가 그를 카이사르에게 보낼 때까지 그가 구금될 것을 명령하였나이다.”

21 But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.

22 그때 아그리파가 페스투스에게 말하기를, “나 또한 그 사람의 말을 직접 듣고 싶도다.” 하였더라. 그가 말하기를, “내일 당신께서 그의 말을 들으시리이다.” 하였더라.

22 Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.

23 그리하여 이튿날 아그리파와 베르니케가 대단히 화려한 행렬을 대동한 채 총대장들과 도시의 유지들과 함께 공판정 안으로 들어오자 페스투스의 명령으로 바울이 끌려 나왔더라.

23 And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus' commandment Paul was brought forth.

24 그러자 페스투스가 이같이 말하였더라. “아그리파왕이여, 그리고 여기에 우리와 함께 참석하신 모든 여러분들이여, 당신들이 보는 이 남자는 유대인들의 온 무리가 예루살렘에서도 이곳에서도 나에게 해결해달라고 하면서 응당 더 오래 살려 두어서는 안 된다고 외치는 자이옵니다.

24 And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

25 그러나 저는 그가 죽어 마땅한 짓을 전혀 저지르지 아니하였음과 그가 스스로 아우구스투스에게 상소하였음을 발견하자 제가 그를 보내기로 결정하였나이다.

25 But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.

26 그에 관하여 저의 군주께 제가 기록할 만한 확실한 거리가 전혀 없나이다. 이러한 이유로 제가 그를 당신들 앞에 대령하였는데, 오, 아그리파왕이여, 특별히 당신 앞에 대령하였사오니, 심문이 있고 난 뒤에 제가 무언가를 기록할 수 있지 않을까 함이니이다.

26 Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.

27 이는 그에 대하여 제기된 범행들을 전혀 표명하지 않은 채 죄수를 보내는 것이 제게 불합리한 것으로 보이기 때문이니이다.”

27 For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.
