사사기 21장

1 이때 이스라엘 남자들은 이미 미즈페에서 맹세하며 말하기를, “우리 중 누구도 자기 딸을 베냐민에게 아내로 주지 아니하리라.” 하였더라.

1 Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

2 그런즉 백성이 하나님의 집에 왔는데 거기서 저녁때까지 하나님 앞에 머물며 자신들의 목소리들을 높여 심히 울었더라.

2 And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

3 그러면서 말하기를, “오, 이스라엘의 주 하나님, 어찌하여 오늘 이스라엘에서 한 지파가 모자라게 되는 이런 일이 이스라엘에서 벌어지게 되었나이까?” 하였더라.

3 And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

4 그러고 나서 이튿날 이러한 일이 있었으니, 백성이 일찍 일어나서 거기에 제단을 쌓았고 번제물들과 화평 제물들을 바쳤더라.

4 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

5 그러면서 이스라엘 자녀들이 말하기를, “이스라엘의 모든 지파들 가운데 회중과 더불어 주께 올라오지 아니한 자가 누구냐?” 하였더라. 이는 그들이 미즈페로 주께 올라오지 아니한 자에 관하여 대대적으로 하나의 맹세를 하며 말하기를, “그는 반드시 사형에 처해지리라.” 하였기 때문이라.

5 And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

6 그런즉 이스라엘 자녀들이 그들의 형제 베냐민으로 인하여 스스로 후회하며 이같이 말하였더라. “이날에 이스라엘에서 한 지파가 끊어지게 되었도다.

6 And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

7 우리가 우리의 딸들 중에서 그들에게 아내들을 주지 아니하겠다고 주를 두고 스스로 맹세하였으므로 남아 있는 자들을 위한 아내들을 얻기 위해서는 우리가 어떻게 해야겠느냐?”

7 How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?

8 ¶ 그러다가 그들이 말하기를, “이스라엘의 지파들 중에서 어떤 지파가 미즈페로 주께 올라오지 아니하였느냐?” 하였더라. 그런데 보라, 야베시길르앗에서는 집회에 오기 위해 진영으로 온 자가 아무도 없었더라.

8 ¶ And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

9 이는 백성이 계수되었는데, 보라, 거기에 야베시길르앗 거주자들에 속한 자들이 아무도 없었기 때문이라.

9 For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.

10 그러자 회중이 가장 용맹한 일만 이천 명의 남자들을 그리로 보내어 그들에게 명령하며 이같이 말하였더라. “가서 야베시길르앗의 거주자들을 칼날로 치고 여자들과 아이들도 함께 치라.

10 And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

11 그런즉 너희가 할 것은 이것이니, 곧 너희는 모든 남성을 저마다 모조리 멸하고, 남자와 동침한 모든 여자도 저마다 모조리 멸하라.”

11 And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.

12 그리하여 그들이 야베시길르앗의 거주자들 사이에서 사백 명의 젊은 처녀들을 발견하였는데 그들은 어떤 남성과도 동침한 적이 없어서 남자를 전혀 몰랐던 자들이라. 그리하여 그들이 저들을 실로에 있는 진영으로 데려왔으니, 그곳은 가나안 지역 가운데 있느니라.

12 And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

13 그러자 온 회중이 림몬 바위에 있던 베냐민 자녀들에게 이야기하기 위하여 몇 사람을 보내서 그들을 화평하게 불러오게 하였더라.

13 And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.

14 그러자 베냐민이 그때에 맞춰 다시 왔더라. 그러자 회중은 그들이 야베시길르앗에서 살려 둔 여자들을 저들에게 아내들로 주었더라. 그런데도 불구하고 여자들은 그들에게 그리 충분한 수가 아니었더라.

14 And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.

15 그러자 백성이 베냐민으로 인하여 스스로 후회하였더라. 이는 주께서 이스라엘 지파들 가운데 균열을 만드셨기 때문이라.

15 And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

16 그때 회중의 장로들이 말하기를, “우리는 베냐민에서 여자들이 진멸된 것을 알거늘, 남아 있는 자들을 위한 아내들을 얻기 위하여 우리가 어떻게 해야겠느냐?” 하였더라.

16 Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

17 그러면서 그들이 이같이 말하였더라. “이스라엘에서 한 지파가 멸망하지 아니하려면 베냐민에서 탈출한 자들을 위한 유산이 반드시 있어야 하는도다.

17 And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.

18 하지만 우리가 우리의 딸들 중에서는 그들에게 아내들을 줄 수 없노라. 이는 이스라엘 자녀들이 맹세하며 말하기를, ‘베냐민에게 아내를 주는 자는 저주받기를 바라노라.’ 하였기 때문이라.”

18 Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.

19 그때 그들이 말하기를, “보라, 매년 실로에는 주의 명절이 있으니, 실로는 벧엘 북편에 있고, 벧엘부터 셰켐으로 올라가는 대로의 동편에 있으며, 르보나의 남쪽에 있는 장소에 있도다.” 하였더라.

19 Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.

20 그러므로 그들이 베냐민 자녀들에게 명령하며 이같이 말하였더라. “가서 포도원들 안에 숨어 기다리라.

20 Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

21 그리고 주시하여 보라, 만일 실로의 딸들이 춤들을 추며 나오거든, 그때 너희가 포도원들에서 나오라. 그리고 너희 각인은 실로의 딸들 중에서 자기 아내를 낚아채서 베냐민 지역으로 가라.

21 And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

22 그리하면 그들의 아버지들이나 그들의 형제들이 우리에게 원망하러 왔을 때 이러한 일이 일어나리니, 우리가 그들에게 말하기를, ‘우리를 생각해서 그들에게 호의적으로 대하라. 이는 우리가 전쟁에서 각 남자에게 그의 아내를 따로 남겨 두지 못한 까닭이라. 이는 이때에 너희가 그들에게 여인들을 주지 않았기 때문이니, 너희에게 유죄가 되지 아니하리라.’ 하겠노라.”

22 And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

23 그리하여 베냐민 자녀들이 그렇게 하여 그들의 수에 따라 자신들에게 아내들을 취하였으니, 춤추던 자들 중에서 그들이 낚아채 갔더라. 그런 다음에 그들이 가서 그들의 유산으로 되돌아갔고 도시들을 보수하여 그곳들 안에서 거하였더라.

23 And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

24 그러자 그때에 이스라엘 자녀들이 거기서 떠나 모든 남자마다 자기 지파와 자기 가족에게로 향하였으니, 그들이 거기서 나가 모든 남자마다 자기 유산에 이르렀더라.

24 And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.

25 그 당시에는 이스라엘에 왕이 없었으니, 각 사람마다 자기 자신의 두 눈에 옳은 것을 행하였더라.

25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
