여호수아기 10장

1 이제 예루살렘 왕 아도니제덱이 여호수아가 어떻게 아이를 점령하여 그곳을 모조리 멸하였는지와, 그가 예리코와 그녀의 왕에게 행하였던 대로 그가 아이와 그녀의 왕에게 그대로 행하였다는 것과, 기브온의 거주자들이 어떻게 이스라엘과 화친하여 그들 가운데 있었는지를 들었을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니,

1 Now it came to pass, when Adonizedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

2 그들이 대단히 두려워하였더라. 이는 기브온이 왕가의 도시들 중 한 곳으로서 거대한 도시인 까닭이요, 또 그곳이 아이보다 거대하고 그곳의 모든 사람들은 막강하였기 때문이라.

2 That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

3 이러한 이유로 예루살렘 왕 아도니제덱이 헤브론 왕 호함과 야르뭇 왕 피람과 라키시 왕 야피아와 에글론 왕 드빌에게 사람을 보내며 이같이 말하였더라.

3 Wherefore Adonizedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

4 “나에게로 올라와서 나를 도와 우리가 기브온을 칠 수 있게 하라. 이는 기브온이 여호수아와 이스라엘 자녀들과 더불어 화친을 맺었기 때문이라.”

4 Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

5 그러므로 아모리족들의 다섯 왕들, 곧 예루살렘 왕, 헤브론 왕, 야르뭇 왕, 라키시 왕, 에글론 왕이 자기들끼리 함께 모였으니, 그들과 그들의 모든 군대들이 올라가서 기브온 앞에 주둔하였으며 그곳을 대적하여 전쟁을 벌였더라.

5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

6 ¶ 그러자 기브온 사람들이 길갈의 진영으로 여호수아에게 사람을 보내며 말하기를, “당신의 종들에게서 당신의 손을 늦추지 마소서. 속히 저희에게로 올라오시어 저희를 구원하시고 저희를 도우소서. 이는 산들 속에 거하는 아모리족들의 모든 왕들이 저희를 대적하여 함께 모이기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라.

6 ¶ And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

7 그렇게 하여 여호수아가 길갈에서 떠나 올라갔으니, 그가 자신과 함께 전쟁할 모든 백성과 모든 막강한 용사들과 함께하였더라.

7 So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.

8 ¶ 그러자 주께서 여호수아에게 말씀하시기를, “그들을 두려워하지 말라. 이는 내가 그들을 너의 손안에 넘겼기 때문이라. 그들 중 한 사람도 너의 앞에 서지 못하리라.” 하셨느니라.

8 ¶ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

9 그러므로 여호수아가 그들에게 갑자기 임하였으니, 길갈에서 밤새 올라갔더라.

9 Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

10 그리고 주께서 그들을 이스라엘 앞에서 패주시키시고 그들을 기브온에서 커다란 살육으로 살해하셨으니, 벧호론으로 올라가는 길을 따라 그들을 뒤쫓아 아제카에 이르기까지, 또 막케다에 이르기까지 그들을 치셨더라.

10 And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

11 그러자 그들이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망쳐서 벧호론으로 내려가는 동안 이러한 일이 있었으니, 주께서 아제카에 이르기까지 하늘에서 커다란 돌들을 그들 위에 던지시자 그들이 죽었더라. 이스라엘 자녀들이 칼로 살해한 자들보다 우박 덩어리들로 죽은 자들이 더 많았더라.

11 And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

12 ¶ 그때 주께서 아모리족들을 이스라엘 자녀들 앞에서 넘겨주셨던 그 당일에, 여호수아가 주께 고하였으니, 그가 이스라엘의 목전에서 말하기를, “해야, 너는 기브온 위에 가만히 서 있으라. 달아, 너도 아얄론 골짜기 가운데 가만히 서 있으라.” 하였더라.

12 ¶ Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

13 그러자 백성이 그들의 원수들 위에 자신들 스스로 원수를 갚을 때까지 해가 가만히 서 있었고 달이 머물러 있었더라. 이것이 야셸의 책 안에 기록되어 있지 아니하냐? 그렇게 하여 해가 하늘의 한가운데 가만히 서 있었고 거의 하루 종일 서둘러 내려가지 아니하였더라.

13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

14 그런즉 주께서 사람의 음성에 경청하신 그와 같은 날은 그 이전이나 그 이후에도 전혀 없었더라. 이는 주께서 이스라엘을 위하여 싸우셨기 때문이라.

14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

15 ¶ 이후에 여호수아와 그와 함께한 이스라엘 전체가 길갈에 있는 진영으로 되돌아왔더라.

15 ¶ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

16 그러나 이 다섯 왕들은 도망쳐서 막케다에 있는 동굴 속에 자신들을 숨겼더라.

16 But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.

17 그리하여 그것이 여호수아에게 알려지며 말하기를, “막케다에 있는 동굴 속에 그 다섯 왕들이 숨은 것이 발견되었나이다.” 하였더라.

17 And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

18 그리하여 여호수아가 이같이 말하였더라. “동굴 어귀에 커다란 돌들을 굴려 두고 그들을 지키기 위하여 사람들을 그 옆에 배치하라.

18 And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:

19 그런즉 너희는 머물러 있지 말고 오직 너희의 원수들을 추격하여 그들의 후미를 치라. 그들로 하여금 자신들의 도시들 안으로 진입하도록 용납하지 말라. 이는 주 너희 하나님께서 그들을 너희 손안에 넘겨주셨기 때문이라.”

19 And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

20 그러자 그들이 진멸될 때까지 여호수아와 이스라엘 자녀들이 아주 커다란 살육으로 그들을 살해하는 것을 끝마쳤을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들 중 남아 있는 나머지 사람들이 방비가 강화된 도시들 안으로 진입하였더라.

20 And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.

21 그리하여 모든 백성이 막케다에 있는 진영으로 여호수아에게 평안히 되돌아왔더라. 이스라엘 자녀들 중 누군가를 대적하여 자기 혀를 놀리는 자가 아무도 없었더라.

21 And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

22 그때 여호수아가 말하기를, “동굴 어귀를 열고 동굴에서 그 다섯 왕들을 끌어내어 나에게로 데려오라.” 하였더라.

22 Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

23 그러자 그들이 그렇게 하여 동굴에서 그 다섯 왕들, 곧 예루살렘 왕과 헤브론 왕과 야르뭇 왕과 라키시 왕과 에글론 왕을 끌어내어 그에게로 데려왔더라.

23 And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

24 그들이 그 왕들을 여호수아에게로 데려왔을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 여호수아가 이스라엘의 모든 사람들을 불러 자신과 함께 갔던 전사들의 대장들에게 말하기를, “가까이 와서 이 왕들의 목 위에 너희의 발을 올리고 밟으라.” 하였더라. 이에 그들이 가까이 와서 그들의 목 위에 자신들의 발을 올리고 밟았더라.

24 And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

25 이어서 여호수아가 그들에게 말하기를, “두려워하지 말고 좌절하지도 말라. 강건하고 훌륭한 용기를 내라. 이는 주께서 너희가 대적하여 싸우는 너희의 모든 원수들에게 이와 같이 행하실 것이기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

25 And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

26 그러고 난 후에 여호수아가 그들을 쳤고 그들을 살해하였으니, 그들을 다섯 그루의 나무들 위에 매달았더라. 이에 그들이 저녁까지 나무들 위에 매달려 있었더라.

26 And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

27 그러자 해가 지는 시간에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 여호수아가 명령하자 그들이 저들을 나무들에서 내렸고 저들이 숨겨져 있던 동굴 속에 저들을 던졌으며 동굴 어귀에 커다란 돌들을 놓았으니, 그 돌들이 바로 오늘날까지도 남아 있느니라.

27 And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.

28 ¶ 그리하여 그날에 여호수아가 막케다를 점령하였고 칼날로 그곳을 쳤으니, 그가 그곳의 왕과 그들과 그 안에 있던 모든 혼들을 모조리 멸하였더라. 그가 아무도 남기지 아니하였으니, 자신이 예리코 왕에게 행하였던 대로 그가 막케다의 왕에게도 행하였더라.

28 ¶ And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

29 그때 여호수아와 그와 함께한 온 이스라엘이 막케다를 지나 립나에 이르렀고, 립나를 대적하여 싸웠더라.

29 Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

30 그러자 주께서 그곳과 그곳의 왕도 이스라엘의 손안에 넘기셨더라. 그리하여 그가 그곳과 그 안에 있던 모든 혼들을 칼날로 쳤더라. 그가 그 안에 아무도 남아 있지 않게 하였더라. 다만 자신이 예리코 왕에게 행하였던 대로 그곳의 왕에게도 행하였더라.

30 And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

31 ¶ 그러자 여호수아와 그와 함께한 온 이스라엘이 립나를 지나 라키시에 이르러 그곳을 대적하여 주둔하였으니, 그곳을 대적하여 싸웠더라.

31 ¶ And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

32 이에 주께서 라키시를 이스라엘의 손안에 넘기셨으니, 이스라엘이 둘째 날에 그곳을 점령하였고 그가 립나에 행하였던 모든 것대로 그곳과 그 안에 있던 모든 혼들을 칼날로 쳤더라.

32 And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

33 ¶ 그때 게젤 왕 호람이 라키시를 도우려고 올라왔더라. 그리하여 여호수아가 그와 그의 백성을 쳤으니, 결국 그가 그에게 아무도 남기지 아니하였더라.

33 ¶ Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

34 ¶ 그런 다음에 여호수아와 그와 함께한 온 이스라엘이 라키시를 지나 에글론에 이르렀고 그들이 그곳을 대적하여 주둔하였으니, 그곳을 대적하여 싸웠더라.

34 ¶ And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:

35 그리하여 그들이 그날에 그곳을 점령하였고 그곳을 칼날로 쳤으니, 그가 라키시에게 행하였던 모든 것대로 그가 에글론 안에 있던 모든 혼들을 그날 모조리 멸하였더라.

35 And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

36 그런 다음에 여호수아와 그와 함께한 온 이스라엘이 에글론을 지나 헤브론에 이르렀더라. 그런즉 그들이 그곳을 대적하여 싸웠더라.

36 And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

37 그리하여 그들이 그곳을 점령하였고 그곳과 그곳의 왕과 그곳의 모든 도시들과 그 안에 있던 모든 혼들을 칼날로 쳤더라. 그는 자신이 에글론에 행하였던 모든 것대로 아무도 남기지 아니하였더라. 오직 그곳과 그 안에 있던 모든 혼들을 모조리 멸하였더라.

37 And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

38 ¶ 그런 다음에 여호수아와 그와 함께한 온 이스라엘이 드빌로 되돌아가서 그곳을 대적하여 싸웠더라.

38 ¶ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:

39 그리하여 그가 그곳을 점령하였고 그곳의 왕을 붙잡고 그곳의 도시들을 점령하였으니, 그들이 저들을 칼날로 쳐서 그 안에 있던 모든 혼들을 모조리 멸하였더라. 그가 아무도 남기지 아니하였더라. 그가 헤브론에게 행하였던 것같이 그가 드빌에도 그렇게 행하였고 그곳의 왕에게도 그렇게 행하였더라. 그가 또한 립나와 그녀의 왕에게 행하였던 것같이 그렇게 행하였더라.

39 And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

40 ¶ 이처럼 여호수아가 언덕들이 있는 지방과 남쪽 지방과 계곡 지방과 샘들이 있는 지방과 그곳들의 모든 왕들을 모두 쳤더라. 그가 아무도 남기지 아니하였고 다만 호흡하던 모든 것들을 모조리 멸하였으니, 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 명령하신 대로였더라.

40 ¶ So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

41 그런 다음에 여호수아가 카데시바네아에서 가자에 이르기까지 그들을 쳤고, 고셴의 모든 지방을 치되 기브온에 이르기까지 쳤더라.

41 And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

42 그런즉 여호수아가 이 모든 왕들과 그들의 지역을 한 번에 점령하였으니, 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 이스라엘을 위하여 싸우신 까닭이라.

42 And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

43 이후에 여호수아와 그와 함께한 이스라엘 전체가 길갈에 있는 진영으로 되돌아왔더라.

43 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
