여호수아기 7장

1 그러나 이스라엘 자녀들이 저주를 받은 사물로 범법을 저질렀더라. 이는 유다 지파에 속한 제라의 자손이요, 잡디의 자손이요, 칼미의 아들인 아칸이 저주를 받은 사물의 일부를 취하였기 때문이라. 그리하여 주의 분노가 이스라엘 자녀들을 대적하여 타올랐더라.

1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.

2 이후에 여호수아가 예리코에서 벧아웬 옆이자 벧엘의 동편에 있는 아이까지 사람들을 보냈고 그들에게 일러 말하기를, “올라가서 그 지방을 시찰하라.” 하였더라. 이에 그 사람들이 올라가서 아이를 시찰하였더라.

2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east side of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.

3 그런 다음에 그들이 여호수아에게 되돌아와서 그에게 말하기를, “온 백성을 올라가게 하지 마소서. 다만 약 이삼천 명의 남자들이 올라가서 아이를 치게 하소서. 그리하여 온 백성을 거기서 수고하게 하지 마소서. 이는 그들이 소수에 불과하기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라.

3 And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.

4 그렇게 하여 백성 중 약 삼천 명의 남자들이 거기로 올라갔는데 그들이 아이 사람들 앞에서 도망하였더라.

4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.

5 그리고 아이 사람들이 그들 중에서 약 삼십육 명의 남자들을 쳤더라. 이는 저들이 성문 앞에서부터 셰바림에 이르기까지 그들을 뒤쫓아와 내리막에서 그들을 쳤기 때문이라. 이러한 이유로 백성의 마음이 녹아서 물같이 되었더라.

5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

6 ¶ 그러자 여호수아가 자기 옷을 찢고 저녁 무렵까지 주의 법궤 앞에서 자기 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸으니, 곧 그와 이스라엘의 장로들이 그리하였고 자신들의 머리 위에 티끌을 얹었더라.

6 ¶ And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.

7 그리고 여호수아가 이같이 말하였더라. “아, 슬프나이다. 오, 주 하나님이여, 어찌 당신께서는 이 백성을 아예 요르단 너머로 데려오시어 저희를 아모리족들의 손안에 넘기시고 저희를 멸하려 하시나이까? 하나님께서 저희를 요르단의 건너편에서 만족하고 거하게 하셨더라면 좋았으리이다!

7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!

8 오, 주여, 이스라엘이 그들의 원수들 앞에서 자신들의 등을 돌리니, 제가 무슨 말을 하리이까!

8 O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!

9 이는 가나안족들과 그 지역의 모든 거주자들이 그것에 관하여 들을 것이요, 저희의 주위를 에워싸고 저희의 이름을 땅에서 끊을 것이기 때문이니이다. 그리하면 당신께서는 당신의 위대한 이름에 무엇을 하시겠나이까?”

9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?

10 ¶ 그런즉 주께서 여호수아에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너는 일어나라. 어찌 네가 그와 같이 너의 얼굴을 대고 엎드려 있느냐?

10 ¶ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?

11 이스라엘이 죄를 지었으며, 그들이 내가 그들에게 명령한 나의 언약도 위반하였도다. 이는 그들이 심지어 저주받은 것을 취하여 훔치고도 또한 숨겼으며, 그들이 심지어 그것을 자기 자신들의 물품 사이에 두었기 때문이라.

11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

12 그러므로 이스라엘 자녀들이 자신들의 원수들 앞에 설 수 없었고 오히려 그들의 원수들 앞에서 자신들의 등을 돌렸으니, 그들이 저주를 받은 까닭이라. 또한 너희가 그 저주받은 것을 너희 가운데서 멸하지 아니하면 나는 더 이상 너희와 함께 있지 아니하겠노라.

12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

13 일어나서 백성을 성결하게 구별시키고 이같이 말하라. ‘내일을 대비하여 너희 자신을 성결하게 구별하라. 이는 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 이와 같이 말씀하시기 때문이라. 오, 이스라엘아, 너의 한가운데 어떤 저주받은 것이 있도다. 너희가 그 저주받은 것을 너희 가운데서 제거할 때까지 너는 너의 원수들 앞에 설 수 없도다.

13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

14 그러므로 너희는 아침에 너희 지파들에 따라 인도되리라. 그리하면 이러한 일이 일어날지니, 주께서 골라내시는 지파는 그것의 족속들에 따라 나올지니라. 그리고 주께서 골라내시는 족속은 집안들별로 나올지니라. 그리고 주께서 골라내시는 집안은 남자별로 나올지니라.

14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.

15 그리하면 이러한 일이 일어날지니, 저주받은 것과 함께 뽑힌 자는 불에 태워지리니, 그와 그에게 속한 모두가 그리되리라. 이는 그가 주의 언약을 위반하였고 그가 이스라엘 안에서 어리석은 짓을 벌인 까닭이라.’”

15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

16 ¶ 그렇게 하여 여호수아가 아침에 일찍 일어나서 이스라엘을 그들의 지파들별로 데려왔더라. 그러자 유다 지파가 뽑혔더라.

16 ¶ So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

17 그리고 그가 유다 족속을 데려왔더라. 그러자 그분께서 자라족들의 족속을 골라내셨더라. 그리하여 그가 자라족들의 족속을 남자별로 데려왔는데 잡디가 뽑혔더라.

17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:

18 그리고 그가 그의 집안을 남자별로 데려왔더라. 그러자 유다 지파에 속한 제라의 자손이요, 잡디의 자손이요, 칼미의 아들인 아칸이 뽑혔더라.

18 And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

19 이에 여호수아가 아칸에게 말하기를, “내 아들아, 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 이스라엘의 주 하나님께 영광을 돌리고 그분께 자백하라. 그런즉 네가 행한 것을 지금 나에게 알리라. 그것을 나에게서 숨기지 말라.” 하였더라.

19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

20 그러자 아칸이 여호수아에게 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “정녕 제가 이스라엘의 주 하나님을 대적하여 죄를 지었으니, 이러이러하게 제가 행하였나이다.

20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

21 제가 노략품들 사이에서 보기 좋은 바빌론제 의복과 이백 셰켈의 은과 오십 셰켈 무게의 금덩이를 본 그때 제가 그것들을 탐냈으며, 그것들을 취하였나이다. 그런즉 보소서, 그것들이 제 천막 한가운데 있는 땅 속에 숨겨져 있고 은은 그 아래에 있나이다.”

21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

22 ¶ 그렇게 하여 여호수아가 심부름꾼들을 보내었으니, 그들이 그 천막으로 달려갔더라. 그리고 보라, 그것이 그의 천막 안에 숨겨져 있고 은이 그 아래에 있었더라.

22 ¶ So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

23 그리하여 그들이 그것들을 천막 한가운데서 취하여 여호수아와 모든 이스라엘 자녀들에게 그것들을 가져왔으며, 주 앞에서 그것들을 꺼내 놓았더라.

23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.

24 그러자 여호수아는 그와 함께한 온 이스라엘과 더불어 제라의 아들 아칸을 붙잡되 은과 의복과 금덩이와 그의 아들들과 그의 딸들과 그의 소들과 그의 나귀들과 그의 양들과 그의 천막과 그에게 속한 모든 것을 함께 붙잡았더라. 그러고는 그들이 아콜 골짜기로 그것들을 데려갔더라.

24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.

25 그런 다음에 여호수아가 말하기를, “어찌하여 너는 우리를 괴롭게 하였느냐? 주께서 이날 너를 괴롭게 하시리라.” 하였더라. 그러고 나서 온 이스라엘이 그를 돌들로 쳐서 죽였으니, 그들이 저들을 돌들로 쳐서 죽인 뒤에 저들을 불로 태웠더라.

25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

26 그런 다음에 그들이 그의 위에 커다란 돌무더기를 쌓아 올렸으니, 오늘날까지 이르니라. 그렇게 하여 주께서 그분의 분노의 맹렬함에서 돌이키셨더라. 이러한 이유로 그 장소의 이름이 ‘아콜의 골짜기’라 불렸으니, 오늘날까지 이르니라.

26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
