여호수아기 4장

1 그리고 모든 백성이 빠짐없이 요르단을 넘었을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 주께서 여호수아에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

1 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

2 “너희는 백성 중 모든 지파에서 저마다 한 사람씩 열두 명의 남자들을 뽑고,

2 Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

3 너희가 그들에게 명령하며 말하기를, ‘요르단 한가운데인 이곳에서, 곧 제사장들의 발이 굳건하게 섰던 곳에서 너희를 위해 열두 개의 돌들을 취하라. 그리고 너희는 그것들을 너희와 함께 옮겨 와서, 너희가 이 밤에 묵을 야영지에 그것들을 남겨 둘지니라.’ 하라.”

3 And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

4 그때 여호수아가 이스라엘 자녀들 중 모든 지파에서 저마다 한 사람씩 그가 예비한 열두 명의 남자들을 불렀더라.

4 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

5 그리고 여호수아가 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “주 너희 하나님의 법궤 앞에서 요르단 한가운데로 들어가 넘어가라. 그리고 너희는 이스라엘 자녀들의 지파들 수에 따라 너희 각자가 돌 하나씩 자기 어깨 위에 올려 메라.

5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

6 이는 이것으로 하여금 너희 가운데 표적이 되게 하려 함이요, 미래에 너희의 후손들이 그들의 아버지들에게 물으며 말하기를, ‘당신들은 이 돌들을 통하여 무엇을 의미하시나이까?’ 할 때면,

6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

7 그때 너희는 그들에게 대답하기를, ‘요르단의 물들이 주의 언약궤 앞에서 끊어졌느니라. 그것이 요르단을 넘어갈 때 요르단의 물들이 끊어졌느니라. 그런즉 이 돌들은 영원토록 이스라엘 자녀들에게 기념이 되리라.’ 할지니라.”

7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

8 그런즉 이스라엘 자녀들이 여호수아가 명령한 대로 그렇게 행하여 주께서 여호수아에게 이야기하신 대로 이스라엘 자녀들의 지파들의 수에 따라 요르단 한가운데서 열두 개의 돌들을 집어 올렸으니, 그것들을 그들이 묵었던 곳으로 자신들과 함께 옮겨 간 뒤에, 그것들을 거기에 내려놓았더라.

8 And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 그리고 여호수아가 요르단 한가운데서, 곧 언약궤를 짊어진 제사장들의 발이 선 곳에서 열두 개의 돌들을 세워 올렸더라. 그런즉 그것들이 오늘날까지 거기에 있느니라.

9 And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

10 ¶ 이는 주께서 여호수아에게 명령하시어 백성에게 이야기하라고 하신 각각의 모든 것이 모세가 여호수아에게 명령한 모든 것대로 마무리될 때까지 법궤를 짊어진 제사장들이 요르단 한가운데 서 있었기 때문이라. 그런즉 백성은 서둘러 넘어갔더라.

10 ¶ For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

11 그러고 나서 모든 백성이 빠짐없이 넘어갔을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 백성의 면전에서 주의 법궤와 제사장들이 넘어갔더라.

11 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12 그리고 르우벤 자녀들과 갓 자녀들과 므낫세 반 지파는 모세가 그들에게 이야기한 대로 무장된 채 이스라엘 자녀들 앞에 넘어갔더라.

12 And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

13 전쟁을 위하여 예비된 약 사만 명이 전투하러 주 앞에서 넘어가 예리코의 평야들에 이르렀더라.

13 About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14 ¶ 그날에 주께서 온 이스라엘의 목전에서 여호수아를 드높이셨더라. 그런즉 그들이 그의 생애의 모든 날들 동안 자신들이 모세를 두려워하였듯이 그를 두려워하였더라.

14 ¶ On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 이윽고 주께서 여호수아에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

15 And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

16 “증언의 법궤를 짊어지는 제사장들에게 명령하여 그들이 요르단에서 올라오게 하라.”

16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

17 그러므로 여호수아가 제사장들에게 명령하며 말하기를, “너희는 요르단에서 올라오라.” 하였더라.

17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.

18 그러자 주의 언약궤를 짊어진 제사장들이 요르단 한가운데서 올라오고 제사장들의 발바닥이 마른 육지를 향하여 들어 올려졌을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 요르단의 물들이 그것들의 위치로 되돌아왔고 그것들이 이전에 그러하였던 것처럼 그의 모든 둑들 위로 흘러 넘쳤더라.

18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

19 ¶ 그리하여 백성이 첫째 달 십 일에 요르단에서 올라왔고 예리코의 동쪽 경계에 있는 길갈에 주둔하였더라.

19 ¶ And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

20 그리고 그들이 요르단에서 취한 그 열두 개의 돌들을 여호수아가 길갈에 세워 놓았더라.

20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

21 그런 다음에 그가 이스라엘 자녀들에게 이같이 일러 말하였더라. “미래에 너희 자녀들이 자신들의 아버지들에게 물으며 말하기를, ‘이 돌들이 무엇을 의미하나이까?’ 할 때면,

21 And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

22 그때 너희는 너희 자녀들에게 알려 주며 이같이 말할지니라. ‘이스라엘이 마른 육지 위로 이 요르단을 넘어왔느니라.

22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23 이는 주 너희 하나님께서 우리가 건너갈 때까지 우리 앞에서 친히 말려 버리셨던 홍해에 행하셨던 것처럼, 주 너희 하나님께서 요르단의 물들을 너희가 넘어갈 때까지 너희 앞에서 말려 버리셨기 때문이니,

23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

24 땅의 모든 백성들이 주의 막강한 손을 알게 하려 함이요, 너희가 주 너희 하나님을 영원토록 두려워하게 하려 함이라.’”

24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
