사무엘기상 24장

1 그리고 사울이 필리스티아인들을 따르는 것을 그치고 되돌아갔을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그에게 이러한 말이 알려지기를, “보소서, 다윗이 엔게디 광야 가운데 있나이다.” 하였더라.

1 And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.

2 그때 사울이 온 이스라엘에서 삼천 명의 선정된 남자들을 대동하여 야생 염소들의 바위들 위로 다윗과 그의 사람들을 찾으러 갔더라.

2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

3 그러다가 그가 길가에 있는, 양을 기르는 우리들에 이르렀는데 거기에는 한 동굴이 있었더라. 그런즉 사울이 자기 발들을 덮으려고 안으로 들어갔더라. 그런데 다윗과 그의 사람들이 동굴의 측면들에 남아 있었더라.

3 And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.

4 그런즉 다윗의 사람들이 그에게 말하기를, “주께서 당신께 말씀하시기를, ‘보라, 내가 너의 원수를 너의 손안에 넘기겠으니, 너는 네가 보기에 좋은 대로 그에게 행하라.’ 하신 그날을 보소서.” 하였더라. 그때 다윗이 일어나 사울의 관복의 옷자락을 몰래 베어 내었더라.

4 And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

5 그러고 난 후에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 자신이 사울의 옷자락을 베어 낸 것으로 인하여 다윗의 마음이 그를 가책하였더라.

5 And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

6 그런즉 그가 자기 사람들에게 말하기를, “나의 주인이 주의 기름 부음 받은 자임을 알면서 내가 주의 기름 부음 받은 자를 대적하여 내 손을 앞으로 뻗어 그에게 이런 짓을 하는 것을 주께서 금하시기를 바라노라.” 하였더라.

6 And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

7 그렇게 하여 다윗이 이런 말들로 자기 종들을 만류하여 그들이 사울을 대적하여 일어나는 것을 용납하지 아니하였더라. 반면에 사울은 동굴에서 일어나 자기 길을 갔더라.

7 So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

8 다윗 또한 그 뒤에 일어나 동굴에서 나가서 사울을 향하여 부르짖으며 말하기를, “내 주 왕이여.” 하였더라. 그러자 사울이 자기 뒤를 바라보았는데 다윗이 자기 얼굴을 땅에 대고 굽히며 자신의 몸을 숙여 절하였더라.

8 David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

9 ¶ 그러면서 다윗이 사울에게 이같이 말하였더라. “어찌 당신께서는 ‘보소서, 다윗이 당신께 해를 입히는 것을 모색하나이다.’라고 말하는 사람들의 말들을 들으시나이까?

9 ¶ And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

10 보소서, 오늘 동굴 안에서 주께서 당신을 제 손안에 넘기신 것을 이날에 당신의 두 눈이 보았나이다. 그런즉 몇몇이 나에게 당신을 죽이라고 권하였으나 제 눈이 당신을 아끼어 제가 말하기를, ‘나는 나의 주를 대적하여 나의 손을 내밀지 아니하겠노라. 이는 그가 주의 기름 부음 받은 자이기 때문이라.’ 하였나이다.

10 Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD'S anointed.

11 이뿐만 아니라 나의 아버지여, 보소서, 진정 나의 손에 있는 당신의 관복의 옷자락을 살피소서. 이는 제가 당신의 관복의 옷자락을 베어 냈으나 당신을 죽이지 아니하였기 때문이니, 당신은 제 손안에 악도 없고 불법도 없는 것과 제가 당신을 대적하여 죄를 짓지 아니하였다는 것을 보고 아소서. 그럼에도 당신은 제 혼을 빼앗고자 그것을 사냥하고 계시나이다.

11 Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.

12 주께서 저와 당신 사이에서 판단하시며, 주께서 당신께 저의 복수를 하시기를 바라나이다. 그러나 제 손이 당신 위에 임하지 아니하리이다.

12 The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

13 먼 옛날 사람들의 잠언이 말한 것과 같으니, ‘사악함은 사악한 자에게서 나온다.’ 한 것이니이다. 그러나 제 손이 당신 위에 임하지 아니하리이다.

13 As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

14 이스라엘 왕이 누구를 쫓아 나오셨나이까? 당신께서 누구를 추격하고 계시나이까? 죽은 개를 쫓고 계시니, 곧 벼룩을 쫓고 계시나이다.

14 After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

15 그러므로 주께서 심판자가 되시어 저와 당신 사이를 판단하시고 살펴보시어 저의 송사를 변호하시고 저를 당신의 손에서 구출하시기를 바라나이다.”

15 The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

16 ¶ 그런즉 다윗이 사울에게 이런 말들을 고하는 것을 끝마쳤을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 사울이 말하기를, “나의 아들 다윗아, 이것이 너의 목소리냐?” 하였더라. 그러면서 사울이 자기 목소리를 높여 울었더라.

16 ¶ And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

17 그러고는 그가 다윗에게 이같이 말하였더라. “네가 나보다 더 의롭도다. 이는 내가 너에게 악으로 갚았으나 너는 나에게 선으로 갚았기 때문이라.

17 And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.

18 그리고 주께서 나를 너의 손안에 넘겨주셨을 때 네가 나를 죽이지 아니하였으니, 너는 이날에 네가 나를 선대하였다는 것을 보여주었도다.

18 And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.

19 그런즉 만일 어떤 사람이 자기 원수를 발견한다면 그가 그 원수를 무사히 가게 하겠느냐? 이러한 이유로 주께서 네가 이날 나에게 행한 것을 너에게 선으로 보상하시기를 바라노라.

19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.

20 그리고 이제 보라, 나는 네가 반드시 왕이 될 것과 이스라엘의 왕국이 너의 손안에서 확고히 세워질 것을 잘 아노라.

20 And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.

21 그러므로 이제 네가 나의 뒤를 잇는 나의 씨를 끊어 버리지 아니할 것과 네가 나의 이름을 나의 아버지의 집에서 멸하지 아니할 것을 주를 두고 나에게 맹세하라.”

21 Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

22 그러자 다윗이 사울에게 맹세하였더라. 그러고 나서 사울은 집으로 갔고 다윗과 그의 사람들은 요새로 올라갔더라.

22 And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
