예레미야서 2장

1 이와 더불어 주의 말씀이 나에게 임하여 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.

1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2 “가서 예루살렘의 귀들에다 소리치며 이같이 말하라. 주가 이같이 말하노라. 내가 너를, 곧 너의 젊은 시절의 친절과 너의 정혼 기간의 사랑을 기억하노니, 씨가 뿌려지지 아니한 지역인 광야 가운데로 네가 나를 따라 들어갔을 때라.

2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

3 이스라엘은 주께 거룩함이었고 그의 소산의 첫 열매들이었도다. 그를 집어삼키는 자는 모두 실족하리라. 해악이 그들 위에 임하리라. 주가 말하노라.

3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

4 오, 야곱의 집이자 이스라엘 집의 모든 족속들아, 너희는 주의 말을 들으라.

4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

5 ¶ 주가 이같이 말하노라. 너희 조상들이 내 안에서 무슨 죄악을 발견하였기에 그들은 나를 멀리 떠나 헛된 것을 따라 살아가서 헛되게 되었느냐?

5 ¶ Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

6 또한 그들은 ‘주께서 어디에 계시는가? 그분은 우리를 이집트 지역에서 데리고 올라오셨고, 광야와, 사막들과 구렁들의 지역과, 가뭄의 지역과, 사망의 그림자의 지역과, 아무도 통과하지 아니하는 지역과, 아무도 거하지 아니하는 지역을 통과하도록 우리를 이끄신 분이로다.’ 하고 말하지 아니하였도다.

6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

7 그런즉 내가 너희를 한 풍요로운 나라로 데리고 들어와서 그곳의 열매와 그곳의 양분을 먹게 하였도다. 그러나 너희가 들어왔을 때 너희는 나의 토지를 더럽혔고 나의 상속지를 하나의 가증함으로 만들었도다.

7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

8 제사장들은 ‘주께서 어디에 계시는가?’ 하고 말하지 아니하였고, 율법을 다루는 자들은 나를 몰랐도다. 목양자들도 나를 대적하여 불법을 행하였고 예언자들은 바알을 힘입어 예언하였으며 유익을 주지 못하는 것들을 따라 살아갔도다.

8 The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

9 ¶ 이러한 이유로 내가 여전히 너희와 변론하겠고, 너희 자녀들의 자녀들과도 변론하겠노라. 주가 말하노라.

9 ¶ Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.

10 그러므로 킷팀의 섬들로 넘어가서 보라. 그리하여 케달에 사람을 보내서 부지런히 숙고하고 이러한 일이 있는지 살펴보라.

10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

11 어떤 민족이 그들의 신들을 바꾼 적이 있느냐? 더구나 그것들은 전혀 신들이 아님에도 그리하지 아니하였느니라. 그러나 나의 백성은 유익을 주지 못하는 것과 자신들의 영광을 바꾸었도다.

11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

12 오, 너희, 하늘들아, 이 일에 경악하고 진저리 치게 무서워하라. 너희는 몹시 황량해질지니라. 주가 말하노라.

12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

13 이는 나의 백성이 두 가지 악을 저질렀기 때문이니, 그들이 살아 있는 물들의 원천인 나를 저버린 것이요, 자신들에게 저수조들을 파 둔 것이니, 깨져서 물을 전혀 저장할 수 없는 저수조들이라.

13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

14 ¶ 이스라엘이 종이냐? 그가 본토 태생의 종속 노예냐? 어찌하여 그가 약탈을 당하였느냐?

14 ¶ Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

15 젊은 사자들이 그의 위에서 포효하고 아우성쳤으니, 그들이 그의 지역을 불모지로 만들었도다. 그의 도시들이 불에 타서 거주자가 없게 되었도다.

15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

16 또한 놉흐와 타하파네스의 후손들이 너의 정수리를 부수었도다.

16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.

17 그가 너를 그 길로 이끌었을 때 네가 주 너의 하나님을 저버림으로써 네가 이것을 너 자신에게 자초한 것이 아니냐?

17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?

18 그런데 이제 네가 이집트의 길에서 시홀의 물을 마시려면 무엇을 해야겠느냐? 또는 네가 아시리아의 길에서 그 강의 물들을 마시려면 무엇을 해야겠느냐?

18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

19 너 자신의 사악함이 너를 바로잡을 것이요, 너의 타락들이 너를 책망하리라. 그러므로 네가 주 너의 하나님을 저버린 것과, 나를 두려워함이 너의 안에 없는 것은 한 가지 악하고 쓰라린 것임을 알고 주의하라. 만군의 주 하나님이 말하노라.

19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

20 ¶ 이는 옛적에 내가 너의 멍에를 부수었고 너의 결박들을 터뜨렸기 때문이라. 그렇기에 너는 말하기를, ‘제가 불법을 행하지 아니하겠나이다.’ 하였도다. 네가 모든 높은 언덕 위와 모든 푸른 나무 아래마다 배회할 때 창녀 짓을 하면서 그리하였도다.

20 ¶ For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

21 그렇지만 나는 너를 고귀한 포도나무요, 온전히 올바른 씨로 심었었도다. 그럴진대 어떻게 너는 나에게 타국 포도나무에 속하는 퇴행한 초목으로 변하였느냐?

21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

22 이는 네가 초석으로 너를 씻고 너에게 많은 비누를 쓴다 해도 너의 죄악은 여전히 내 앞에 표시되어 있기 때문이라. 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라.

22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

23 어떻게 네가 말하기를, ‘나는 오염되지 아니하였고 나는 바알들을 따라가지 아니하였노라.’ 할 수 있느냐? 골짜기 속 너의 길을 보라. 네가 행한 바를 알라. 너는 그녀 자신의 길들을 횡단하는 빠른 단봉낙타로다.

23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

24 너는 광야에 익숙한 야생 나귀니, 곧 그녀의 쾌락이 발동하여 킁킁거리며 바람 냄새를 맡는 나귀로다. 그녀의 경우, 누가 그녀를 돌이킬 수 있겠느냐? 그녀를 찾는 모든 자들은 스스로를 지치게 하지 아니하리니, 그들은 그녀의 달에 그녀를 발견하리라.

24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

25 신발이 벗겨진 발이 되지 아니하도록 너의 발을 사리고, 목마르게 되지 아니하도록 너의 목구멍을 사리라. 그러나 너는 말하기를, ‘소망이 없으니, 없도다. 내가 타국인들을 사랑하였기에 나는 그들을 따라가겠노라.’ 하였도다.

25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

26 마치 도둑이 발각되었을 때 그가 부끄러워하듯이 그렇게 이스라엘 집도 부끄러워하리라. 곧, 그들과 그들의 왕들과 그들의 통치자들과 그들의 제사장들과 그들의 예언자들이

26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

27 통나무에 대고 말하기를, ‘당신께서는 나의 아버지시니이다.’ 하고, 돌에 대고 말하기를, ‘당신께서는 저를 생성하셨나이다.’ 하므로 부끄러워하리라. 이는 그들이 자신들의 등을 나에게로 돌리고 자신들의 얼굴은 돌리지 아니하였기 때문이라. 그러나 그들은 자신들의 곤경의 때에 말하기를, ‘일어나시어 우리를 구원하소서.’ 하리라.

27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

28 그러나 너희가 자신을 위하여 만든 너의 신들이 어디에 있느냐? 만일 그것들이 너의 곤경의 때에 너를 구원할 수 있다면 그것들을 일어나게 하라. 오, 유다야, 이는 너의 신들이 너의 도시들의 수대로 있기 때문이라.

28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

29 어찌 너희가 나에게 항변하려 하느냐? 너희 모두는 나를 대적하여 불법을 행하였도다. 주가 말하노라.

29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

30 내가 헛되이 너희 자녀들을 쳤도다. 그들이 바로잡음을 전혀 받아들이지 아니하였도다. 멸망시키는 사자처럼, 너희 자신의 칼이 너희의 예언자들을 집어삼켰도다.

30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

31 ¶ 오, 세대여, 너희는 주의 말을 주시하라. 내가 이스라엘에게 광야가 된 적이 있느냐? 어둠의 지역이 된 적이 있느냐? 어찌 나의 백성이 말하기를, ‘우리는 주들이니이다. 우리가 더 이상 당신께 오지 아니하겠나이다.’ 하느냐?

31 ¶ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

32 여인이 그녀의 장식들을 잊거나 신부가 그녀의 차림새를 잊을 수 있느냐? 그럼에도 나의 백성은 수도 없는 날들 동안 나를 잊었도다.

32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

33 어찌하여 너는 사랑을 찾아서 너의 길을 다듬느냐? 그러므로 너는 사악한 이들에게도 너의 길들을 가르쳐 주었도다.

33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

34 또한 가난하고 무고한 자들의 혼들의 피가 너의 옷자락들에서 발견되었도다. 내가 그것을 은밀히 수색하여 발견한 것이 아니니, 오히려 이 모든 것들 위에서 발견하였도다.

34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

35 그럼에도 너는 말하기를, ‘내가 무고하므로 반드시 그분의 분노가 나에게서 돌아서리라.’ 하는도다. 보라, 내가 너와 변론하겠으니, 네가 ‘나는 죄를 짓지 아니하였도다.’ 하고 말하기 때문이라.

35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

36 어찌하여 너는 너의 길을 몇 번이나 바꾸며 나돌아 다니느냐? 네가 아시리아로 인하여 부끄러워한 것같이 이집트로 인하여도 네가 부끄러워하리라.

36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

37 진정 너는 너의 두 손을 너의 머리 위에 올린 채 그를 떠나가리라. 이는 주가 네가 신뢰하는 자들을 거절하였고 네가 그들 안에서 형통하지 못할 것이기 때문이라.

37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.
