욥기 31장

1 내가 나의 두 눈과 언약을 맺었도다. 그런즉 내가 어찌하여 여인을 생각하랴?

1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

2 그러므로 위로부터 주신 하나님의 몫이 무엇이냐? 또 높은 데서 주신 전능하신 분의 유산이 무엇이냐?

2 For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

3 사악한 자에게는 멸망이 아니냐? 또 죄악의 일꾼들에게는 낯선 형벌이 아니냐?

3 Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

4 그분께서 나의 길들을 보지 아니하시며, 나의 모든 걸음들을 세지 아니하시냐?

4 Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

5 만일 내가 헛된 것과 동행하였거나 혹 나의 발이 속이려고 서둘렀다면

5 If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

6 하나님께서 나의 온전함을 아실 수 있도록 나로 하여금 정확한 저울에 달리게 하라.

6 Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

7 만일 나의 걸음이 길에서 돌이키고 나의 마음이 나의 두 눈을 좇아 살아간다면, 그리하여 나의 두 손에 어떤 오점이 달라붙었다면

7 If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

8 그때는 나로 하여금 뿌리게 하고 다른 이로 하여금 먹게 하라. 진정 나의 후예가 뿌리 뽑힐지어다.

8 Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

9 만일 내 마음이 여자에 의하여 속았거나 혹 내가 나의 이웃의 문에서 숨어 기다렸다면,

9 If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

10 그때는 나의 아내로 하여금 다른 이를 위해 맷돌질을 하게 하고 다른 이들로 하여금 그녀 위에 엎드리게 하라.

10 Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

11 이는 이것이 악질적인 범행이요, 진정 그것이 판관들에 의하여 처벌받아야 하는 죄악이기 때문이라.

11 For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

12 이는 그것이 멸망에 이르도록 사르는 불이요, 나의 모든 소산을 뿌리 뽑을 것이기 때문이라.

12 For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

13 만일 내가 나의 남종이나 나의 여종이 나와 쟁론하였을 때 그들의 송사를 멸시하였다면

13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

14 그렇다면 하나님께서 일어나실 때 내가 무엇을 하겠느냐? 또 그분께서 감찰하실 때 내가 그분께 무슨 대답을 하겠느냐?

14 What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

15 나를 태에서 만드신 분께서 그를 만들지는 아니하셨느냐? 또 한 분께서 우리를 태 속에서 빚지 아니하셨느냐?

15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

16 만일 내가 가난한 자들에게 그들의 갈망하는 것을 주지 않았거나 과부의 두 눈을 실망시켰다면,

16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

17 또는 나의 먹을 것을 나 홀로 먹고 아버지 없는 자를 그것으로 먹이지 아니하였다면

17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

18 (이는 그가 나의 젊은 시절부터 내 곁에서 육성되었으니, 아버지 곁에 있는 자 같았고 나는 나의 어머니의 태에서부터 그녀를 안내하였기 때문이라.)

18 (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

19 만일 옷이 없어 어떤 자가 죽거나, 덮을 것이 없어 어떤 가난한 자가 죽는 것를 보았다면,

19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

20 혹 그의 허리가 나를 축복하지 아니하였다면, 또 그가 나의 양에서 나온 양털 뭉치로 따뜻해지지 아니하였다면,

20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

21 혹 내가 성문 안에 나의 도움이 있는 것을 보았을 때 내가 아버지 없는 자를 대적하여 나의 손을 들어 올렸다면

21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

22 그때는 나의 팔이 나의 어깨뼈에서 떨어지고 나의 팔이 뼈에서부터 떨어져 부러질지어다.

22 Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

23 이는 하나님께로부터 오는 멸망이 나에게 공포였으며, 그분의 높으심으로 인하여 내가 견딜 수 없었기 때문이라.

23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

24 만일 내가 금을 나의 소망으로 삼았거나 정금에게 말하기를, ‘너는 나의 자신감이라.’ 하였다면,

24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

25 혹 나의 부가 창대한 까닭에, 또 나의 손이 많은 것을 거머쥔 까닭에 크게 기뻐하였다면,

25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

26 혹 내가 해가 빛날 때 그것을 보았거나 광명 속에서 거니는 달을 보았다면

26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

27 그리하여 나의 마음이 남모르게 유혹되었거나 나의 입이 나의 손에 입을 맞추었다면

27 And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

28 이것 역시 판관에 의하여 처벌받아야 하는 죄악이었으리라. 이는 내가 위에 계신 하나님을 부인했었을 것이기 때문이라.

28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

29 만일 내가 나를 증오한 자의 멸망을 크게 기뻐하였거나, 불행이 그를 발견하였을 때 나 자신을 치켜세웠다면 그리하였으리니,

29 If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

30 마찬가지로 나는 나의 입이 그의 혼에게 저주를 염원하여 죄를 짓는 것을 용납하지 아니하였도다.

30 Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

31 나의 장막에 속한 사람들이 ‘오, 우리가 그의 살을 먹는다면 얼마나 좋을까! 우리가 만족할 수 없도다.’라고 말하지 않았다면 그리하였느니라.

31 If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

32 타국인이 거리에서 묵지 아니하였으니, 오히려 내가 나의 문들을 여행자들에게 열어 주었도다.

32 The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

33 만일 내가 나의 죄악을 나의 품속에 숨김으로써 나의 불법을 아담같이 덮었다면 그리하였으리라.

33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

34 내가 수많은 무리를 두려워하였느냐? 아니면 가족들로부터 오는 업신여김이 나를 공포스럽게 하였기에 내가 잠잠한 채 문밖으로 나가지 아니하였느냐?

34 Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

35 오, 누군가 나의 말을 듣는다면 얼마나 좋을까! 나의 희망 사항은 전능하신 분께서 나에게 대답하시는 것이요, 나의 대적이 책을 기록했으면 하는 것이라.

35 Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

36 반드시 나는 그것을 나의 어깨 위에 메고 그것을 나에게 왕관처럼 매달리라.

36 Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

37 나는 그에게 나의 걸음들의 수를 분명히 밝히리라. 통치자처럼 나는 그에게 가까이 가리라.

37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

38 만일 나의 토지가 나를 대적하여 부르짖거나 마찬가지로 고랑들이 그것의 불평을 외친다면

38 If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

39 혹 내가 그것의 결실들을 돈 없이 먹었거나 그것의 소유자들로 하여금 그들의 생명을 잃게 만들었다면

39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

40 밀 대신에 엉겅퀴들이, 보리 대신에 잡초가 자랄지어다.” 욥의 말들이 끝났더라.

40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
