욥기 41장

1 너는 낚싯바늘로 리바이어던을 끌어낼 수 있겠느냐? 아니면 네가 늘어뜨리는 끈으로 그의 혀를 끌어낼 수 있겠느냐?

1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

2 너는 낚싯바늘을 그의 콧속에 걸 수 있겠느냐? 아니면 가시로 그의 턱을 꿸 수 있겠느냐?

2 Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

3 그가 너에게 많은 간구들을 하겠느냐? 그가 너에게 부드러운 말들로 이야기하겠느냐?

3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

4 그가 너와 언약을 맺겠느냐? 네가 그를 종으로 영원토록 취하겠느냐?

4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

5 네가 새와 놀듯이 그와 놀겠느냐? 아니면 네가 너의 시녀들을 위하여 그를 결박하겠느냐?

5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

6 벗들이 그를 가지고 연회를 벌이겠느냐? 그들이 상인들 사이에서 그를 나누겠느냐?

6 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

7 너는 그의 가죽을 미늘쇠들로 가득 채울 수 있겠느냐? 아니면 그의 머리를 작살들로 가득 채울 수 있겠느냐?

7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

8 너의 손을 그의 위에 올려 전투에 대해서 사색해 보고는 다시는 그리하지 말라.

8 Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.

9 보라, 그에 대한 소망은 헛되니라. 누군가 그를 보기만 하여도 기가 꺾이지 아니하랴?

9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

10 그를 감히 격동시킬 만큼 그렇게 사나운 자는 아무도 없느니라. 그렇다면 누가 내 앞에 능히 설 수 있겠느냐?

10 None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

11 누가 나보다 앞섰기에 내가 그에게 되갚아야 하겠느냐? 온 하늘 아래 있는 것은 무엇이나 내 것이라.

11 Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

12 나는 그의 부위들도, 그의 능력도, 그의 준수한 균형비도 감추지 아니하겠노라.

12 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

13 누가 그의 외피를 벗길 수 있겠느냐? 아니면 누가 그의 두 겹 굴레를 들고 그에게 이를 수 있겠느냐?

13 Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?

14 누가 그의 얼굴의 문들을 열 수 있겠느냐? 그의 이빨들은 공포스럽게 빙 둘러 있느니라.

14 Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

15 그의 비늘들은 그의 교만이라, 밀폐된 봉인같이 함께 닫혀 있느니라.

15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.

16 한 비늘이 다른 비늘과 매우 가까이 있기에 그것들 사이로 공기도 통하지 아니하느니라.

16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

17 그것들이 서로 결합되어 있느니라. 그것들이 함께 들러붙어 있어서 그것들은 떼어질 수 없느니라.

17 They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

18 그의 재채기들에 의하여 빛이 반짝이고 그의 눈들은 아침의 눈꺼풀들과 같도다.

18 By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

19 그의 입에서 타는 등불들이 나가고 불티들이 튀어나오는도다.

19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

20 그의 콧구멍에서 연기가 나가나니, 끓는 냄비나 가마솥에서 나가는 것과 같도다.

20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

21 그의 호흡은 숯불들을 타오르게 하고 불꽃이 그의 입에서 나가는도다.

21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

22 그의 목에는 힘이 남아 있고 그의 앞에서는 슬픔이 즐거움으로 바뀌느니라.

22 In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

23 그의 살의 얇은 조각들은 함께 결합되어 있느니라. 그것들은 자기들끼리 굳건하게 되어 있나니, 그것들이 움직여질 수 없느니라.

23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.

24 그의 심장은 돌처럼 단단하니라. 진정 연자 맷돌 하부 한 짝같이 딱딱하니라.

24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.

25 그가 직접 일어날 때 막강한 자들도 무서워하는도다. 깨뜨리는 일들로 인하여 그들이 자신을 정화하는도다.

25 When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

26 그에게 갖다 대는 자의 칼은 버틸 수 없느니라. 창도, 투창도, 사슬갑옷도 그러하니라.

26 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

27 그는 철을 지푸라기같이, 놋을 썩은 목재같이 여기느니라.

27 He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.

28 화살은 그를 도망하게 할 수 없느니라. 무릿매 돌들도 그의 곁에서는 그루터기로 변하느니라.

28 The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

29 투창들은 그루터기로 여겨지느니라. 창을 흔드는 것도 그가 비웃는도다.

29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

30 날카로운 돌들이 그의 아래에 있도다. 그가 진창 위에서 끝이 뾰족한 것들을 펴는도다.

30 Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

31 그가 깊음을 냄비처럼 끓게 만드는도다. 그가 바다를 향유가 든 항아리처럼 만드는도다.

31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

32 그가 자기 뒤에 행로를 빛나게 만드나니, 누군가 깊음을 백색이라고 생각할 것이라.

32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

33 땅 위에는 그와 같은 것이 없나니, 그는 두려움 없이 지음을 받았느니라.

33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

34 그는 모든 높은 것들을 바라보느니라. 그는 모든 교만의 자식들을 다스리는 왕이라.”

34 He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
