1 바울과 실바누스¹와 디모데우스²는, 하나님 아버지 안에 있으며 주 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 데살로니가인들의 교회에 편지하노라. 우리 아버지이신 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도로부터 은혜와 평안이 너희에게 있기를 기원하노라.

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 우리가 우리의 기도들에 너희를 언급하며 너희 모두로 인하여 항상 하나님께 감사들을 드리노니,

2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;

3 우리 주 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 너희 믿음의 행위와 사랑의 수고와 소망의 인내를 하나님이신 우리 아버지의 목전에서 끊임없이 기억하고 있기 때문이라.

3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

4 사랑받는 형제들아, 하나님께서 너희를 택하신 것을 우리가 알고 있느니라.

4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

5 이는 우리의 복음이 너희에게 말로만이 아니라 권능과 성령님과 큰 확신 가운데 이르렀기 때문이라. 우리가 너희를 위하여 너희 가운데서 어떤 방식의 사람들이었는지는 너희가 알고 있는 대로니라.

5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

6 그리고 너희는 성령님의 즐거움을 가지고 큰 고난 속에서 말씀을 받아들여 우리와 주를 따르는 자들이 되었노라.

6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

7 그렇게 하여 너희는 마케도니아와 아카이아에서 믿는 모든 자들에게 본보기들이 되었느니라.

7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

8 이는 주의 말씀이 너희로부터 나와 마케도니아와 아카이아에 울려 퍼졌을 뿐만 아니라, 하나님을 향한 너희의 믿음이 모든 곳에서도 저마다 널리 퍼져 나가므로 우리는 어떤 것도 언급할 필요가 없기 때문이라.

8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

9 이는 그들 스스로 우리에 관하여 보여 주기 때문이니, 곧 우리가 어떤 방식으로 너희에게 들어갔는지, 어떻게 너희가 우상들로부터 하나님께로 돌이켜 살아 계신 참 하나님을 섬기며

9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

10 하늘로부터 오실 그분의 아들을 기다리는지 보여 주느니라. 그분은 죽은 자들로부터 살아나신 분, 바로 예수님이시요, 다가올 진노로부터 우리를 구해내신 분이시라.

10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
