1 시작부터 계셨던 그것, 곧 우리가 들었고 우리가 우리의 눈으로 목격하였으며 우리가 눈여겨보았고 우리의 손이 만져 보았던 생명의 말씀에 관해서라.
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (이는 그 생명이 명백하게 나타났고 우리가 그것을 목격하였기 때문이니, 아버지와 함께 있었고 우리에게 명백하게 나타나게 된 그 영생을 너희에게 증거하며 제시하느니라.)
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 우리는 우리가 목격하고 들은 그것을 너희에게 선언하노니, 너희 역시도 우리와 함께 교제를 나누게 하려 함이라. 그리고 참으로 우리의 교제는 아버지와 함께하는 것이며, 그분의 아들 예수 그리스도와 함께하는 것이라.
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 그리고 이런 것들을 우리가 너희에게 기록하는 것은 너희의 즐거움이 충만하게 하려 함이라.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 그런즉 우리가 그분에 관하여 듣고 너희에게 선언하는 전언이 이것이니, 곧 하나님께서는 빛이시요, 그분 안에는 어둠이 전혀 없다는 것이라.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 만일 우리 자신이 그분과 교제가 있다고 말하면서 어둠 가운데 살아간다면 우리는 거짓말하는 것이며 진리를 행하는 것이 아니니라.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 그러나 만일 우리가 그분께서 빛 가운데 계신 것같이 빛 가운데 살아간다면 우리가 서로 간에 교제가 있는 것이며 그분의 아들이신 예수 그리스도의 피가 우리를 모든 죄에서 정결하게 하시느니라.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 만일 우리가 자신에게 아무 죄도 없다고 말한다면 우리는 스스로를 속이는 것이요, 진리가 우리 안에 있지 아니하느니라.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 만일 우리가 우리의 죄들을 자백한다면 그분께서는 신실하시고 정의로우셔서 우리에게서 우리의 죄들을 용서하시고 모든 불의에서 우리를 정결하게 하시느니라.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 만일 우리 자신이 죄를 짓지 아니하였다고 말한다면 우리는 그분을 거짓말쟁이로 만드는 것이요, 그분의 말씀이 우리 안에 있지 아니하느니라.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
