1 오, 어리석은 갈라디아인들아, 예수 그리스도께서 너희 가운데서 십자가에 못 박히셨음이 너희 눈앞에 분명히 제시되어 왔는데, 누가 너희를 꾀어내어 너희가 진리에 순종하지 못하도록 하였더냐?
1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
2 내가 너희에게서 이것만을 알아보고자 하노라. “너희가 율법의 행위들로 성령을 받았더냐? 아니면 믿음의 들음으로 받았더냐?”
2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 너희가 그렇게 어리석으냐? 성령 안에서 시작하였다가 너희가 이제는 육체로 완전해지느냐?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
4 너희가 그토록 많은 일들을 헛되이 겪었느냐? 만일 그것이 여전히 헛되다면 그러한 것이라.
4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
5 그러므로 너희에게 성령을 전해주고 너희 가운데서 기적들을 행하는 자, 그는 그것을 율법의 행위들로 하느냐? 아니면 믿음의 들음으로 하느냐?
5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
6 이는 곧, “아브라함이 하나님을 믿었으니, 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨졌느니라.” 하고 기록된 것과 같으니라.
6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
7 그러므로 너희는 믿음에 속한 자들, 바로 그들이 아브라함의 후손들임을 알라.
7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
8 그런즉 성경 기록은 하나님께서 믿음을 통하여 이방 민족들의 정당함을 입증하실 것을 미리 보시고 일찍이 아브라함에게 복음을 선포하며 말씀하시기를, “네 안에서 모든 민족들이 복을 받으리라.” 하셨느니라.
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
9 그렇다면 믿음에 속한 이들은 신실한 아브라함과 함께 이처럼 복을 받느니라.
9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
10 이는 율법의 행위들에 속한 자들은 모두 저주 아래 있기 때문이니 기록되기를, “율법 책 안에 기록되어 행하도록 한 모든 것들을 지속하지 아니하는 모든 이는 저마다 저주를 받느니라.” 하였기 때문이라.
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
11 그러나 하나님의 목전에서는 율법으로 정당함을 입증받는 사람이 아무도 없음이 분명하도다. 이는 “의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라.” 하기 때문이라.
11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
12 그런즉 율법은 믿음에서 나오는 것이 아니요, 다만 “그것들을 행하는 사람은 그것들 안에서 살리라.” 하였느니라.
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
13 그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 저주가 되시어 율법의 저주로부터 우리를 구속하셨느니라. 이는 기록되기를, “나무에 달리는 모든 이는 저마다 저주를 받느니라.” 하기 때문이라.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 이는 아브라함의 복이 예수 그리스도를 통하여 이방인들 위에 임하게 하려 함이요, 우리로 하여금 믿음을 통하여 성령의 약속을 받게 하려 함이라.
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 형제들아, 내가 사람들의 방식을 따라 말하노라. 그것이 사람의 언약에 불과하더라도 일단 그것이 확정되면 아무도 취소하거나 거기에 첨가하지 못하느니라.
15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
16 이제 그 약속들은 아브라함과 그의 씨에게 하신 것이라. 그분께서 많은 이들에 대하여, “그리고 씨들에게”라 말씀하지 아니하시고 오히려 한 명에 대하여, “그리고 너의 씨에게”라 말씀하시니, 이 씨는 그리스도시라.
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 그런즉 내가 이것을 말하노라. 그리스도 안에서 하나님께로부터 일찍이 확증되었던 그 언약을 사백삼십 년 후에 제정된 율법이 취소시켜서 그것이 그 약속을 아무런 효력 없게 할 수 없느니라.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 이는 만일 그 상속이 율법에 의한 것이라면 그것은 더 이상 약속에 의한 것이 아니기 때문이라. 그러나 하나님께서는 아브라함에게 그것을 약속으로 주셨느니라.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 그렇다면 율법은 어찌하여 소용이 있느냐? 율법은 약속받은 사람들에게 그 씨가 오실 때까지 불법들 때문에 더해졌던 것이며 한 중재자의 손안에서 천사들에 의하여 그것이 제정되었던 것이라.
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 이때 중재자는 한쪽만의 중재자가 아니나 하나님께서는 하나이시라.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 그렇다면 율법이 하나님의 약속들과 대립하느냐? 하나님께서 금하시기를 바라노라. 이는 만일 생명을 부여할 수 있는 법이 주어졌더라면 진실로 의는 율법으로 인한 것이어야 했기 때문이라.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 그러나 성경 기록은 모두를 죄 아래 가두어 두었으니, 예수 그리스도의 믿음으로 말미암은 약속이 믿는 자들에게 주어지게 하려 함이라.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 그러나 믿음이 오기 전에 우리는 율법 아래 붙들려 있었으며 후에 계시될 믿음에 이를 때까지 갇혀 있었느니라.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 이런 이유로 율법은 우리를 그리스도께 데려가는 우리의 지도 교사였으니, 우리로 하여금 믿음으로 정당함을 입증받게 하려 함이라.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 다만 믿음이 온 후에 우리는 더 이상 지도 교사 아래에 있지 아니하느니라.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 이는 그리스도 예수를 믿음으로 말미암아 너희가 모두 하나님의 자녀들이기 때문이라.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 이는 그리스도 안으로 침례받은 너희는 다 그리스도를 옷 입은 것이기 때문이라.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 거기에는 유대인도 없고 헬라인도 없으며, 속박된 자도 없고 자유로운 자도 없으니, 남성도 없고 여성도 없느니라. 이는 너희가 모두 그리스도 예수 안에서 하나이기 때문이라.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 그리고 만일 너희가 그리스도의 것이면 그때는 너희가 아브라함의 씨이며 약속에 따른 상속자들이라.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
