1 자, 이제, 너희, 부유한 사람들아, 너희에게 임할 너희의 비극들로 인하여 슬피 울며 울부짖으라.

1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2 너희의 재물들은 부패되었으며 너희의 의복들은 좀나방에 먹혔도다.

2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

3 너희의 금과 은은 부식되었으며 그것들의 녹이 너희를 대적하는 증거가 될 것이요, 불처럼 너희의 살을 먹으리라. 너희는 마지막 날들을 위한 재물을 한데 쌓았도다.

3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

4 보라, 너희의 밭들에서 거두어들이는 일을 했던 인부들의 품값이 부르짖는도다. 그것이 사기를 통해 너희에 의하여 감추어졌느니라. 그런즉 거두어들이는 일을 한 자들의 부르짖음들이 사바오스의 주¹의 두 귀에 들어갔느니라.

4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

5 너희는 지상에서 쾌락 가운데 살았으며 방탕했도다. 너희는 도살의 날에서와 같이 너희의 마음을 살찌웠도다.

5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

6 너희가 정의로우신 분을 정죄하였고 죽였건만, 그분께서는 너희에게 저항하지 아니하시는도다.

6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

7 그러므로 형제들아, 주께서 오실 때까지 인내하라. 보라, 농부는 땅의 귀한 열매를 기다리며 그가 이른 비와 나중 비를 받을 때까지 열매를 위해 오래 인내하느니라.

7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

8 너희 역시 인내하라. 너희의 마음을 확고하게 하라. 이는 주의 오심이 가까이 다가오기 때문이라.

8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

9 형제들아, 서로에게 원한을 갖지 말지니, 너희가 정죄받지 않게 하려 함이라. 보라, 심판자께서 문 앞에 서 계시느니라.

9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

10 나의 형제들아, 주의 이름으로 전했던 예언자들을, 고난을 감내하는 것과 인내의 본보기로 삼으라.

10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

11 보라, 우리는 견디는 자들이 행복하다고 여기느니라. 너희는 욥의 인내에 관하여 들었고 주의 결말을 보았으니, 주께서는 매우 동정심이 많으시고 온화한 자비를 가지고 계시느니라.

11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

12 그러나 나의 형제들아, 무엇보다 맹세하지 말라. 하늘로도 말고, 땅으로도 말며, 그 밖의 맹세로도 말라. 다만 너희의 ‘예’는 ‘예’가 되게 하고, 너희의 ‘아니오’는 ‘아니오’가 되게 하라. 이는 너희로 하여금 정죄에 빠지지 않게 하려 함이라.

12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

13 너희 가운데 누군가 고난받고 있느냐? 그는 기도할지어다. 누군가 즐거워하느냐? 그는 시들로 노래할지어다.

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

14 너희 가운데 누군가 병들었느냐? 그는 교회의 장로들을 초청할지어다. 그리고 그들은 그에게 주의 이름으로 기름을 부으며 그를 위하여 기도할지어다.

14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 그리하면 믿음의 기도는 병든 자를 구원할 것이요, 주께서 그를 일으켜 세우실 것이라. 그리고 설령 그가 죄들을 범하였어도 그것들이 그에게서 용서될 것이라.

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 너희가 치유될 수 있도록 너희의 잘못들을 서로 고백하고 서로를 위하여 기도하라. 의로운 사람 한 명의 효과적이고 뜨거운 기도는 역사하는 힘이 많으니라.

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

17 엘리-야는 우리와 같이 동일한 성정들에 속한 사람이었는데 그가 비가 오지 않도록 열렬히 기도하자 삼 년 육 개월의 기간 동안 지상에 비가 오지 아니하였느니라.

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18 그리고 그가 다시 기도하자 하늘이 비를 주었고 땅이 그녀의 열매를 생산하였느니라.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

19 형제들아, 만일 너희 중 누가 진리로부터 떠나 잘못을 범하였는데 누군가 그를 회심시킨다면,

19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

20 그 죄인을 그의 길의 과오로부터 회심시키는 자는 한 명의 혼을 사망에서 구원할 것이요, 허다한 죄들을 가릴 것임을 그로 하여금 알게 하라.

20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
