1 나이가 더 많은 이를 꾸짖지 말고 다만 그를 아버지같이 대우하라. 그리고 나이가 더 젊은 남자들은 형제들같이 대우하라.
1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
2 나이가 더 많은 여자들은 어머니들같이 대우하고, 나이가 더 젊은 여자들은 온전한 순결로 자매들같이 대우하라.
2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
3 참 과부들인 과부들을 공경하라.
3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.
4 만일 어떤 과부에게 자식들이나 손주들이 있다면 그들이 먼저 집에서 효를 보이고 그들의 부모에게 보은하는 것을 배우게 하라. 이는 그것이 하나님 앞에 선하며 기꺼이 받으실 만한 것이기 때문이라.
4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
5 이제 참 과부이자 고독한 그녀는 하나님을 신뢰하고 간구들과 기도들을 밤낮으로 지속하느니라.
5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6 그러나 쾌락에 빠져 사는 여자는 그녀가 살아 있는 동안에도 그녀는 죽은 것이라.
6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
7 그런즉 이런 것들을 명하여 그들이 비난받을 일이 없게 하라.
7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
8 다만 만일 어떤 이가 자신의 친족, 특히 자기 자신의 집에 속한 사람들을 부양하지 않는다면, 그는 믿음을 부인한 것이요, 불신자보다도 더 나쁘니라.
8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
9 육십 세 미만의 과부는 계수하지 말고, 한 남자의 아내였던 자를 계수하되
9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
10 가령 그녀가 자녀들을 길렀거나, 그녀가 타국인들을 묵게 해 주었거나, 그녀가 성도들의 발을 씻겼거나, 그녀가 고난받는 자를 구제하였거나, 그녀가 모든 선한 행위마다 부지런히 따랐다면, 선한 행위들로 훌륭한 평판을 남긴 그 과부를 계수하라.
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11 그러나 젊은 과부들은 거부하라. 이는 그들이 그리스도를 거슬러 음욕이 강해질 때면 그들이 혼인하려고 할 것이기 때문이라.
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
12 이는 그들이 자신들의 처음 믿음을 던져 버렸기에 단죄를 받을 것이기 때문이라.
12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13 또 이에 더하여 그들은 집집마다 배회하며 빈둥거리는 것을 배우느니라. 그러고는 빈둥거릴 뿐만 아니라 수다쟁이들과 참견쟁이들이 되는 것도 배워 자신들이 마땅히 말하지 말아야 하는 것들을 이야기하느니라.
13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14 그러므로 나는 젊은 여자들이 혼인하여 자식들을 낳고 살림을 꾸려서 대적에게 비방할 계기를 조금도 주지 않기를 바라노라.
14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15 이는 어떤 이들이 이미 사탄을 따라 길에서 벗어났기 때문이라.
15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
16 만일 어떤 믿는 남자나 믿는 여자가 과부들을 두고 있다면 그들로 하여금 구제하게 하여 교회가 책임을 지지 않게 하라. 이는 교회가 참 과부들을 구제하려 함이라.
16 If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
17 잘 다스리는 장로들, 특히 말씀과 교리에 수고하는 자들이 두 배로 존경받기에 합당하게 여겨지도록 할지니라.
17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
18 이는 성경 기록이 말씀하시기를, “너는 곡식을 밟아 떠는 소에게 입마개를 씌우지 말지니라.” 그리고 “수고하는 자가 자신의 삯을 받는 것은 합당하니라.” 하시기 때문이라.
18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
19 장로를 대적하는 고소는 받아들이지 말되 두세 증거들 앞에서만 받아들이라.
19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
20 다른 이들도 두려워하도록 죄를 지은 자들을 모든 이들 앞에서 꾸짖으라.
20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
21 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도와 택함받은 천사들 앞에서 내가 너에게 명하노니, 너는 한쪽을 다른 쪽보다 선호하지 말고 아무것도 편파적으로 하지 말며 이런 것들을 준수하라.
21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
22 아무에게나 성급하게 두 손으로 안수하지 말고, 다른 사람들의 죄들에 동참자가 되지 말라. 너 자신을 순수하게 지키라.
22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.
23 너의 위장과 자주 앓는 너의 질환들로 인하여 더는 물만 마시지 말고 소량의 포도즙을 사용하라.
23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
24 어떤 사람들의 죄들은 미리 드러나서 먼저 심판으로 나아가며, 어떤 사람들의 죄들은 심판을 뒤따르느니라.
24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
25 이와 같이 어떤 이들의 선한 행위들도 미리부터 명백하게 드러나느니라. 그리고 그렇지 않은 것들도 숨겨질 수 없느니라.
25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
