1 하늘 아래 모든 것에는 저마다 시기가 있으며, 모든 목적에는 저마다 때가 있느니라.
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 곧, 태어날 때와 죽을 때요, 심을 때와 심겨 있는 것을 뽑을 때요,
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 죽일 때와 치유할 때요, 무너뜨릴 때와 지을 때요,
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 울 때와 웃을 때요, 애곡할 때와 춤출 때요,
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 돌들을 던져 버릴 때와 돌들을 함께 모을 때요, 포용할 때와 포용하기를 삼갈 때요,
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 얻을 때와 잃을 때요, 지킬 때와 내칠 때요,
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 찢을 때와 꿰맬 때요, 잠잠할 때와 말할 때요,
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 사랑할 때와 증오할 때요, 전쟁의 때와 평화의 때라.
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 일하는 자가 자신이 수고하는 것 가운데서 무슨 유익을 얻겠느냐?
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 나는 그 고역을 보았나니, 곧 하나님께서 사람들의 아들들에게 그 안에서 단련받도록 주신 고역이라.
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 그분께서는 모든 것을 저마다 그분의 때에 아름답게 만드셨느니라. 또한 그분께서는 그들의 마음속에 세상을 두시어 아무도 하나님께서 조성하시는 일을 시작부터 끝까지 발견할 수 없게 하셨느니라.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 사람에게는 크게 기뻐하는 것과 그의 인생에 선을 행하는 것 말고는 그들 안에 선한 것이 전혀 없다는 것을 나는 아노라.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 그리고 모든 사람이 저마다 먹고 마시며 자신의 모든 수고에서 난 좋은 것을 향유해야 함을 또한 나는 아노니, 그것은 하나님의 선물이라.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
14 하나님께서 행하시는 것은 무엇이나 그것이 영원토록 존재하리라는 것을 나는 아노라. 거기에 아무것도 덧붙여질 수 없으며, 거기에서 어떤 것도 제하여질 수 없느니라. 그런즉 하나님께서 그것을 행하시나니, 사람들이 그분 앞에서 두려워하게 하려 하심이라.
14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
15 존재해 오던 것은 지금도 존재하느니라. 그리고 존재하게 될 것은 이미 존재하던 것이니라. 그리고 하나님께서는 지나간 것을 요구하시느니라.
15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
16 ¶ 이뿐만 아니라 이후에 나는 해 아래에서 공의의 자리를 보았는데 거기에 사악함이 있었노라. 그리고 의의 자리도 보았는데 거기에 죄악이 있었노라.
16 ¶ And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
17 나는 마음속으로 말하기를, ‘하나님께서 의로운 자와 사악한 자를 심판하시리라. 이는 거기에 각각의 모든 목적과 모든 일을 위한 때가 있기 때문이라.’ 하였도다.
17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
18 나는 사람들의 아들들의 처지에 관하여 마음속으로 말하였으니, 곧 하나님께서 그들을 명백하게 드러내려 하신다는 것과, 그들로 하여금 그들 자신이 짐승들이라는 것을 알게 하려 하신다는 것이라.
18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 이는 사람들의 아들들에게 닥치는 일이 짐승들에게 닥치기 때문이라. 바로 하나의 일이 그들에게 닥치느니라. 이편이 죽는 것같이 다른 편도 그렇게 죽느니라. 진정 그들은 모두 하나의 호흡을 가졌느니라. 그렇기에 사람이 짐승보다 우월한 점이 없느니라. 이는 모든 것이 헛되기 때문이라.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 모두 한곳으로 가느니라. 모두 진토에서 나와서, 모두 진토로 다시 돌아가느니라.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 위쪽으로 올라가는 사람의 영과 땅을 향해 아래쪽으로 내려가는 짐승의 영을 누가 아느냐?
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
22 이러한 이유로 사람이 자기 자신의 일들을 크게 기뻐하는 것보다 더 나은 것이 아무것도 없다는 것을 내가 아노라. 이는 그것이 그의 몫이기 때문이라. 그런즉 누가 그를 데려다가 그의 뒤에 무엇이 있을지 보게 하겠느냐?
22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
