1 모든 사람이 우리를 그리스도의 사역자들이자 하나님의 신비들을 맡은 청지기들로서 그렇게 여기게 하라.

1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

2 더욱이 청지기들에게 요구되는 것은 신실한 사람으로 발견되는 것이라.

2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

3 다만 내가 너희에게나 사람의 판단으로나 판단받는 것은 나에게 무척 사소한 일이라. 진정 나도 나 자신을 판단하지 아니하노라.

3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.

4 이는 내가 나 자신에게 판단받을 것을 아무것도 모르나 그럼에도 이것으로 내가 정당함을 입증받는 것은 아니니, 오직 나를 판단하시는 분은 주시니라.

4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

5 그러므로 그때가 되기 전, 곧 주께서 오실 때까지는 아무것도 판단하지 말라. 그분께서는 어둠의 감추어진 일들을 빛으로 가져오기도 하실 것이며, 마음들 속의 의도들을 명백하게 나타내기도 하실 것이라. 그런 다음에야 비로소 모든 사람이 저마다 하나님께로부터 칭찬을 받을 것이라.

5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

6 그리고 형제들아, 내가 너희를 위하여 이런 일들을 나 자신에게 그리고 아폴로에게 하나의 사례로 적용하였느니라. 이는 너희가 사람들을 기록된 것 이상으로 인식하지 않는 것을 우리를 통하여 배우게 하여 너희 중 아무도 한편을 들고 다른 편을 대적하여 우쭐해지지 않게 하려 함이라.

6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

7 그런즉 누가 너를 다른 이와 구별시키느냐? 그리고 네가 가진 것 중 네가 받지 않은 것은 무엇이냐? 이제 만일 네가 그것을 받았다면 너는 어찌하여 마치 네가 그것을 받은 것이 아닌 양 자랑하는 것이냐?

7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

8 이제 너희가 배불렀고, 이제 너희가 부요하였으니, 너희가 우리 없이 왕들처럼 통치하였느니라. 그런즉 너희가 통치하기를 내가 하나님께 바라노니, 우리 또한 너희와 함께 통치하려 함이라.

8 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

9 이는 하나님께서 우리 사도들을 마치 죽음으로 정해진 것처럼 마지막에 세워 두셨다고 내가 생각하기 때문이라. 이는 우리가 세상과 천사들과 사람들에게 하나의 구경거리가 되었기 때문이라.

9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

10 우리는 그리스도를 위하여 어리석은 자들이 되었으나 너희는 그리스도 안에서 지혜롭게 되었도다. 우리는 약하나 너희는 강하도다. 너희는 명망이 있으나 우리는 멸시받는도다.

10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.

11 바로 현재 이 시간까지 우리는 배고프기도 하고, 목마르기도 하며, 헐벗기도 하고, 얻어맞기도 하며, 정처가 없기도 하고,

11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;

12 우리가 손수 일함으로 수고하기도 하느니라. 욕을 들으면서 우리는 축복하고, 박해받으면서 우리는 그것을 감내하노라.

12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:

13 우리는 모욕을 당하면서도 간절히 요청하느니라. 우리는 세상의 쓰레기처럼 되었고 이날까지 모든 것들의 폐기물이 되었도다.

13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

14 나는 너희를 부끄럽게 하려고 이런 것들을 기록하는 것이 아니요, 오직 나의 사랑을 받는 아들들로서 내가 너희에게 경고하는 것이라.

14 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.

15 이는 너희에게 그리스도 안에서 일만 명의 교사들이 있다 하더라도 너희에게 많은 아버지들이 있는 것은 아니기 때문이니, 그리스도 예수 안에서 내가 너희를 복음을 통하여 낳았기 때문이라.

15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

16 이런 이유로 내가 너희에게 간청하노니, 너희는 나를 따르는 자들이 되라.

16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.

17 이는 이런 까닭에 내가 너희에게 디모데우스¹를 보냈기 때문이니, 그는 나의 사랑을 받는 아들이요, 주 안에서 신실하니라. 그는 내가 각각의 교회에서 곳곳마다 가르치는 대로 그리스도 안에 있는 나의 길들에 관하여 너희에게 기억을 불러일으킬 것이라.

17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.

18 이제 어떤 이들은 마치 내가 너희에게 나아가지 않을 것처럼 우쭐해졌도다.

18 Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.

19 그러나 만일 주께서 원하시면, 내가 너희에게 속히 나아가겠고, 우쭐해진 자들의 언변이 아니라 오히려 권능을 알아보겠노라.

19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

20 이는 하나님의 왕국이 말에 있지 아니하고 오직 권능에 있기 때문이라.

20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

21 너희는 무엇을 바라느냐? 내가 너희에게 막대기를 가지고 나아가랴? 아니면 사랑과 온유의 영 안에서 나아가랴?

21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?
