1 그날에 아하수에루스왕이 유대인들의 원수 하만의 집을 왕비 에스더에게 주었더라. 그리고 모르드캐는 왕 앞으로 왔더라. 이는 모르드캐가 에스더에게 어떤 사람인지를 그녀가 알렸기 때문이라.
1 On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her.
2 그리고 왕은 자신이 하만에게서 빼앗은 자신의 반지를 빼서 그것을 모르드캐에게 주었더라. 그리고 에스더는 모르드캐를 하만의 집을 다스리도록 세웠더라.
2 And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
3 ¶ 이후에 에스더가 그럼에도 왕 앞에서 다시 고하며 그의 두 발 앞에 엎드렸고, 그에게 아각족 하만의 위해와 그가 유대인들을 대적하여 고안했던 그의 계책을 없애 달라고 눈물들로 간청하였더라.
3 ¶ And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.
4 그때 왕이 금 왕홀을 에스더를 향해 내밀었더라. 그러자 에스더가 일어나 왕 앞에 서서
4 Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king,
5 이같이 말하였더라. “만일 그것이 왕을 기쁘게 해 드린다면, 그리고 만일 제가 왕의 목전에서 호의를 발견하였고 그 일이 왕 앞에 옳게 보여 제가 왕의 두 눈에 기쁨이 된다면, 아각족 함므다다의 아들 하만에 의하여 고안되었고, 그가 왕의 모든 속주들에 있는 유대인들을 멸하려고 적었던 그 편지들을 뒤집는 것이 기록되도록 허락하소서.
5 And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king's provinces:
6 그런즉 제가 어떻게 저의 백성에게 임할 악을 보고 견딜 수 있겠나이까? 아니면 제가 어떻게 저의 종족의 멸망을 보고 견딜 수 있겠나이까?”
6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?
7 ¶ 그때 아하수에루스왕이 왕비 에스더와 유대인 모르드캐에게 이같이 말하였더라. “보라, 내가 하만의 집을 에스더에게 주었고 그들이 그를 교수대 위에 매달았으니, 그가 유대인들에게 그의 손을 대었기 때문이라.
7 ¶ Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.
8 그대들은 또한 유대인들을 위하여 너희가 원하는 대로 왕의 이름으로 기록하되, 그것에 왕의 반지로 인장을 찍으라. 이는 왕의 이름으로 기록되고 왕의 반지로 인장이 찍힌 문서는 아무도 뒤집을 수 없기 때문이라.”
8 Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring: for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse.
9 그런즉 왕의 서기관들이 셋째 달 그 시간에, 즉 시완월, 그달 이십삼 일에 소집되었더라. 그리고 그것이 모르드캐가 유대인들에게 명령한 모든 것대로 부관들과 속주 총독들과 인도부터 에티오피아까지 속주들을 다스리는 일백이십칠 개의 속주들의 치리자들에게 기록되었으니, 모든 속주마다 그곳의 글에 따라, 모든 백성마다 그들의 언어에 따라, 유대인들에게 그들의 글과 그들의 언어에 따라 기록되었더라.
9 Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.
10 그런즉 그가 아하수에루스왕의 이름으로 기록하여 그것에 왕의 반지로 인장을 찍었고, 말 탄 전달자들과 노새들과 낙타들과 어린 단봉낙타들을 탄 자들을 통하여 편지들을 보냈더라.
10 And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries:
11 그 편지들에서 왕은 각각의 도시 안에 있던 유대인들에게 자기들끼리 함께 모이는 것과, 그들의 생명을 위하여 맞서는 것과, 자신들을 습격하려 했던 백성과 속주의 모든 권세와 어린것들과 여자들까지 모두 파괴하고 살해하며 망하게 하는 것과, 그들에게서 약탈품을 전리품으로 취하는 것을 승인하였으니,
11 Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,
12 아하수에루스왕의 모든 속주들 안에서 한날에, 즉 아달 월인 열두째 달 십삼 일에 행하도록 승인하였더라.
12 Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.
13 모든 속주마다 주어진 명령을 위한 문서의 사본이 모든 백성에게 발행되었으니, 유대인들이 그날을 대비하여 자신들의 원수들에게 스스로 복수할 수 있도록 준비하게 하려 함이라.
13 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.
14 그렇게 하여 노새들과 낙타들을 탄 전달자들이 왕의 명령에 의해 재촉을 받고 압력을 받아 나갔더라. 그리고 그 칙령이 슈샨궁에도 주어졌더라.
14 So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the palace.
15 ¶ 그런즉 모르드캐가 청색과 백색으로 된 왕실 복장을 입고 커다란 금관을 쓰며 고운 아마와 자주색으로 된 의복을 입고 왕의 면전에서 나갔더라. 그러자 슈샨 도시가 크게 기뻐하며 반가워하였더라.
15 ¶ And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.
16 유대인들에게는 빛과 희열과 즐거움과 영예가 있었더라.
16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.
17 그리고 각각의 속주와 각각의 도시 안에서 왕의 명령과 그의 칙령이 이르는 곳은 어디든지 유대인들에게 즐거움과 반가움과 잔치와 좋은 날이 있었더라. 그리하여 그 지역의 백성 중 많은 이들이 유대인들이 되었더라. 이는 유대인들에 대한 두려움이 그들 위에 임했기 때문이라.
17 And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
