1 이제 포로로 잡혀갔던 자들의 자녀들이 이스라엘의 주 하나님께 드리는 성전을 건축한 것을 유다와 베냐민의 대적들이 들었을 때라.
1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;
2 그때 그들이 스룹바벨에게, 또 아버지들의 우두머리들에게 와서 그들에게 말하기를, “우리가 너희와 함께 건축하는 것을 허락하라. 이는 우리는 너희가 하는 것처럼 너희 하나님을 찾기 때문이라. 그리고 우리는 여기로 우리를 데리고 올라온 아수르 왕 에살핫돈의 날들 이래 그분께 희생 제물을 드리노라.” 하였더라.
2 Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.
3 그러나 스룹바벨과 예슈아와 이스라엘 아버지들의 우두머리들 중 나머지가 그들에게 말하기를, “너희는 우리 하나님께 집을 건축하는 일에 우리와 아무 상관이 없도다. 우리 스스로는 페르시아 왕인 키루스왕이 우리에게 명령하셨던 대로 우리들끼리 힘을 합쳐 이스라엘의 주 하나님을 위하여 건축하겠노라.” 하였더라.
3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
4 그때 그 지역의 백성이 유다 백성의 손을 약하게 하였고 건축하는 일에서 그들을 곤경에 빠뜨렸으며,
4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
5 그들을 대적하여 전략가들을 고용하였으니, 페르시아 왕 키루스의 모든 날들 동안, 곧 페르시아 왕 다리우스의 통치에 이르기까지 그들의 목적을 무력화시키려고 하였더라.
5 And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
6 그리고 아하수에루스가 통치할 때요, 그의 통치 초기에 그들이 유다와 예루살렘의 거주자들을 대적하여 고소장을 그에게 썼더라.
6 And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
7 ¶ 그리고 아르타크세르크세스의 날들에는 비슐람과 미드르닷과 타브엘과, 그들의 관료들 중 나머지가 페르시아 왕 아르타크세르크세스에게도 썼는데, 그 편지글은 시리아어로 기록되었으며 시리아어로 해석되었더라.
7 ¶ And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.
8 의장 르훔과 서기관 심샤이가 아르타크세르크세스왕에게 예루살렘을 대적하여 이런 투로 편지를 썼더라.
8 Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:
9 그때 의장 르훔과 서기관 심샤이와, 그들의 관료들 중 나머지가 썼으니, 곧 디나족들과 아팔삿크족들과 타플족들과 아팔스족들과 아르케족들과 바빌론인들과 수산족들과 드하위족들과 엘람족들이요,
9 Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,
10 위대하고 고귀한 아스납팔이 데리고 와서 사마리아의 도시들 안에 정착시킨 민족들 중 나머지 사람들과 강 이편에 있는 나머지 사람들이 이때에 편지를 썼더라.
10 And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.
11 ¶ 그들이 그에게, 곧 아르타크세르크세스왕에게 보낸 편지의 사본이 이러하니라. “당신의 종들, 곧 이때에 강 이편 사람들이 아뢰옵나이다.
11 ¶ This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.
12 왕께 알려지기를 바라옵는 것은, 당신께로부터 우리에게 올라온 유대인들이 예루살렘에 와서는 반역적이며 나쁜 도시를 건축하고 있으며 그것의 성벽들을 세웠고 기초들을 연결했다는 것이니이다.
12 Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.
13 이제 왕께 알려지기를 바라옵는 것은, 만일 이 도시가 건축되고 성벽들이 다시 세워진다면 그때는 그들이 통행세와 공세와 관세를 지불하지 않을 것이기에 당신께서 왕들의 수입에 손해를 입히리라는 것이니이다.
13 Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.
14 지금 우리가 왕의 궁전에서 부양을 받기 때문에, 왕의 불명예를 관망하고 있는 것은 우리에게 온당하지 아니하였나이다. 그러므로 우리는 사람을 보내어 왕께 확실히 알려 드렸나이다.
14 Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;
15 당신 조상들의 기록들의 책 안에서 그 탐색이 이루어지게 하소서. 그리하면 당신께서 기록들의 책 안에서 그것을 발견하실 것이니, 곧 이 도시가 반역적인 도시이며, 왕들과 속주들에게 해롭고, 그들이 옛적에 바로 그 안에서 폭동을 일으켜 왔다는 것을 알게 되시리이다. 이러한 까닭에 이 도시가 멸망하였나이다.
15 That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.
16 우리는 왕께 확실히 알려 드리나니, 만일 이 도시가 다시 건축되고 그것의 성벽들이 세워진다면 이런 영문으로 인하여 당신께서는 강 이편에 아무 몫도 가지지 못하시리이다.”
16 We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
17 ¶ 그때 왕이 답변을 보냈으니, 의장 르훔에게요, 서기관 심샤이에게요, 사마리아에 거하는 그들의 관료들 중 나머지 사람들에게요, 강 너머에 있는 나머지 사람들에게라. “이때에 화평이 있기를 기원하노라.
17 ¶ Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.
18 너희가 우리에게 보낸 편지는 내 앞에서 명료하게 낭독되었노라.
18 The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.
19 그리하여 내가 명령하였고 탐색이 이루어졌으니, 이 도시가 옛적에 왕들을 대적하는 내란을 벌인 것과 반역과 폭동이 그 안에서 벌어진 것이 발견되었노라.
19 And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
20 막강한 왕들이 예루살렘을 다스린 적도 있으니, 그들은 강 너머 모든 지방들을 다스렸기에 통행세와 공세와 관세가 그들에게 지불되었도다.
20 There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.
21 이제 너희는 명령을 내려 이 사람들로 하여금 중단하게 하고, 나에게서 또 다른 명령이 내려질 때까지 이 도시가 건축되지 못하게 하라.
21 Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.
22 이제 너희는 이것을 행하는 것을 실패하지 않도록 주의를 기울이라. 어찌하여 왕들에게 해를 입히는 손해가 커져야만 하겠느냐?”
22 Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
23 ¶ 이제 아르타크세르크세스왕의 편지의 사본이 르훔과 서기관 심샤이와 그들의 관료들 앞에서 낭독되었을 때 그들이 서둘러 예루살렘으로 올라가서 유대인들에게 이르렀고 병력과 권세를 동원하여 그들을 중단시켰더라.
23 ¶ Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
24 그때 예루살렘에 있는 하나님의 집의 공사가 중단되었더라. 그렇게 하여 그것이 페르시아 왕 다리우스의 통치 제이년까지 중단되었더라.
24 Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
