1 나는 참 포도나무요, 나의 아버지는 농부시라.

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 내 안에서 열매를 맺지 아니하는 모든 가지마다 그분께서 제거하시느니라. 그리고 열매를 맺는 모든 가지마다 그분께서 그것을 깨끗하게 하시니, 그것으로 하여금 더 많은 열매를 내게 하려 하심이라.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 이제 너희는 내가 너희에게 전한 말씀을 통하여 정결하게 되었느니라.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 내 안에 거하라. 그리하면 내가 너희 안에 거하느니라. 가지가 포도나무 안에 거하지 아니하면 그것이 스스로 열매를 맺을 수 없는 것같이 너희가 내 안에 거하지 아니하면 너희는 더 이상 열매를 맺을 수 없느니라.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 나는 그 포도나무요, 너희는 그 가지들이라. 내 안에 거하고 내가 그 안에 거하는 자, 바로 그는 수많은 열매를 내느니라. 이는 너희가 나 없이는 아무것도 할 수 없기 때문이라.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 만일 어떤 사람이 내 안에 거하지 아니한다면 그는 가지처럼 내어던져지고 시드느니라. 그리하면 사람들이 그것들을 모으고 그 가지들을 불속으로 던지나니, 그것들이 불태워지느니라.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 만일 너희가 내 안에 거하고 나의 말들이 너희 안에 거한다면 너희가 원하는 것을 너희는 구할지라. 그리하면 그것이 너희에게 이루어지리라.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 너희가 많은 열매를 맺는 이 일로 나의 아버지께서 영화롭게 되시는도다. 그렇게 하여 너희는 나의 제자들이 되리라.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 것같이 나도 너희를 그렇게 사랑하였느니라. 너희는 나의 사랑 안에 계속 있으라.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 만일 너희가 나의 명령들을 지킨다면 너희가 나의 사랑 안에 거하리라. 곧, 내가 나의 아버지의 명령들을 지켜서 그분의 사랑 안에 거하는 것과 같으리라.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11 이런 것들을 내가 너희에게 전하였으니, 나의 즐거움이 너희 안에 남아 있게 하려 함이요, 너희의 즐거움이 충만해지게 하려 함이라.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

12 이것이 나의 명령이니, ‘곧 내가 너희를 사랑해 온 것같이 너희가 서로 사랑하라.’

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 어떤 사람이 그의 친구들을 위하여 자신의 생명을 내려놓는 이것보다 더 위대한 사랑은 아무에게도 없느니라.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 만일 내가 너희에게 명령하는 것을 무엇이나 너희가 행한다면 너희는 나의 친구들이라.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 앞으로 나는 너희를 종들이라고 부르지 아니하노라. 이는 종은 자신의 소유주가 행하는 것을 모르기 때문이라. 다만 나는 너희를 친구들이라고 불렀노라. 이는 내가 나의 아버지께 들은 모든 것들을 내가 너희로 하여금 알게 되도록 하였기 때문이라.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

16 너희가 나를 선택한 것이 아니요, 오히려 내가 너희를 선택하였고 너희를 임명하였으니, 너희로 하여금 가서 열매를 내게 하려 함이요, 너희의 열매가 남아있게 하려 함이라. 이는 너희가 아버지께 나의 이름으로 구할 것은 무엇이나 그분께서 그것을 너희에게 주시도록 하려 함이라.

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17 내가 너희에게 이런 것들을 명령하였으니, 너희가 서로 사랑하게 하려 함이라.

17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

18 만일 세상이 너희를 증오한다면 세상이 너희를 증오하기 전에 그것이 나를 증오하였음을 너희가 아느니라.

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 만일 너희가 세상에 속하였더라면 세상은 그의 소유를 사랑하였으리라. 그러나 너희는 세상에 속하지 아니하니라. 오히려 내가 너희를 세상으로부터 선택하였으므로 세상이 너희를 증오하느니라.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 내가 너희에게 말하기를, ‘종은 자신의 소유주보다 더 위대하지 않도다.’ 한 말을 기억하라. 만일 그들이 나를 박해하였다면 그들은 너희 역시 박해하리라. 만일 그들이 내가 말한 것을 지켰다면 그들이 너희의 말도 지키리라.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

21 그러나 이 모든 것들을 그들이 나의 이름으로 인하여 너희에게 행할 것이라. 이는 그들이 나를 보내신 분을 모르는 까닭이라.

21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

22 만일 내가 와서 그들에게 전하지 아니하였더라면 그들은 죄가 없었으리라. 그러나 이제 그들은 자신들의 죄를 가릴 것이 전혀 없느니라.

22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

23 나를 증오하는 자는 나의 아버지도 증오하는 것이라.

23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

24 만일 내가 그들 사이에서 다른 사람이 전혀 행하지 아니한 일들을 행하지 아니하였더라면 그들은 죄가 없었으리라. 그러나 이제 그들은 나와 나의 아버지 모두를 보기도 하였고 증오하기도 하였느니라.

24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

25 그러나 이러한 일이 일어나노니, ‘그들이 나를 아무런 까닭 없이 증오하였나이다.’ 하신 그들의 율법 안에 기록된 말씀이 성취되게 하려 함이라.

25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26 그러나 내가 아버지께로부터 너희에게 보낼 그 위로자, 바로 아버지께로부터 나오시는 진리의 영께서 오실 때면 그분께서 나에 관하여 증언하시리라.

26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

27 그리고 너희 역시 증거하리니, 너희가 초기부터 나와 함께 있었기 때문이라.

27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
