1 예수님께서 올리브산으로 가셨더라.

Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

2 그리고 아침에 일찍 그분께서 성전으로 다시 나아오셨으니, 모든 백성이 그분께 왔더라. 그리고 그분께서 앉으셔서 그들을 가르치셨더라.

And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

3 그러자 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들이 간음 중에 잡힌 여자를 그분께 데려왔더라. 그리고 그들이 한가운데 그녀를 세워 두었을 때,

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

4 그들이 그분께 이같이 말씀드리니라. “스승이여, 이 여자는 간음하다가 바로 그 현장에서 잡혔나이다.

They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

5 이때 모세는 율법 안에서 그러한 자는 돌에 맞아 죽어야 한다고 우리에게 명령하였나이다. 그러나 당신께서는 무엇이라 말씀하시나이까?”

Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

6 그들이 그분을 고소하려고 그분을 시험하며 그들이 이렇게 말하였더라. 그러나 예수님께서는 마치 그분께서 그들의 말을 듣지 못하신 것같이 몸을 굽히셔서 그분의 손가락으로 땅바닥 위에다 적으셨더라.

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

7 그런 이유로 그들이 그분께 여쭈기를 계속하였는데 그분께서 자기 몸을 일으켜 세우시고 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희 가운데 죄 없는 자, 그가 먼저 돌을 그녀에게 던지라.” 하셨느니라.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8 그러고는 다시 그분께서 몸을 굽히신 후에 땅바닥 위에다 적으셨더라.

And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

9 그러자 그것을 들은 자들은 그들 자신의 양심에 의하여 가책을 받아 가장 나이가 많은 자부터 시작하여 심지어 가장 막내인 자까지 한 명씩 빠져나갔더라. 그러자 예수님께서 홀로 남으셨고 그 여자는 한가운데 서 있었더라.

And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 예수님께서 자기 몸을 일으켜 세우시고 그 여자 외에는 아무도 없는 것을 보시자 친히 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “여자여, 너를 고소하던 그 자들이 어디에 있느냐? 아무도 너를 정죄하지 아니하였더냐?” 하셨느니라.

When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 그녀가 말씀드리기를, “주여, 아무도 없나이다.” 하였더라. 이에 예수님께서 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “나도 너를 정죄하지 아니하노라. 가라. 그리고 더는 죄를 짓지 말라.” 하셨느니라.

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

12 ¶ 그때 예수님께서 다시 그들에게 일러 말씀하시기를, “나는 세상의 빛이라. 나를 따르는 자는 어둠 가운데 살아가지 아니할 것이요, 오히려 생명의 빛을 소유하리라.” 하셨느니라.

¶ Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

13 그러므로 바리새파 사람들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신께서는 자신에 관하여 확증하시나이다. 당신의 확증은 참되지 아니하나이다.” 하였더라.

The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

14 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하여 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “비록 내가 자신에 관하여 확증할지라도 여전히 나의 확증은 참되도다. 이는 나는 내가 어디에서 왔고 내가 어디로 가는지 알기 때문이라. 그러나 내가 어디에서 오고 내가 어디로 가는지 너희는 분간할 수 없느니라.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

15 너희는 육신을 따라 판단하나 나는 아무도 판단하지 아니하노라.

Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

16 그런데도 불구하고 만일 내가 판단한다면 나의 판단은 참되니라. 이는 내가 홀로 있는 것이 아니요, 오히려 나를 보내신 아버지께서 나와 함께 계시기 때문이라.

And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

17 너희의 율법에도 두 사람의 증언은 참되다고 기록되었느니라.

It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

18 나는 자신에 관하여 증거하는 이요, 나를 보내신 아버지께서는 나에 관하여 증거하시느니라.”

I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

19 그때 그들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신의 아버지께서 어디에 계시나이까?” 하였더라. 예수님께서 대답하시기를, “너희는 나도, 나의 아버지도 모르노라. 만일 너희가 나를 알았더라면 너희는 나의 아버지도 알았을 것이라.” 하셨느니라.

Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

20 예수님께서는 자신이 성전에서 가르치시는 동안 성전 금고에서 이 말씀들을 하셨더라. 그런데 아무도 그분께 손들을 대지 아니하였으니, 그분의 시각이 아직 오지 아니하였기 때문이라.

These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

21 그때 예수님께서 그들에게 다시 말씀하시기를, “나는 나의 길을 가노라. 그런즉 너희는 나를 찾을 것이나 너희의 죄들 가운데서 죽을 것이라. 내가 가는 곳으로 너희는 올 수 없느니라.” 하셨느니라.

Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

22 그때 유대인들이 말하기를, “그분이 자살하시려는가? 이는 그분이 말씀하시기를, ‘내가 가는 곳으로 너희는 올 수 없느니라.’ 하시는 까닭이라.” 하였더라.

Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

23 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희는 아래로부터 났으나 나는 위로부터 났노라. 너희는 이 세상에 속하나 나는 이 세상에 속하지 아니하노라.

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

24 그러므로 내가 너희는 너희의 죄들 가운데서 죽을 것이라고 너희에게 말하였느니라. 이는 만일 너희가, 나는 그라는 것을 믿지 아니한다면 너희가 너희의 죄들 가운데서 죽을 것이기 때문이라.”

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

25 그때 그들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신은 누구시나이까?” 하였더라. 이에 예수님께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “나는 시작부터 너희에게 말한 바로 그니라.

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

26 나에게는 너희에 관하여 말하고 판단할 것들이 많이 있으나 나를 보내신 분께서 참되시니, 나는 내가 그분께 들은 그것들을 세상에 전하노라.”

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

27 그들은 그분께서 아버지에 관하여 그들에게 말씀하신 것을 이해하지 못하였더라.

They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

28 그때 예수님께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희가 인자를 들어 올린 후에야 그때 너희는 알게 되리니, 곧 나는 그라는 것이요, 내가 아무것도 스스로 하지 아니하고 다만 나의 아버지께서 나를 가르치신 대로 내가 이런 것들을 말하는 줄 알리라.

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29 그리고 나를 보내신 분은 나와 함께 계시느니라. 아버지께서는 나를 홀로 남겨 두지 아니하셨느니라. 이는 내가 그분을 기쁘게 해 드리는 그런 것들을 항상 행하기 때문이라.”

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

30 그분께서 이 말씀들을 전하시는 동안 많은 이들이 그분을 믿었더라.

As he spake these words, many believed on him.

31 그때 예수님께서 자신을 믿는 그 유대인들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “만일 너희가 내 말 안에 계속 있다면 그때 너희는 나의 진정한 제자들이 되느니라.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 그리하면 너희가 진리를 알리니, 진리가 너희를 자유롭게 하리라.”

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 ¶ 그들이 그분께 이같이 대답하였더라. “우리는 아브라함의 씨요, 누구에게도 결코 속박되지 아니하였을진대 어찌 당신께서는 말씀하시기를, ‘너희가 자유롭게 되리라.’ 하시나이까?”

¶ They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨느니라. “진실로, 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘누구든지 죄를 범하는 자는 죄의 종이라.’

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

35 그리고 종은 집 안에 영원토록 거하지 못하느니라. 그러나 아들은 언제나 거하느니라.

And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36 그러므로 만일 아들이 너희를 자유롭게 한다면 너희는 정녕 자유롭게 되리라.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

37 너희가 아브라함의 씨라는 것을 내가 아느니라. 그러나 내 말이 너희 안에 있을 곳이 전혀 없는 까닭에 너희는 나를 죽이려고 하는도다.

I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

38 나는 내가 나의 아버지와 함께 본 것을 말하느니라. 그리고 너희는 너희가 너희 아비와 함께 본 것을 행하는도다.”

I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

39 그들이 그분께 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “아브라함이 우리의 조상이니이다.” 하였더라. 예수님께서는 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “만일 너희가 아브라함의 자녀들이라면 너희는 아브라함의 행위들을 하고자 하리라.

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

40 그러나 이제 너희는 너희에게 진리를 알려 준 사람, 곧 나를 죽이려고 하니, 그 진리는 내가 하나님께 들은 것이라. 아브라함은 이렇게 행하지 아니하였도다.

But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

41 너희는 너희 아비의 행실들을 행하는도다.” 그때 그들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “우리는 음행으로 태어나지 아니하였나이다. 우리에게는 유일하신 아버지가 계시니 곧 하나님이시니이다.” 하였더라.

Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

42 예수님께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “만일 하나님께서 너희의 아버지시라면 너희는 나를 사랑하였으리라. 이는 내가 하나님께로부터 나서 나아왔기 때문이라. 나는 스스로 온 것이 아니요, 다만 그분께서 나를 보내신 것이라.

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

43 어찌하여 너희는 내가 하는 말을 이해하지 못하느냐? 바로 너희가 나의 말을 들을 수 없는 까닭이라.

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44 너희는 너희의 아비인 마귀에게 속하였으니, 너희가 너희 아비의 정욕들을 행하려고 하는도다. 그는 시작부터 살인자였으며, 진리 안에 거하지 아니하였으니, 그 안에 진리가 전혀 없기 때문이라. 그가 거짓말을 할 때면 그는 자기 자신에게서 나오는 거짓으로 말하느니라. 이는 그가 거짓말쟁이요, 거짓의 아비이기 때문이라.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 그런즉 너희는 나를 믿지 아니하는도다. 이는 내가 너희에게 진리를 알려 주는 까닭이라.

And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

46 너희 중에 누가 나에게 죄가 있다고 입증하겠느냐? 그리고 내가 진리를 말하는데도 어찌하여 너희는 나를 믿지 아니하느냐?

Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 하나님께 속한 자는 하나님의 말씀들을 듣느니라. 그러므로 너희는 그것들을 듣지 아니하니, 너희가 하나님께 속하지 아니한 까닭이라.”

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

48 그때 유대인들이 대응하여 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신은 사마리아인이며, 한 마귀에 들린 자라고 우리가 잘 말하지 아니하였나이까?” 하였더라.

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

49 예수님께서 대답하셨느니라. “나는 한 마귀에 들린 것이 아니니라. 오히려 나는 나의 아버지를 공경하고 있는데 너희는 나를 욕되게 하는도다.

Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

50 그리고 나는 나 자신의 영광을 구하지 아니하느니라. 나의 영광을 구하고 심판하시는 한 분이 계시니라.

And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

51 진실로, 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 만일 사람이 내가 말한 것을 지킨다면 그는 죽음을 결코 보지 아니하리라.”

Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

52 그때 유대인들이 그분께 이같이 말씀드렸더라. “이제 우리는 당신이 한 마귀가 들린 것을 아나이다. 아브라함과 예언자들은 죽었는데 당신은 말씀하시기를, ‘만일 사람이 내가 말한 것을 지킨다면 그는 죽음을 결코 맛보지 아니하리라.’ 하시나이다.

Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

53 죽은 우리의 조상 아브라함보다 당신이 더 위대하나이까? 그리고 예언자들도 죽었나이다. 당신은 스스로를 누구로 만드나이까?”

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

54 예수님께서 대답하셨느니라. “만일 내가 나 자신을 존귀하게 여긴다면 나의 존귀는 아무것도 아니니라. 나를 존귀하게 여기시는 분은 나의 아버지시니라. 그분에 관하여 너희는 그분이 너희의 하나님이라고 말하는도다.

Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55 그럼에도 너희는 그분을 몰랐도다. 그러나 나는 그분을 아느니라. 그리고 만일 내가 말하기를, ‘나는 그분을 모른다.’ 해야 한다면, 나는 너희에게 거짓말쟁이같이 되리라. 그러나 나는 그분을 알고 그분이 말씀하시는 것을 지키노라.

Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

56 너희의 조상 아브라함은 나의 날을 보는 것을 크게 기뻐하였느니라. 그리하여 그가 그것을 보았고 반가워하였느니라.”

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

57 그때 유대인들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신은 아직 오십 세도 안 되었는데 당신이 아브라함을 보셨나이까?” 하였더라.

Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “진실로, 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘아브라함이 있기 전에 나는 있느니라.’” 하셨느니라.

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59 그때 그들이 그분께 던지려고 돌들을 집어 들었더라. 그러나 예수님께서 자신을 숨기셨으며, 그들 한가운데를 가로질러 성전 밖으로 나가셨으니, 그렇게 지나가셨더라.

Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
