1 그리고 네부카드네자르의 통치 제이년에 네부카드네자르가 꿈들을 꾸었는데 그의 영이 그 꿈들로 인하여 근심에 빠졌고 그의 잠이 그에게서 달아나 버렸더라.

And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.

2 그때 왕이 마술사들과 점성술사들과 마법사들과 칼데아인들을 불러오라고 명령하였으니, 왕에게 그의 꿈들을 제시하게 하려는 것이었더라. 그렇게 하여 그들이 와서 왕 앞에 섰더라.

Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

3 그런즉 왕이 그들에게 말하기를, “내가 한 꿈을 꾸었고 나의 영이 그 꿈을 알고자 애를 먹었도다.” 하였더라.

And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.

4 그때 칼데아인들이 왕에게 아람어로 말하기를, “오, 왕이여, 영원토록 사시옵소서. 그 꿈을 당신의 종들에게 알려 주소서. 그리하면 저희가 그 해석을 제시해 드리겠나이다.” 하였더라.

Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

5 왕이 칼데아인들에게 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “그 꿈이 나에게서 떠나 버렸도다. 만일 너희가 그 꿈과 그것의 해석을 나에게 알려 주지 아니한다면 너희는 여러 토막들로 잘려질 것이요, 너희 집들은 거름 더미로 만들어지리라.

The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

6 그러나 만일 너희가 그 꿈과 그것의 해석을 제시한다면, 너희는 나에게서 선물들과 보상들과 커다란 영예를 받으리라. 그러므로 그 꿈과 그것의 해석을 나에게 제시하라.”

But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.

7 그들이 다시 대답하여 말하기를, “왕께서는 그 꿈을 왕의 종들에게 말씀하시옵소서. 그리하면 저희가 그 꿈의 해석을 제시하겠나이다.” 하였더라.

They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.

8 왕이 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “너희가 나에게서 그 꿈이 사라진 것을 알기 때문에 너희가 시간을 벌려고 한다는 것을 내가 확실히 아노라.

The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.

9 그러나 만일 너희가 그 꿈을 나에게 알려 주지 아니한다면 너희를 위하여 오직 하나의 칙령만이 있노라. 이는 너희가 거짓말과 변질된 말들을 내 앞에서 말하려고 예비하여 때가 바뀔 때까지 기다리려 함이라. 그러므로 나에게 그 꿈을 알리라. 그리하면 너희가 그것의 해석을 나에게 보여줄 수 있음을 내가 알리라.”

But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.

10 ¶ 칼데아인들이 왕 앞에서 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “왕의 사안을 제시할 수 있는 사람은 땅 위에 한 명도 없나이다. 그러므로 어떤 왕이나 군주나 치리자도 이런 것들을 어느 마술사나 점성술사나 칼데아인에게 묻지 아니하였나이다.

¶ The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

11 그리고 왕께서 요구하시는 것은 드문 일이니이다. 육체와 함께 거하지 않는 신들 외에는 왕 앞에서 그것을 제시할 수 있는 다른 자가 아무도 없나이다.”

And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

12 이런 까닭에 왕이 분노하였고 몹시 광포하여 바빌론의 모든 지혜로운 사람들을 멸하라고 명령하였더라.

For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

13 그리하여 지혜로운 사람들이 살해되어야 한다는 칙령이 나갔더라. 그런즉 그들이 살해될 처지에 있는 다니엘과 그의 동료들도 찾았더라.

And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

14 ¶ 그때 바빌론의 지혜로운 사람들을 살해하려고 나간 왕의 경호대장 아리옥에게 다니엘이 지략과 지혜로 대답하였더라.

¶ Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

15 그가 왕의 대장 아리옥에게 대답하여 말하기를, “그 칙령이 어찌 그리 서둘러 왕께로부터 내려오나이까?” 하였더라. 그때 아리옥이 다니엘에게 그 일이 알려지게 하였더라.

He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

16 그때 다니엘이 안으로 들어가서 왕에게 희망하기를 왕이 자신에게 시간을 주면 자신이 왕에게 그 해석을 제시하겠다고 하였더라.

Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.

17 그때 다니엘이 자기 집으로 가서 자신의 벗들인 하나니야와 미샤엘과 아자리야에게 그 일이 알려지게 하였더라.

Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

18 이는 그들이 이 비밀에 관하여 하늘의 하나님의 자비들을 갈구하여 다니엘과 그의 동료들이 바빌론의 나머지 지혜로운 사람들과 함께 멸망하지 않게 하려는 것이었더라.

That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19 ¶ 그때 그 비밀이 밤의 현시 가운데 다니엘에게 계시되었더라. 그때 다니엘이 하늘의 하나님을 찬양하였더라.

¶ Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20 다니엘이 응답하여 이같이 말씀드렸더라. “하나님의 이름이 영원무궁토록 찬양받으시기를 바라나이다. 이는 지혜와 막강함이 그분께 속하기 때문이니이다.

Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

21 그리고 그분께서는 때들과 시기들을 변경하시나이다. 그분께서는 왕들을 폐위시키고 왕들을 등극시키시나이다. 그분께서는 지혜로운 자에게는 지혜를, 명철을 아는 자들에게는 지식을 주시나이다.

And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

22 그분께서는 깊고 비밀스러운 것들을 계시하시나이다. 그분께서는 어둠 속에 있는 것을 아시나니, 빛이 그분과 함께 거하나이다.

He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

23 오, 나의 조상들의 하나님이신 당신이여, 저는 당신께 감사하며 당신을 찬송하나이다. 당신께서 저에게 지혜와 역량을 주셨고 저희가 당신께 갈구한 것을 지금 저에게 알게 하셨나이다. 이는 당신께서 이제 왕의 사안을 저희에게 알게 하셨기 때문이니이다.”

I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.

24 ¶ 그러므로 다니엘은 왕이 바빌론의 지혜로운 사람들을 멸하라고 선임한 아리옥에게로 들어갔더라. 그가 가서 그에게 이와 같이 말하기를, “바빌론의 지혜로운 사람들을 멸하지 마시고 제가 왕 앞에 들어가도록 인도하소서. 그리하면 제가 왕에게 그 해석을 제시하겠나이다.” 하였더라.

¶ Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.

25 그때 아리옥이 서둘러 다니엘을 왕 앞으로 인도하며 왕에게 이와 같이 말하기를, “제가 유다의 포로들 중에서 왕께 그 해석을 알려 드릴 한 남자를 발견하였나이다.” 하였더라.

Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

26 그의 이름이 벨트샤잘이던 다니엘에게 왕이 대답하여 말하기를, “내가 본 그 꿈과 그것의 해석을 네가 나에게 알려 줄 수 있겠느냐?” 하였더라.

The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?

27 다니엘이 왕의 면전에서 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “왕께서 강력하게 요구하신 그 비밀을 지혜로운 사람들과 점성술사들과 마술사들과 점쟁이들은 왕께 제시할 수 없나이다.

Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;

28 그러나 비밀들을 계시하시며 마지막에 가까운 날들에 있을 일을 네부카드네자르왕께 알리시는 한 하나님께서 하늘에 계시나이다. 당신의 꿈과, 당신의 침상 위에서 떠오른 당신의 머릿속 현시들은 이것들이니이다.

But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

29 오, 왕이여, 당신으로 말하자면, 당신의 침상 위에서 장차 있을 일에 대하여 당신의 생각들이 당신의 의중에 들어갔나이다. 그리하여 비밀들을 계시하시는 분께서 미래에 있을 일을 당신께 알려 주시고 계시나이다.

As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.

30 그러나 저로 말하자면, 이 비밀이 저에게 계시된 것은 살아 있는 어떤 자보다 제가 어떠한 지혜가 더 있어서가 아니요, 다만 왕께 이 해석을 알게 할 자들을 위해서니, 당신으로 하여금 당신의 마음의 생각들을 알게 하려 함이니이다.

But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

31 ¶ 오, 왕이여, 당신께서 보셨나이다. 그런즉 보소서, 한 거대한 형상이니이다. 이 거대한 형상은 그것의 광명이 탁월하였으며 당신 앞에 서 있었나이다. 그리고 그것의 형체는 공포스러웠나이다.

¶ Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.

32 이 형상의 머리는 정금이요, 그의 가슴과 그의 두 팔은 은이요, 그의 배와 그의 두 넓적다리는 놋이요,

This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,

33 그의 두 다리는 철이요, 그의 두 발은 부분적으로 철이며 부분적으로 진흙이었나이다.

His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.

34 당신께서 보셨는데 마침내 손들을 대지 않고 깎여 나간 돌이 철과 진흙으로 된 그의 두 발 위로 그 형상을 쳐서 그것들을 산산이 부수었나이다.

Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.

35 그때 철과 진흙과 놋과 은과 금이 모두 다 산산이 부서져서 여름 타작마당들의 쭉정이처럼 되었나이다. 그런즉 바람이 그것들을 날려 버렸으니, 그것들을 위한 장소가 발견되지 아니하였나이다. 그러고 나서 그 형상을 친 돌은 태산이 되어 온 땅을 가득 채웠나이다.

Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

36 ¶ 이것이 그 꿈이니이다. 그런즉 우리가 그것의 해석을 왕 앞에서 알리겠나이다.

¶ This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.

37 오, 왕이여, 당신께서는 왕들의 왕이시니이다. 이는 하늘의 하나님께서 당신께 왕국과 권세와 힘과 영광을 주셨기 때문이니이다.

Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

38 그리고 사람들의 자녀들과, 들의 짐승들과, 하늘의 날짐승들이 거하는 모든 곳들을 그분께서 당신의 손안에 주셨으니, 당신을 그 모든 것들을 다스리는 치리자로 삼으셨나이다. 당신께서는 이 금 머리시니이다.

And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

39 그리고 당신 이후에 당신보다 못한 다른 왕국이 일어날 것이요, 또 다른 셋째 왕국이 놋으로 일어나리니, 놋 왕국이 온 땅을 다스릴 것이니이다.

And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

40 그리고 넷째 왕국은 철같이 강하리이다. 이는 철이 모든 것들을 산산이 부수며 정복하기 때문이니이다. 그런즉 이 모든 것들을 부수는 철같이 그것이 산산이 부수고 상하게 할 것이니이다.

And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

41 그리고 당신께서 부분적으로는 토기장이들의 진흙이고, 또 부분적으로는 철인 두 발과 발가락들을 보셨으므로, 그 왕국은 나눠지리이다. 그러나 당신께서 철과 차진 진흙이 혼합되어 있는 것을 보신 것같이 그 안에는 철의 강력함이 있으리이다.

And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

42 그리고 그 두 발의 발가락들이 부분적으로 철이며 부분적으로 진흙인 것같이 그 왕국도 부분적으로 강하며 부분적으로 부서지리이다.

And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

43 그리고 당신께서 철과 차진 진흙이 혼합되어 있는 것을 보셨으므로 그들은 자신들을 사람들의 씨와 섞으리이다. 그러나 그들은 바로 철이 진흙과 섞이지 아니하는 것같이 서로에게 달라붙지 못할 것이니이다.

And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

44 그리고 이 왕들의 날들에 하늘의 하나님께서 한 왕국을 세우시리니, 그 왕국은 결코 멸망하지 아니하리이다. 그리고 그 왕국은 다른 백성에게 남겨지지 아니할 것이요, 오히려 그것이 이 모든 왕국들을 산산이 부수고 진멸하리니, 그 왕국은 영원토록 서리이다.

And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

45 당신께서는 손들을 대지 않은 돌이 산에서 깎여 나간 것과 그것이 철과 놋과 진흙과 은과 금을 산산이 부수는 것을 보셨으니, 위대하신 하나님께서 장차 무엇이 일어날지 왕께 알려지게 하셨나이다. 그런즉 그 꿈은 명확하고 그것의 해석도 확실하나이다.”

Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

46 ¶ 그때 네부카드네자르왕이 자기 얼굴을 대고 엎드려 다니엘에게 경배하였으며 그들로 하여금 그에게 헌납물과 감미로운 향품들을 바치도록 명령하였더라.

¶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

47 왕이 다니엘에게 대답하여 말하기를, “그대가 이 비밀을 계시할 수 있던 것을 보니, 참으로 그대들의 하나님께서는 신들의 한 하나님이시요, 만왕의 한 주이시며 비밀들을 계시하시는 분이시로다.” 하였더라.

The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

48 그때 왕이 다니엘을 위대한 사람으로 삼고 그에게 대단한 선물들을 많이 주며 그를 바빌론 전체 속주를 다스리는 치리자이자, 바빌론의 모든 지혜로운 사람들을 주관하는 총독들의 우두머리로 삼았더라.

Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 그때 다니엘이 왕에게 요청하였더니, 그가 샤드락과 메샥과 아벳느고를 세워 바빌론 속주의 정사들을 다스리게 하였더라. 그러나 다니엘은 왕의 대문 안에 앉았더라.

Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
