1 그 당시에 아주 엄청난 수의 무리가 있었는데 먹을 것이 아무것도 없기에 예수님께서 그분의 제자들을 그분께로 불러다가 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라.

In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,

2 “내가 이 무리에게 연민을 가지고 있노라. 이는 그들이 지금 나와 함께 삼 일을 있었는데 먹을 것이 아무것도 없기 때문이라.

I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:

3 그런즉 만일 내가 그들을 굶긴 채 그들 자신의 집들로 돌려보낸다면 그들은 도중에 실신할 것이라. 이는 그들 중 여럿은 멀리서 왔기 때문이라.”

And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

4 그러자 그분의 제자들이 그분께 대답하기를, “어떤 사람이 여기 광야의 어디에서 이 사람들을 빵으로 만족시킬 수 있겠나이까?” 하였더라.

And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?

5 이에 그분께서 그들에게 물으시기를, “너희가 가진 빵 덩이들이 얼마나 되느냐?” 하셨느니라. 그러자 그들이 말씀드리기를, “일곱 덩이니이다.” 하였더라.

And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

6 이에 그분께서 백성에게 땅바닥에 앉으라고 명령하셨더라. 그러고는 그분께서 빵 일곱 덩이를 취하시어 감사들을 드리신 다음에 찢으시고 그분의 제자들에게 그들 앞에 놓으라고 주셨더라. 그런 다음에 그들은 그것들을 백성 앞에 놓았더라.

And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.

7 그리고 그들은 작은 물고기 몇 마리를 가지고 있었는데 그분께서 복을 주시어 그것들 역시도 그들 앞에 놓으라고 명령하셨더라.

And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.

8 그렇게 하여 그들이 먹고 배가 채워졌더라. 그런 다음에 그들이 쪼개진 음식에서 남은 것을 일곱 바구니 거두었더라.

So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

9 그리하여 먹은 자들은 약 사천 명이었으니, 그분께서 그들을 돌려보내셨더라.

And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

10 ¶ 그러고 나서 그분께서 곧바로 자신의 제자들과 함께 어떤 선박 안으로 들어가셨고, 달마누다의 구역들로 가셨더라.

¶ And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

11 그러자 바리새파 사람들이 나아와 그분께 하늘로부터 오는 표적을 구하고 그분을 시험하며 그분께 여쭈기 시작하였더라.

And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

12 이에 그분께서 자신의 영 안에서 깊이 탄식하며 말씀하시기를, “어찌하여 이 세대가 표적을 구하는가? 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘이 세대에게는 어떠한 표적도 주어지지 아니하리라.’” 하시니라.

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

13 그런 다음에 그분께서 그들을 떠나 다시금 선박 안으로 들어가시어 저편으로 떠나가셨더라.

And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

14 ¶ 이때 제자들이 빵을 가져오는 것을 잊었으니, 그들이 선박 안에서 지니고 있던 것도 그들에게는 한 덩이 밖에 없었더라.

¶ Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

15 그리고 그분께서 그들에게 명하시어 말씀하시기를, “바리새파 사람들의 누룩과 헤롯의 누룩을 주의하고 경계하라.” 하시니라.

And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

16 그러자 그들이 자기들끼리 논의하며 말하기를, “이는 우리에게 빵이 없기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

17 그런즉 예수님께서 그것을 아셨을 때 그들에게 친히 이같이 말씀하시니라. “어찌하여 너희는 너희에게 빵이 없으므로 논의하느냐? 너희가 아직도 알아차리지도 이해하지도 못하느냐? 너희가 아직도 너희 마음을 완악하게 하고 있느냐?

And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

18 너희는 눈이 있어도 보지 못하느냐? 또 너희는 귀가 있어도 듣지 못하느냐? 또 너희는 기억하지 못하느냐?

Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

19 내가 오천 명 가운데서 다섯 덩이의 빵을 찢었을 때 너희가 빵 조각들로 가득한 바구니들을 얼마나 많이 거두었느냐?” 그들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “열둘이니이다.” 하더라.

When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

20 또 말씀하시기를, “그리고 사천 명 가운데서 일곱 덩이의 빵이 있었을 때 너희가 빵 조각들로 가득한 바구니들을 얼마나 많이 거두었느냐?” 하셨느니라. 이에 그들이 말씀드리기를, “일곱이니이다.” 하였더라.

And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

21 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “어찌하여 너희가 이해하지 못하느냐?” 하셨느니라.

And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

22 ¶ 그런 다음에 그분께서 벧새다에 당도하시니라. 이에 그들이 눈먼 사람 한 명을 그분께 데려와서 그를 만져 주시기를 그분께 간청하였더라.

¶ And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.

23 그러자 그분께서 그 눈먼 사람을 손으로 잡으시고 그를 마을 밖으로 인도하셨더라. 그런 다음에 그분께서 그의 두 눈에 침을 뱉으시고 자신의 두 손을 그에게 올려놓으셨을 때 그가 조금 보이는지 그분께서 그에게 물으셨더라.

And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

24 이에 그가 올려다보며 말씀드리기를, “나무들 같은 사람들이 걷고 있는 것을 제가 보나이다.” 하였더라.

And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

25 그 뒤에 그분께서 자신의 두 손을 그의 두 눈에 다시 올려놓으시고 그로 하여금 올려다보게 하셨더라. 그러자 그가 회복되어 모든 사람을 각각 또렷하게 보았더라.

After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

26 이에 그분께서 그를 그의 집으로 돌려보내시며 말씀하시기를, “마을로 들어가지도 말고 마을에 있는 누구에게도 그것을 알리지 말라.” 하셨더라.

And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

27 ¶ 그러고는 예수님과 그분의 제자들이 나가서 카이사랴 빌립보의 마을들로 들어가셨더라. 그리고 길에서 그분이 자신의 제자들에게 말씀하시며 그들에게 물으시기를, “사람들은 내가 누구라고 말하느냐?” 하셨더라.

¶ And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?

28 그러자 그들이 대답하기를, “침례자 요한이라 하나이다. 그러나 일부는 엘리-야라 말하기도 하고 다른 이들은 예언자들 중 하나라고 하나이다.” 하였더라.

And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.

29 이에 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “그러나 너희는 내가 누구라고 말하느냐?” 하시니라. 그러자 베드로가 그분께 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “당신께서는 그리스도시니이다.” 하니라.

And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

30 이에 그분께서 그들에게 명하시어 그들이 그분에 관하여 아무에게도 알리지 말아야 한다고 하셨더라.

And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

31 그러고는 그분께서 그들을 가르치기 시작하셨으니, 인자가 반드시 많은 것들로 수난을 겪어야 하는 것과 장로들에게서 그리고 수석 제사장들과 서기관들에게서 거절당하고 죽임당하며 삼 일 뒤에 다시 살아나야 한다는 것이더라.

And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

32 그런즉 그분께서 그 말씀을 드러나게 하셨으니, 베드로가 그분을 붙들고 그분을 제지하기 시작하였더라.

And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

33 그러나 그분께서 방향을 바꾸시어 그분의 제자들을 바라보셨을 때, 그분께서 베드로를 꾸짖으시며 말씀하시기를, “사탄아, 너는 내 뒤로 물러가라. 이는 네가 하나님께 속한 것들을 선호하지 아니하고 오히려 사람들에게 속한 것들을 선호하기 때문이라.” 하셨느니라.

But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

34 ¶ 그런 다음에 그분께서 백성과 함께 자신의 제자들도 자신에게로 부르셨을 때, 그들에게 친히 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “누구든지 나를 따라오려거든 그는 자신을 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따를지어다.

¶ And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

35 이는 누구든지 자기 생명을 구원하려고 하면 그것을 잃을 것이나, 누구든지 나를 위하여 또 복음을 위하여 자기 생명을 잃으려고 하면 그는 그것을 구원할 것이기 때문이라.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

36 그러므로 사람이 온 세상을 얻고도 자기 자신의 혼을 잃는다면 그것이 그에게 무슨 유익이 있겠느냐?

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

37 혹은 사람이 자신의 혼을 대신하여 무엇을 주겠느냐?

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

38 그러므로 누구든지 이 음란하고 죄 많은 세대에서 나와 내 말들을 부끄러워하면 인자도 자신이 자기 아버지의 영광 가운데 거룩한 천사들과 함께 올 때 그를 부끄러워하리라.”

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
