1 그렇다면 우리가 무슨 말을 하겠느냐? 은혜가 넘치게 하려고 우리가 죄 가운데 지속적으로 거하겠느냐?
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 하나님께서 금하시기를 바라노라. 죄에게 죽은 우리가 어찌 죄 가운데 살겠느냐?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 우리 중 매우 많은 이들이 예수 그리스도 안으로 침례를 받음으로써 그분의 죽음 안으로 침례를 받았음을 너희가 모르느냐?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 그러므로 우리가 죽음 안으로 들어가는 침례를 통하여 그분과 함께 장사되노라. 이는 그리스도께서 아버지의 영광을 통하여 죽은 자들로부터 일으켜지신 것같이, 바로 그렇게 우리도 생명의 새로움 가운데 살아가게 하려 함이라.
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 이는 우리가 그분의 죽음과 같은 모습으로 함께 심겼다면 우리가 또한 그분의 부활과 같은 모습으로 될 것이기 때문이라.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 이것을 알거니와 우리의 옛사람은 그분과 함께 십자가에 못 박히나니, 이는 그 죄의 몸이 멸망받게 하려 함이요, 이후로는 우리가 죄를 섬기지 않게 하려 함이라.
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 이는 죽은 자가 죄에서 자유롭게 되기 때문이라.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 이제 우리가 그리스도와 함께 죽어 있다면 우리가 또한 그분과 함께 살게 될 것을 우리는 믿느니라.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 그리스도께서 죽은 자들로부터 일으켜지시어 더 이상 죽지 아니하시는 것을 아노니, 사망은 더 이상 그분을 지배하지 못하느니라.
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 이는 그분께서 죽으신 것은 친히 죄를 향해 한 번 죽으신 것이나 그분께서 살아 계시는 것은 친히 하나님께 살아 계시는 것이기 때문이라.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 마찬가지로 너희도 너희 자신을 정녕 죄에게는 죽은 자로 간주하되 우리 주이신 예수 그리스도를 통하여 하나님께는 산 자로 간주하라.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 그러므로 죄가 너희의 죽을 수밖에 없는 몸 안에서 군림하지 못하게 하라. 이는 너희로 하여금 그 몸의 정욕들 안에서 죄에게 순종하지 않게 하려 함이라.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 또한 너희는 너희의 지체들을 불의의 도구들로 죄에게 내어주지 말라. 오직 죽은 자들로부터 살아난 자들로서 하나님께 너희 자신을 내어 드리고, 너희의 지체들을 하나님께 의의 도구들로 내어 드리라.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 이는 죄가 너희를 지배할 수 없을 것이기 때문이니, 너희가 율법 아래 있지 아니하고 오직 은혜 아래 있기 때문이라.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 그렇다면 무엇이냐? 우리가 율법 아래 있지 아니하고 오직 은혜 아래 있으므로 우리가 죄를 짓겠느냐? 하나님께서 금하시기를 바라노라.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 너희가 사망에 이르는 죄의 종이든지 의에 이르는 순종의 종이든지 간에 너희가 스스로를 종들로 내어 주면 너희가 순종하는 자에게 그의 종들이 된다는 것을 너희가 모르느냐?
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 그러나 너희가 죄의 종들이었으나 너희에게 전달된 그 교리의 본을 너희가 마음으로부터 순종하였으니, 하나님께 감사가 드려지기를 바라노라.
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 그렇다면 죄로부터 자유롭게 된 너희는 의의 종들이 되었느니라.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 너희 육신의 연약함 때문에 내가 사람들의 방식을 따라 말하노라. 이는 너희가 너희의 지체들을 종들로 불결함에 내어 주고 죄악에도 내어 주어 죄악에 이른 것과 같기 때문이니, 이제는 바로 의에 너희의 지체들을 종들로 내어 주어 이처럼 거룩함에 이르라.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 이는 너희가 죄의 종들이었을 때 너희가 의로부터 자유로웠기 때문이라.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 너희가 이제는 수치스러워하는 그러한 것들로 너희가 그때는 무슨 열매를 얻었더냐? 이는 그러한 것들의 끝은 사망이기 때문이라.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 그러나 이제 너희가 죄로부터 자유롭게 되고 하나님께 종들이 되어 거룩함에 이르는 너희의 열매를 얻었으니, 그 끝은 영원한 생명이라.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 이는 죄의 대가는 사망이요, 반면에 하나님의 선물은 우리 주이신 예수 그리스도를 통한 영생이기 때문이라.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
