1 그리고 지프족들이 기브아에 있는 사울에게 와서 말하기를, “다윗이 여시몬 앞에 있는 하킬라 언덕 속에 자기 몸을 숨기고 있지 아니하나이까?” 하였더라.
1 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?
2 그때 사울이 일어나 지프 광야 가운데 있는 다윗을 찾으려고 삼천 명의 선정된 이스라엘 남자들을 자신과 함께 대동한 채 지프 광야로 내려갔더라.
2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
3 그리고 사울이 도중에 여시몬 앞에 있는 하킬라 언덕 속에 진을 쳤더라. 그러나 다윗은 광야 가운데 거하였으니, 사울이 광야 가운데로 자신을 따라온 것을 그가 보았더라.
3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
4 그러므로 다윗이 정탐꾼들을 내보내서, 확실히 사울이 왔음을 깨달았더라.
4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.
5 ¶ 그러자 다윗이 일어나 사울이 진을 친 장소로 왔더라. 그리고 다윗은 사울이 누워 있는 곳과 그의 군대 대장인, 넬의 아들 아브넬이 누워 있는 곳을 보았더라. 그런즉 사울은 참호 안에 누워 있었고, 백성은 그의 주위에 진을 쳤더라.
5 ¶ And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.
6 그때 다윗이 반응하여 히타이트족 아히멜렉과 스루야의 아들이자 요압의 형제인 아비샤이에게 이와 같은 말로 말하기를, “누가 나와 함께 진영으로 내려가서 사울에게로 가겠느냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 아비샤이가 말하기를, “제가 당신과 함께 내려가겠나이다.” 하였더라.
6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.
7 그렇게 하여 다윗과 아비샤이가 밤에 백성에게 이르렀더라. 그런데 보라, 사울이 참호 안에 잠든 채 누워 있었고 그의 창이 그의 베개 받침 쪽 땅바닥에 꽂혀 있었더라. 그러나 아브넬과 백성은 그의 주위에 누워 있었더라.
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.
8 그때 아비샤이가 다윗에게 말하기를, “하나님께서 당신의 원수를 이날 당신의 손안에 넘기셨나이다. 그러므로 이제 제가 당신께 간구하오니, 제가 그를 쳐서 그 창으로 단번에 땅에까지 꽂아 버리도록 허락하소서. 그리하면 제가 그를 두 번 치지 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라.
8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.
9 그러자 다윗이 아비샤이에게 말하기를, “그를 멸하지 말라. 그런즉 누가 주의 기름 부음 받은 자를 대적하여 자기 손을 앞으로 뻗고서도 죄과가 없을 수 있겠느냐?” 하였더라.
9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed, and be guiltless?
10 다윗이 덧붙여 이같이 말하였더라. “주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 주께서 그를 치시리라. 아니면 그의 날이 이르러 죽으리라. 또는 그가 전투로 내려가서 목숨을 잃으리라.
10 David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.
11 내가 주의 기름 부음 받은 자를 대적하여 나의 손을 앞으로 뻗는 것을 주께서 금하시기를 바라노라. 다만, 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 너는 지금 그의 베개 받침에 있는 창과 물통을 취하라. 그런 다음에 우리는 가자.”
11 The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.
12 그렇게 하여 다윗이 사울의 베개 받침에서 창과 물통을 챙기고 그들이 빠져 나갔는데 그것을 아무도 보지도 못하였고 그것을 알지도 못하였으며 아무도 깨어나지도 아니하였더라. 이는 그들이 다 잠들었기 때문이니, 주께로부터 깊은 잠이 그들에게 내려왔기 때문이라.
12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.
13 ¶ 그때 다윗이 다른 편으로 건너가서 멀리 떨어져 있는 한 언덕의 꼭대기에 섰으니, 그들 사이에는 크나큰 간격이 있었더라.
13 ¶ Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:
14 그리하여 다윗이 백성에게 소리치며 넬의 아들 아브넬에게 말하기를, “아브넬아, 네가 대답하지 아니하느냐?” 하였더라. 그때 아브넬이 대답하여 말하기를, “왕에게 소리치는 너는 누구냐?” 하였더라.
14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?
15 그러자 다윗이 아브넬에게 이같이 말하였더라. “너는 한 용맹한 남자가 아니냐? 그리고 이스라엘에서 너와 같은 자가 누가 있느냐? 그렇다면 어찌 너는 왕인 너의 군주를 지키지 아니하였느냐? 이는 백성 중 한 명이 너의 군주인 왕을 멸하려고 안으로 들어갔기 때문이라.
15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
16 네가 행한 이것이 좋지 아니하도다. 주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 너희가 너희의 주인이자 주의 기름 부음 받은 자를 지키지 아니하였으므로 너희는 죽어 마땅하도다. 그런즉 이제 왕의 창과, 그의 베개 받침에 있던 물통이 어디 있는지 보라.”
16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD'S anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.
17 그러자 사울이 다윗의 음성을 알고서 말하기를, “나의 아들 다윗아, 이것이 너의 목소리냐?” 하였더라. 이에 다윗이 말하기를, “오, 내 주 왕이여, 제 목소리니이다.” 하였더라.
17 And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.
18 이어서 그가 말하기를, “어찌 나의 주께서 이같이 자신의 종을 추격하시나이까? 그런즉 제가 무엇을 하였나이까? 또는 제 손안에 어떤 악이 있나이까?
18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?
19 그러므로 이제 제가 당신께 간구하오니, 내 주 왕께서는 자신의 종의 말들을 들어주소서. 만일 주께서 저를 대적하시어 당신을 격동시키셨다면 그분께서 봉헌물을 기꺼이 받아들이시리이다. 그러나 만일 그들이 사람들의 자녀들이라면, 그들이 주 앞에서 저주받기를 바라나이다. 이는 그들이 이날에 저를 주의 유산 가운데 거하는 것에서 몰아내며 말하기를, ‘가라. 다른 신들을 섬기라.’ 하였기 때문이니이다.
19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.
20 그러므로 이제 나의 피가 주의 얼굴 앞에서 땅에 떨어지지 않게 하소서. 이는 이스라엘 왕께서 마치 누군가 산들 속에서 자고새 한 마리를 사냥할 때처럼 벼룩 한 마리를 찾으려고 나오셨기 때문이니이다.”
20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.
21 ¶ 그때 사울이 말하기를, “내가 죄를 지었도다. 나의 아들 다윗아, 되돌아오라. 이는 내가 너에게 더 이상 해를 입히지 않을 것이기 때문이요, 나의 혼이 이날 너의 두 눈에 귀하게 여겨진 까닭이라. 보라, 내가 어리석은 짓을 하였고 지극히 크게 잘못을 범하였노라.” 하였더라.
21 ¶ Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
22 그러자 다윗이 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “왕의 창을 보소서! 그리고 청년들 중 한 명을 넘어오게 하시어 그것을 집어 가게 하소서.
22 And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
23 주께서 모든 사람에게 저마다 그의 의와 그의 신실함대로 돌려주시기를 바라나이다. 이는 주께서 오늘 나의 손안에 당신을 넘기셨으나, 나는 주의 기름 부음 받은 자를 대적하여 나의 손을 앞으로 뻗으려 하지 아니하였기 때문이니이다.
23 The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed.
24 그런즉 보소서, 당신의 생명이 이날에 나의 두 눈에 매우 각별하게 여겨졌듯이 나의 생명도 주의 두 눈에 이처럼 매우 각별하게 여겨지게 하시고 그분께서 나를 모든 환난에서 구출하게 하소서.”
24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.
25 그때 사울이 다윗에게 말하기를, “나의 아들 다윗아, 네가 복을 받기를 바라노라. 너는 위대한 일들도 행할 것이요, 또한 계속 승리하리라.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 다윗이 자기 길을 계속 갔으니, 사울은 자기 처소로 되돌아갔더라.
25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
