1 이때 베냐민에 속한 한 남자가 있었는데 그의 이름은 키시였고, 베냐민족으로 아피야의 자손이요, 베코랏의 자손이요, 즈롤의 자손이요, 아비엘의 아들이며, 막강하고 활력 있는 남자더라.
1 Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.
2 그리고 그에게는 한 아들이 있었는데, 그의 이름은 사울이며 빼어난 청년이요 준수한 자였더라. 그리고 이스라엘 자녀들 가운데 그보다 더 준수한 인물은 없었더라. 그는 백성의 누구보다 자신의 양어깨 위만큼 더 컸더라.
2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
3 그런데 사울의 아버지인 키시의 나귀들이 분실되었더라. 그리하여 키시가 자신의 아들 사울에게 말하기를, “이제 종들 중 한 명을 너와 함께 데리고 일어나 가서 나귀들을 찾으라.” 하였더라.
3 And the asses of Kish Saul's father were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with thee, and arise, go seek the asses.
4 그런즉 그가 에프라임산을 두루 다녔고, 샬리샤 지역을 두루 다녔으나 그들이 그것들을 발견하지 못하였더라. 그때 그들이 샬림 지역을 두루 다녔는데 거기에도 그것들이 없었더라. 그러고 나서 그가 베냐민족들의 지역을 두루 다녔으나 그들이 그것들을 발견하지 못하였더라.
4 And he passed through mount Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not.
5 그리고 그들이 주프 지역으로 왔을 때 사울이 자신과 함께한 자기 종에게 말하기를, “오라, 그런즉 우리가 되돌아가자. 나의 아버지께서 나귀들을 염려하시는 것을 그치고 우리를 걱정하실까 함이라.” 하였더라.
5 And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses, and take thought for us.
6 그러자 그가 그에게 말하기를, “이제 보소서, 이 도시 안에 하나님의 사람이 있는데 그는 존귀한 사람이니이다. 그가 말하는 모든 것이 반드시 일어나니이다. 이제 우리가 거기로 가는 것을 허락하소서. 어쩌면 그가 우리가 가야 할 우리의 길을 우리에게 제시할 수도 있나이다.” 하였더라.
6 And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go.
7 그때 사울이 그의 종에게 말하기를, “그러나 보라, 만일 우리가 간다면 우리가 그 사람에게 무엇을 가져가야겠느냐? 우리의 그릇들 안에는 빵이 바닥났고 하나님의 사람에게 가져갈 증여물이 하나도 없기 때문이라. 우리에게 무엇이 있느냐?” 하였더라.
7 Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we?
8 그러자 종이 사울에게 다시 대답하여 말하기를, “보소서, 제가 은 일 셰켈의 사분의 일을 여기 제 손에 가지고 있나이다. 그것을 제가 하나님의 사람에게 주면서 우리의 길을 우리에게 알려 달라고 하겠나이다.” 하였더라.
8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way.
9 (예전에는 이스라엘에서 어떤 사람이 하나님께 여쭈러 갈 때 그가 이같이 말하였으니, “오라, 그런즉 우리가 선견자에게 가자.” 하였더라. 이는 지금 예언자라 불리는 자가 예전에는 선견자라 불렸기 때문이라.)
9 (Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.)
10 그때 사울이 그의 종에게 말하기를, “잘 말하였도다. 오라, 우리가 가자.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 그들이 하나님의 사람이 있던 도시로 갔더라.
10 Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.
11 ¶ 그리고 그들이 도시를 향하여 언덕으로 올라가는 동안 그들이 물을 길으러 나가고 있는 젊은 처자들을 발견하였으니, 그들에게 말하기를, “여기에 그 선견자가 있느냐?” 하였더라.
11 ¶ And as they went up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, Is the seer here?
12 그러자 그 처자들이 그들에게 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “그가 있나이다. 보소서, 그가 당신들보다 앞에 있나니, 이제 서두르소서. 이는 그가 오늘 도시에 왔기 때문이요, 오늘 높은 처소 안에서 백성의 희생제가 있기 때문이니이다.
12 And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place:
13 당신들이 도시 안으로 들어서자마자 그가 식사하러 높은 처소로 올라가기 전에 당신들은 곧바로 그를 발견할 것이니이다. 그가 희생 제물을 축복하므로 백성이 그가 올 때까지는 먹지 않으며 나중에서야 초대된 자들이 먹기 때문이니이다. 그러므로 이제 당신들은 올라가소서. 이는 이때쯤 당신들이 그를 발견할 것이기 때문이니이다.”
13 As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he come, because he doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him.
14 그리하여 그들이 도시 안으로 올라갔는데 그들이 도시 안에 들어섰을 때, 보라, 사무엘이 높은 처소로 올라가기 위해 그들 맞은편에서 나왔더라.
14 And they went up into the city: and when they were come into the city, behold, Samuel came out against them, for to go up to the high place.
15 ¶ 이제 사울이 오기 하루 전날 주께서 사무엘의 귀에 대고 그에게 알리시며 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
15 ¶ Now the LORD had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying,
16 “내일 이때쯤에 내가 너에게 한 남자를 베냐민 지역에서 보내겠노라. 그리하면 너는 그에게 기름을 부어 나의 백성 이스라엘을 다스리는 대장이 되게 할지니, 그로 하여금 필리스티아인들의 손에서 나의 백성을 구원하게 하려 함이라. 이는 내가 나의 백성을 돌아보았기 때문이요, 그들의 부르짖음이 나에게 도달하였기 때문이라.”
16 To morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
17 이에 사무엘이 사울을 보았을 때 주께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “내가 너에게 말했던 그 남자를 보라! 이 남자가 나의 백성을 통치하리라.” 하셨느니라.
17 And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people.
18 그때 사울이 성문 안에서 사무엘에게 가까이 다가가 말하기를, “제가 당신께 간구하오니, 그 선견자의 집이 어디에 있는지 제게 알려 주소서.” 하였더라.
18 Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer's house is.
19 그러자 사무엘이 사울에게 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “내가 그 선견자니라. 나보다 먼저 높은 처소로 올라가라. 이는 너희가 오늘 나와 함께 먹을 것이기 때문이라. 내일은 내가 너를 가게 하겠으니, 너의 마음속에 있는 모든 것을 너에게 알려 주겠노라.
19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me to day, and to morrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
20 그리고 삼 일 전에 분실된 너의 나귀들로 말하자면, 네 생각을 그것들 위에 두지 말라. 이는 그것들이 발견되었기 때문이라. 그런즉 이스라엘의 모든 열망이 누구 위에 있느냐? 너와 너의 아버지의 가문 전체 위에 있지 아니하냐?”
20 And as for thine asses that were lost three days ago, set not thy mind on them; for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father's house?
21 그러자 사울이 대답하여 말하기를, “제가 이스라엘 지파들 중 가장 작은 지파 출신으로 베냐민족이 아니니이까? 그리고 제 가족은 베냐민 지파의 모든 족속들 중 가장 작지 아니하니이까? 그럴진대 어찌 당신께서 제게 이같이 말씀하시나이까?” 하였더라.
21 And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
22 이에 사무엘이 사울과 그의 종을 데려다가 그들을 접견실 안으로 인도하였으니, 그들을 약 삼십 명쯤 되는 초대받은 자들 가운데 제일가는 위치에 앉게 하였더라.
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the parlour, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden, which were about thirty persons.
23 그러면서 사무엘이 요리사에게 말하기를, “내가 너에게 주었고 내가 너에게 말하기를, ‘그것을 네 곁에 따로 떼어 놓으라.’ 하였던 그 몫을 가져오라.” 하였더라.
23 And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it by thee.
24 그러자 요리사가 어깨와 그 위에 붙어 있던 것을 들어 올려 그것을 사울 앞에 차려 놓았더라. 그러자 사무엘이 말하기를, “챙겨 둔 것을 보라! 그것을 네 앞에 놓고 먹으라. 이는 내가 말하기를, ‘내가 백성을 초대하였도다.’ 한 이래로 이때까지 너를 위하여 그것이 간직되었기 때문이라.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 사울이 그날 사무엘과 함께 먹었더라.
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left! set it before thee, and eat: for unto this time hath it been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
25 ¶ 이윽고 그들이 높은 처소에서 도시 안으로 내려왔을 때 사무엘이 그 집 꼭대기에서 사울과 대화를 하였더라.
25 ¶ And when they were come down from the high place into the city, Samuel communed with Saul upon the top of the house.
26 그런 다음에 그들이 일찍 일어났더라. 그런즉 그날의 여명이 터 올 무렵 이러한 일이 있었으니, 사무엘이 사울을 그 집 꼭대기로 부르며 말하기를 “내가 너를 전송할 수 있도록 채비를 하라.” 하였더라. 그러자 사울이 일어났으니, 그들, 곧 사울과 사무엘 그 둘이 모두 나갔더라.
26 And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.
27 그런즉 그들이 도시 끝으로 내려가고 있는 동안 사무엘이 사울에게 말하기를, “종에게 우리보다 앞서가라고 분부하라. (그리하여 그가 갔더라.) 그러나 너는 내가 하나님의 말씀을 너에게 제시할 수 있도록 잠시 동안 서 있으라.” 하였더라.
27 And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.
