1 이 일들이 있은 후에 바울은 아테네에서 떠나 고린도에 도착하였더라.

After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

2 그리고 폰투스에서 태어나 아퀼라란 이름으로 불리며 최근 이탈리아에서 온 어떤 유대인 한 명을 그의 아내인 프리스킬라와 함께 만났더라. (이는 클라우디우스가 모든 유대인들에게 로마에서 떠나라고 명령하였기 때문이라.) 이에 바울이 그들에게로 갔더라.

And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.

3 그리고 그가 같은 기술직에 있었기에 그는 그들과 함께 거하며 일하였더라. 이는 그들의 직업으로 보면 그들이 천막을 만드는 자들이었기 때문이라.

And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

4 그러면서 그는 안식일마다 회당 안에서 변론하였고 유대인들과 헬라인들을 설득하였더라.

And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

5 그리고 실라와 디모데우스가 마케도니아에서 오자 바울은 영 안에서 압박을 받아 유대인들에게 예수님께서 그리스도이신 것을 증언하였더라.

And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

6 그러다가 그들이 스스로 반론을 제기하고 신성 모독을 하자 그는 자기 의상을 털며 그들에게 말하기를, “너희의 피가 너희 자신의 머리 위에 임하기를 바라노라. 나는 깨끗하니, 이제부터 나는 이방인들에게 가겠노라.” 하였더라.

And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

7 ¶ 그런 다음에 그가 거기를 떠나 유스투스란 이름으로 불리며 하나님을 경배하는 어떤 사람 한 명의 집 안으로 들어갔더라. 그의 집은 회당과 바짝 붙어 있었더라.

¶ And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

8 그리하여 회당의 최고 치리자인 크리스푸스가 그의 온 집과 더불어 주를 믿었더라. 이어서 말씀을 들은 고린도인들 중 많은 이들이 믿고 침례를 받았더라.

And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

9 그때 주께서 밤중에 현시를 통하여 바울에게 전하셨느니라. “무서워하지 말라. 다만 전하고 자신의 침묵을 지키지 말라.

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

10 이는 내가 너와 함께 있으며 내가 이 도시 안에 많은 백성을 소유하고 있으므로 아무도 너를 다치게 하려고 너를 습격하지 못할 것이기 때문이라.”

For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

11 그리하여 그가 그들 사이에서 하나님의 말씀을 가르치면서 일 년 육 개월을 거기에 계속 있었더라.

And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12 ¶ 이후에 갈리오가 아카이아의 속주 총독이 되자, 유대인들이 한뜻이 되어 바울을 대적하여 내란을 일으켰고 그를 심판석으로 데려가서

¶ And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

13 말하기를, “이 사내가 율법을 거슬러 하나님을 경배하라고 사람들을 설득하나이다.” 하였더라.

Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

14 그런 다음에 바울이 이제 막 그의 입을 열려고 하자 갈리오가 유대인들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “오, 너희, 유대인들아, 만일 이것이 부당한 일이나 사악한 음란함에 관한 사안이라면 내가 너희를 담당해야 할 이유가 되었으리라.

And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

15 그러나 만일 그것이 용어들과 명칭들에 관한 것과 너희 율법에 관한 어떤 문제라면 너희가 그것을 돌아보라. 이는 내가 그러한 사안들에 관해서는 판관이 되고 싶지 않기 때문이라.”

But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

16 그리하여 그가 그들을 심판석에서 내쫓았더라.

And he drave them from the judgment seat.

17 그때 모든 헬라인들이 회당의 최고 치리자인 소스데네스를 데려다가 심판석 앞에서 그를 때렸더라. 그리고 갈리오는 그런 것들 중 아무것도 개의치 않았더라.

Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

18 ¶ 그리고 이 일 후에도 바울은 그곳에 상당히 오래 더 머물렀다가 형제들에게 그가 작별을 고하였고 거기에서 시리아로 항해하였는데 프리스킬라와 아퀼라가 그와 함께하였더라. 그가 어떤 서원을 했었기에 켄크레아에서 그의 머리를 깎았더라.

¶ And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.

19 그리하여 그가 에베소에 왔으며 그들을 거기에 남겨 두었으나 그 자신은 회당 안으로 들어가서 유대인들과 변론하였더라.

And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

20 그들이 바울에게 자신들과 더 오랜 시간을 머물길 간절히 청하였을 때 그는 동조하지 않았더라.

When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;

21 그러나 그들에게 고별인사를 하며 말하기를, “나는 어떤 방식으로든지 이 다가오는 명절을 반드시 예루살렘에서 지켜야만 하느니라. 그러나 만일 하나님께서 원하신다면, 내가 너희에게 다시 되돌아오겠노라.” 하였더라. 그리하여 그가 에베소를 떠나 항해하였더라.

But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

22 그러고 나서 그가 카이사랴에 내렸다가 올라가서 교회에 문안한 후에 그는 안티오크로 내려갔더라.

And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

23 그리하여 그가 얼마의 시간을 거기서 보낸 뒤에 그는 떠났으며, 갈라디아와 프루기아의 온 지방을 차례로 다니며 모든 제자들을 강건하게 하였더라.

And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

24 ¶ 이후에 아폴로란 이름으로 불리며 알렉산드리아에서 태어나고 말이 유창한 남자이며 성경 기록들에 뛰어난 어떤 유대인 한 명이 에베소에 왔더라.

¶ And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

25 이 사람이 주의 길 안에서 가르침을 받았더라. 그런즉 영 안에서 열정적인 그가 주에 관한 것들을 부지런히 전하고 가르쳤는데 오직 요한의 침례만 알았더라.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

26 그리고 그가 담대하게 회당 안에서 전하기 시작하였더라. 아퀼라와 프리스킬라가 그의 말을 들은 후에 그들이 그를 그들에게 데려갔으며 하나님의 길을 그에게 더 완전하고 자세하게 설명하였더라.

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

27 이에 그가 아카이아로 건너가려는 마음을 먹자 형제들이 글을 적어 제자들에게 그를 받아들일 것을 권면하였더라. 그가 오자 은혜를 통하여 믿었던 자들을 크게 도왔더라.

And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

28 이는 그가 성경 기록들로 예수님께서 그리스도이심을 공개적으로 보임으로써 매우 능력 있게 유대인들을 확신시켰기 때문이라.

For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
