1 그러고 나서 우리가 이탈리아로 항해할 것이 결정되자 그들은 아우구스투스 부대의 한 백부장이자 율리우스란 이름으로 불리는 이에게 바울과 그 밖의 죄수들을 넘겼더라.

And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.

2 그런즉 아시아의 연안을 따라 항해하기로 되어 있으므로 아드라뭇티움의 선박 안으로 들어간 뒤에 우리가 출항하였으며 데살로니가의 마케도니아인인 아리스타쿠스라고 하는 이가 우리와 함께 하였더라.

And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

3 그리고 다음 날 우리는 시돈에 닿았더라. 또한 율리우스는 바울을 정중하게 대하였고 그에게 그의 친구들에게로 가서 스스로 활력을 되찾을 수 있는 자유를 주었더라.

And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

4 이후에 우리가 거기서부터 출항한 후에 우리는 사이프러스 아래로 항해하였으니, 바람들이 역방향이었기 때문이라.

And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

5 그리고 우리가 실리시아와 팜필리아의 바다 너머로 항해한 후에 우리는 루키아의 도시인 무라에 이르렀더라.

And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

6 그리고 거기에서 백부장이 이탈리아로 항해하고 있는 알렉산드리아의 선박을 발견하였더라. 그리하여 그가 우리를 그 안에 태웠더라.

And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.

7 그리고 우리가 많은 날들을 천천히 항해하여 가까스로 크니두스 맞은편에 이르자, 바람이 우리를 내버려 두지 아니하여 우리는 살모네 맞은편 너머 크레타 아래로 항해하였더라.

And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

8 그리고 간신히 그곳을 지나서 아름다운 항구들이라 불리는 곳에 다다랐는데 그곳에서는 라세아 도시가 가까웠더라.

And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

9 이제 많은 시간이 소요된 후에, 이미 금식 절기가 막 지났기에 당장은 항해하는 것이 위험해지자 바울이 그들에게 권고하여

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

10 그들에게 말하기를, “선생님들이여, 이번 항해에서는 화물과 선박뿐만 아니라 우리의 생명들까지도 다치게 되고 많은 손해가 생길 것을 제가 알았나이다.” 하였더라.

And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

11 그럼에도 불구하고 백부장은 바울에 의하여 언급된 그런 것들보다는 선장과 선주의 말을 더 믿었더라.

Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

12 그리고 그 항구가 겨울을 나기에 적합하지 않았기에 과반수 역시 그곳을 떠나자고 충고하였으니, 그들이 어떤 방식으로든지 페니케까지 도달하여 거기에서 겨울을 나자는 것이었더라. 그곳은 크레타의 항구로 남서쪽과 북서쪽을 향하여 놓여 있더라.

And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

13 그리고 남풍이 순하게 불자 그들은 자신들의 목적을 달성하였다고 짐작하여 그곳에서 벗어나서 그들이 크레타를 옆에 바짝 끼고 항해하였더라.

And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

14 그러나 머지않아 유로클리돈이라 불리는 광포한 바람이 그 선박을 거슬러 일어났더라.

But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

15 그리하여 선박이 휩쓸려 바람 속으로 항진할 수 없자 우리는 그녀를 표류하는 대로 두었더라.

And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

16 그런 다음에 클라우다라 불리는 어떤 섬 아래로 쓸려가던 우리는 거룻배를 건지고자 많은 노력을 들였더라.

And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

17 그들이 거룻배를 건져 올리자 그들은 구명줄들을 사용하여 선박의 아래를 단단하게 묶었더라. 그리고 그들은 유사 지대 속에 빠질까 두려워하며 급히 돛을 내렸으며 그대로 밀려갔더라.

Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

18 그리하여 우리가 광풍에 의하여 극도로 요동치게 된 다음 날 그들은 선박을 가볍게 하였더라.

And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

19 그러고 나서 셋째 날에 우리는 우리 손으로 선박의 삭구를 내버렸더라.

And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

20 이후에 여러 날들 동안 해도 별들도 나타나지 않았는데 작지 않은 광풍이 우리 위를 덮치자 우리가 구원받을 것이라는 소망이 그때 전부 사라져 버렸더라.

And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

21 그러나 오랫동안 먹지 못한 뒤에 바울이 앞으로 나와 그들 한가운데 서서 이같이 말하였더라. “선생님들이여, 당신들은 제 말을 듣고 이런 피해와 손실을 얻지 않도록 크레타에서 벗어나지 않았어야 했나이다.

But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

22 그런즉 이제 제가 당신들에게 권면하노니, 좋은 기운을 내소서. 이는 당신들 가운데 어떤 사람의 생명도 전혀 손실이 없을 것이며 오직 선박에만 손실이 있을 것이기 때문이니이다.

And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.

23 이는 제가 속해 있고 제가 섬기는 하나님의 천사가 이 밤에 제 곁에 서서

For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

24 말씀하시기를, ‘바울아, 두려워하지 말라. 너는 반드시 카이사르 앞으로 인도되어야 하느니라. 그런즉 보라, 하나님께서 너와 함께 항해하는 모든 자들을 너에게 주셨노라.’ 하셨기 때문이니이다.

Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

25 그러므로 선생님들이여, 좋은 기운을 내소서. 이는 제가 하나님을 믿나니 그분께서 제게 말씀하신 그대로 될 것이기 때문이니이다.

Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

26 하지만 우리가 떠밀려 반드시 어떤 한 섬에 닿을 것이니이다.”

Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

27 그러나 십사 일째 밤이 되어 우리가 아드리아 해에서 위아래로 표류하고 있었을 때 선원들은 자정쯤에 자신들이 어떤 지방에 가까이 다가간 것을 가늠하였더라.

But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

28 그리하여 수심을 쟀는데 그것이 이십 패덤8인 것을 발견하였더라. 그리고 그들이 조금 더 갔을 때 다시 수심을 쟀고 그것이 십오 패덤인 것을 그들이 발견하였더라.

And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

29 그때 우리가 암초들에 부딪힐까 두려워하였으므로 그들은 배의 뒷부분에서 네 개의 닻들을 던졌고 낮이 되기를 염원하였더라.

Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

30 이윽고 선원들이 선박에서 막 도망하려고 하는 동안 그들이 선수에서 닻들을 던지는 척하였고, 그들이 거룻배를 바닷속에 내렸을 때,

And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

31 바울이 백부장에게와 군인들에게 말하기를, “이들이 선박 안에 거하지 않는다면 당신들은 구원받을 수 없나이다.” 하였더라.

Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

32 그때 군인들이 거룻배의 굵은 밧줄들을 끊어 냈고 그녀를 떨어뜨려 버렸더라.

Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.

33 그리하여 날이 새는 동안 바울이 그들 모두에게 음식을 들 것을 간청하며 이같이 말하였더라. “당신들이 지체하며 계속 금식하고 아무것도 들지 않은 지 이날로 십사 일째이니이다.

And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

34 이러한 이유로 제가 당신들에게 음식을 좀 들 것을 간구하나이다. 이는 당신들 중 누구의 머리에서도 머리카락 한 올 떨어지지 않을 것이므로 이것이 당신들의 건강을 위한 것이기 때문이니이다.”

Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

35 그리하여 그가 그처럼 말한 후에 그는 빵을 취하여 그들 모두의 면전에서 하나님께 감사들을 드렸더라. 그리고 그가 그것을 찢은 후에 그는 먹기 시작하였더라.

And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

36 그때 그들 모두가 좋은 기운을 냈고 그들 또한 음식을 좀 먹었더라.

Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

37 그리고 그 선박 안에 있던 우리는 모두 이백칠십육 명의 혼들이었더라.

And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

38 그리하여 그들이 충분하게 먹은 후에 그들은 선박을 가볍게 하였고 바닷속으로 밀을 던져 버렸더라.

And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.

39 이윽고 낮이 되었을 때 그들은 육지인지 몰랐더라. 그러나 그들이 바다 기슭에서 어떤 작은 해만 하나를 발견하였고, 가능하다면 그들은 선박을 그곳 안으로 밀어 넣을 생각을 갖게 되었더라.

And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

40 그리하여 그들이 닻들을 끌어올린 후에, 그들은 스스로 바다에 뛰어들었고 키를 묶은 것들을 풀었으며 바람을 따라 중심 돛을 위로 들어 올렸고 바다 기슭을 향하도록 하였더라.

And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

41 그러다가 두 바다가 만난 지점으로 빠져 들어갔기에 그것들이 선박을 좌초시켰더라. 그리하여 배의 앞부분은 단단히 걸려 움직이지 못한 채로 남아 있었으나 후미 부분은 거센 파도들에 부서졌더라.

And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

42 그러자 군인들의 계획은 죄수들을 죽이는 것이었으니, 그들 중 누구도 헤엄쳐 나가서 탈출하지 못하게 하려 함이었더라.

And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.

43 그러나 백부장은 바울을 구원하려는 의향으로 그들의 결심으로부터 수감자들을 지켰더라. 그러면서 수영할 수 있는 자들은 스스로 먼저 바닷속으로 뛰어들어 육지로 오르라고 명령하였더라.

But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

44 그리고 나머지 사람들 중 일부는 판자들에, 일부는 선박의 파편들에 올랐으며, 그렇게 하여 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들이 육지로 모두 안전하게 피신하였더라.

And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
