1 다음으로 아비멜렉 이후에 이스라엘을 수호하기 위하여 일어난 이가 있었으니, 잇사칼에게 속한 한 남자요, 도도의 자손이요, 푸아흐의 아들인 톨라니라. 그리고 그는 에프라임산 속에 있는 샤밀에서 거하였더라.
1 And after Abimelech there arose to defend Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.
2 그런즉 그가 이십삼 년 동안 이스라엘을 재판하였다가 죽어서 샤밀에 장사되었더라.
2 And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.
3 ¶ 다음으로 그의 뒤를 이어 길르앗족 야일이 일어났으니, 이십이 년 동안 이스라엘을 재판하였더라.
3 ¶ And after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, and judged Israel twenty and two years.
4 그리고 그에게는 삼십 명의 아들들이 있었는데 그들은 삼십 마리의 새끼 수나귀들을 탔고, 그들은 삼십 개의 도시들을 보유하였으니, 그것들이 하봇야일이라 불린 것이 오늘날까지 이르니라. 그 도시들은 길르앗 지역에 있느니라.
4 And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havothjair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
5 이후에 야일이 죽어서 카몬에 장사되었더라.
5 And Jair died, and was buried in Camon.
6 ¶ 이후에 이스라엘 자녀들이 주의 목전에서 다시 악을 행하여 바알들과 아슈타롯과 시리아의 신들과 지돈의 신들과 모압의 신들과 암몬의 후손들의 신들과 필리스티아인들의 신들을 섬겼으니, 주를 저버리고 그분을 섬기지 아니하였더라.
6 ¶ And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.
7 그러자 주의 분노가 이스라엘을 대적하여 뜨거워졌으니, 그분께서 필리스티아인들의 손안에 그들을 파셨고, 암몬의 후손들의 손안에도 파셨더라.
7 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.
8 그런즉 그 해에 그들이 이스라엘 자녀들을 핍박하고 압제하였으니, 길르앗 내에 아모리족들의 지역 가운데 요르단 건너편에 있던 모든 이스라엘 자녀들을 십팔 년 동안 압제하였더라.
8 And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9 이뿐만 아니라 암몬의 후손들이 유다도 대적하고 베냐민도 대적하며 에프라임의 집도 대적하여 싸우고자 요르단을 넘어갔더라. 그렇게 하여 이스라엘이 괴로워하였더라.
9 Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.
10 ¶ 그런즉 이스라엘 자녀들이 주께 부르짖으며 말씀드리기를, “저희가 당신을 대적하여 죄를 지었나이다. 이는 저희가 우리 하나님을 저버린 까닭이요, 또한 바알들을 섬긴 까닭이니이다.” 하였더라.
10 ¶ And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.
11 그러자 주께서 이스라엘 자녀들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “내가 너희를 이집트인들과 아모리족들과 암몬의 후손들과 필리스티아인들로부터 구출하지 아니하였느냐?
11 And the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
12 지돈인들과 아말렉족들과 마온족들도 너희를 압제하였는데 너희가 나에게 부르짖었을 때 내가 너희를 그들의 손에서 구출하였느니라.
12 The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.
13 그럼에도 너희가 나를 저버렸고 다른 신들을 섬겼도다. 이러한 이유로 나는 너희를 더 이상 구출하지 아니하겠노라.
13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.
14 가서 너희가 선택한 신들에게 부르짖으라. 그들로 하여금 너희의 환란의 때에 너희를 구출하게 하라.”
14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
15 ¶ 그러자 이스라엘 자녀들이 주께 말씀드리기를, “저희가 죄를 지었나이다. 당신께서 보시기에 좋은 것은 무엇이나 저희에게 친히 행하소서. 저희가 당신께 간구하오니, 오로지 이날만은 저희를 구출하여 주시옵소서.” 하였더라.
15 ¶ And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.
16 그러면서 그들이 자기들 가운데서 타국 신들을 치워 버렸고 주를 섬겼더라. 그러자 그분의 혼이 이스라엘의 가련함으로 인하여 비통해하셨더라.
16 And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
17 그때 암몬의 후손들이 함께 모여 길르앗에 주둔하였더라. 그리고 이스라엘 자녀들도 자기들끼리 함께 회동하여 미즈페에 주둔하였더라.
17 Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.
18 그러면서 백성과 길르앗의 통치자들이 서로 말하기를, “암몬의 후손들을 대적하여 싸움을 시작할 자는 어떤 사람이냐? 그는 길르앗의 모든 거주자들을 거느릴 수장이 되리라.” 하였더라.
18 And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
