1 그때 여룹바알, 곧 기드온과 그와 함께 있던 모든 백성은 일찍 일어나서 하롯의 샘물 옆에 진을 쳤더라. 그렇게 하여 미디안족들의 군대는 모레의 언덕 옆인 그들의 북편에 있는 골짜기 가운데 있었더라.
1 Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2 이윽고 주께서 기드온에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너와 함께한 백성의 손안에 미디안족들을 넘겨주기에는 그들이 나에게 너무 많도다. 이는 이스라엘이 나를 대적하여 스스로 과시하며 말하기를, ‘나 자신의 손이 나를 구원하였도다.’ 하지 않게 하려 함이라.
2 And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
3 그러므로 이제 가서 백성의 귀에 반포하며 말하기를, ‘누구든지 두렵고 무서운 자, 그는 되돌아가고 길르앗산에서 일찍 떠날지어다.’ 하라.” 그리하여 백성 중에서 되돌아간 자는 이만 이천 명이요, 남은 자는 일만 명이었더라.
3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
4 그러고 나서 주께서 기드온에게 말씀하시기를, “백성이 아직도 너무 많도다. 그들을 데리고 물로 내려가라. 그리하면 내가 거기서 너를 위하여 그들을 가려내겠노라. 그리하면 이러한 일이 일어나리니, 내가 너에게 말하기를, ‘이 자가 너와 함께 가리라.’ 하는 자, 바로 그가 너와 함께 가리라. 누구든지 내가 너에게 말하기를, ‘이 자는 너와 함께 가지 아니하리라.’ 하는 자, 바로 그는 가지 아니하리라.” 하셨느니라.
4 And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
5 그렇게 하여 그가 백성을 데리고 물로 내려갔더라. 그러자 주께서 기드온에게 말씀하시기를, “마치 개가 핥듯이 물을 자기 혀로 핥는 자마다 너는 그를 따로 떼어 놓을지니라. 마찬가지로 물을 마시려고 자신의 두 무릎을 꿇고 엎드리는 자마다 그렇게 할지니라.” 하셨느니라.
5 So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.
6 그러자 자기들의 손을 자기들의 입에 갖다 대고 핥은 자들의 수는 삼백 명의 남자들이었더라. 반면에 백성의 나머지는 전부 물을 마시려고 자기들의 무릎을 꿇고 엎드렸더라.
6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.
7 그런즉 주께서 기드온에게 말씀하시기를, “물을 핥았던 삼백 명의 남자들로 내가 너희를 구원할 것이요, 너의 손안에 미디안족들을 넘기겠노라. 그런즉 다른 모든 이들은 각각 자기 처소로 가게 하라.” 하셨느니라.
7 And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
8 그렇게 하여 백성이 그들의 손에 먹을거리들과 그들의 나팔들을 취하였더라. 그리고 그가 이스라엘의 나머지 모든 사람들을 각 사람마다 자기 천막으로 보냈으며, 그 삼백 명의 남자들은 그대로 두었더라. 그리고 미디안 군대는 그의 밑에 있는 골짜기 가운데 있었더라.
8 So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9 ¶ 이윽고 바로 그날 밤 이러한 일이 있었으니, 주께서 그에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “일어나라. 너는 그 군대로 내려가라. 이는 내가 미디안 군대를 너의 손안에 넘겨주었기 때문이라.
9 ¶ And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
10 그러나 만일 네가 내려가기가 두렵다면 너는 너의 종 푸라를 데리고 그 군대로 내려가라.
10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:
11 그리하면 너는 그들이 말하는 것을 들으리라. 그러고 난 후에 너의 두 손이 그 군대로 내려갈 힘을 얻게 되리라.” 그때 그가 자기 종 푸라와 함께 내려갔으니, 그 군대에 있던 무장된 남자들의 바깥쪽에 이르렀더라.
11 And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.
12 그러자 미디안족들과 아말렉족들과 모든 동방의 후손들이 골짜기를 따라 누워 있었는데 풀무치들같이 허다하였더라. 그리고 그들의 낙타들도 무수하였으니, 해변가의 모래같이 허다하였더라.
12 And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
13 그런데 기드온이 왔을 때, 보라, 자기 동료에게 꿈을 들려주던 남자가 있어 말하기를, “보라, 내가 꿈을 꾸었는데, 보라, 둥글납작한 보리 빵 하나가 미디안 군대로 굴러 들어와 한 천막에 이르렀으니, 그것을 쳐서 그것이 쓰러졌고, 그것을 뒤집었더니 그 천막이 무너졌도다.” 하였더라.
13 And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
14 그러자 그의 동료가 대답하여 말하기를, “이것은 다름이 아니라 이스라엘의 남자이자 요아시의 아들인 기드온의 칼일 뿐이라. 이는 그의 손안에 하나님께서 미디안과 그 모든 군대를 넘기셨기 때문이라.” 하였더라.
14 And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.
15 ¶ 그러자 기드온이 그 꿈과 그것의 해석을 들려주는 말을 들었을 때 이와 같은 일이 있었으니, 그가 경배한 후에 이스라엘 군대로 되돌아가서 말하기를, “일어서라. 이는 주께서 너희 손안에 미디안 군대를 넘기셨기 때문이라.” 하였더라.
15 ¶ And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.
16 그런즉 그가 삼백 명의 남자들을 세 집단들로 나누었는데, 그가 각 사람의 손에 저마다 나팔을 하나씩 들려 주며 빈 물동이들을 주었고, 그 물동이들 안에는 등불들이 있었더라.
16 And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
17 그러면서 그가 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “나를 보고 똑같이 행하라. 그런즉 보라, 내가 진영 바깥쪽에 도착할 때 이러한 일이 있을지니, 내가 행한 대로 너희도 그렇게 할지니라.
17 And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.
18 내가 나팔을 불 때, 곧 나와 내 곁에 있는 모든 자들이 나팔을 부는 그때, 너희 또한 온 진영의 사면에서 저마다 나팔들을 불면서 말하기를, ‘주의 칼이요, 기드온의 칼이라.’ 하라.”
18 When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
19 ¶ 그렇게 하여 기드온과, 그와 함께 있던 백 명의 남자들이 중간 경점이 시작될 때 진영의 바깥쪽에 도착하였고, 저들은 막 새롭게 파수대를 배치하였더라. 그리하여 그들이 나팔들을 불고 자신들의 손에 있던 물동이들을 깨뜨렸더라.
19 ¶ So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.
20 그런즉 세 집단들이 나팔들을 불고 물동이들을 깨뜨렸으니, 그들의 왼손에는 등불들을 들고 그들의 오른손에는 나팔들을 들고 다 함께 불었더라. 그러면서 그들이 외치기를, “주의 칼이요, 기드온의 칼이라.” 하였더라.
20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
21 그러면서 그들이 모든 사람마다 진영 주위에 있는 자기 위치에 섰더라. 그러자 모든 군대가 달아났고 소리지르며 도망쳤더라.
21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.
22 그러고 나서 삼백 명이 나팔들을 불었더라. 그리고 주께서 모든 사람의 칼마다 자기 동료를 대적하도록 설정하셨으니, 심지어 모든 군대에 걸쳐 그리하셨더라. 이윽고 군대가 즈레랏에 있는 벧싯타로 도망쳤고 아벨므홀라의 경계로 향하였으며 탑밧에 이르렀더라.
22 And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath.
23 그러자 납탈리와 아셸과 므낫세에서 나온 이스라엘의 남자들이 자기들끼리 함께 모여 미디안족들을 추격하였더라.
23 And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.
24 ¶ 이에 기드온이 에프라임산 전체를 통틀어 전령들을 보내며 말하기를, “미디안족들을 대적하여 내려와서 벧바라와 요르단에 이르는 물들을 그들보다 먼저 점령하라.” 하였더라. 그때 에프라임의 모든 남자들이 자기들끼리 함께 모여 벧바라와 요르단에 이르는 물들을 점령하였더라.
24 ¶ And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan.
25 그러자 그들이 미디안족들의 두 통치자들인 오렙과 즈엡을 붙잡았더라. 그런 다음에 그들이 오렙을 오렙 바위 위에서 살해하였고, 즈엡은 그들이 즈엡의 포도즙 틀에서 살해하였으며, 미디안을 추격하였고, 오렙과 즈엡의 머리를 요르단 건너편에 있는 기드온에게 가져왔더라.
25 And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.
