1 사람이 욕망으로 말미암아 자신을 분리한 뒤에는 모든 지혜를 찾아 간섭하느니라.
1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2 어리석은 자는 명철을 크게 즐거워하지 아니하나니, 다만 그의 마음이 스스로를 드러내려는 것이라.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3 사악한 자가 오는 때에는 그때 모멸 또한 오나니, 오욕과 함께 치욕도 오느니라.
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4 사람의 입의 말들은 깊은 물들 같으며, 지혜의 근원은 흐르는 시내 같으니라.
4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
5 사악한 자의 외모를 받아들이는 것과, 의로운 자를 재판에서 뒤집어엎는 것은 선하지 아니하니라.
5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6 어리석은 자의 입술은 다툼 속으로 들어가며, 그의 입은 매 맞을 일들을 부르느니라.
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7 어리석은 자의 입은 그의 멸망이요, 그의 입술은 그의 혼의 올무니라.
7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자의 말들은 상처들과 같나니, 그것들은 뱃속 가장 깊은 부분들 속으로 내려가느니라.
8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9 자기 일에 게으른 자는 또한 대단히 낭비하는 자의 형제니라.
9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
10 주의 이름은 강한 망대이시라. 의로운 자는 그 안으로 달려가므로 안전하니라.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11 부유한 사람의 부는 그의 강한 도시요, 자기 자신의 망상 속에서 높은 성벽과 같으니라.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
12 사람의 마음은 멸망에 앞서 거만하며 존귀에 앞서 겸손이 있느니라.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
13 자신이 사안을 듣기도 전에 그것에 대답하는 자는, 그것이 그에게 어리석음과 수치가 되느니라.
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
14 사람의 영이 그의 병약함을 지탱하리라. 그러나 상처받은 영을 누가 감당할 수 있겠느냐?
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15 신중한 자의 마음은 지식을 얻느니라. 그리고 지혜로운 자들의 귀는 지식을 찾느니라.
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16 사람의 선물은 그를 위한 여지를 만들어 주나니, 위대한 사람들 앞으로 그를 데려가느니라.
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17 자기 자신의 사유를 먼저 제시하는 자는 정당해 보이느니라. 그러나 그의 이웃이 와서 그를 살피느니라.
17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18 제비는 다툼들을 그치게 하고, 강자들 사이를 떼어 놓느니라.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19 실족한 형제는 강한 도시보다 쟁취되기 어려우니라. 그리고 그들의 다툼들은 성채의 빗장들과 같으니라.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20 사람의 배는 자기 입의 열매로 만족되리라. 그리고 그의 입술의 소산으로 그가 채워지리라.
20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21 죽음과 생명이 혀의 권능 안에 있느니라. 그런즉 혀를 사랑하는 자들은 그것의 열매를 먹으리라.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22 아내를 찾아내는 자는 누구나 좋은 것을 찾아내는 것이며, 주의 호의를 얻어 내느니라.
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23 가난한 자는 간절한 말들을 사용하느니라. 그러나 부자는 거칠게 대답하느니라.
23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24 여러 친구들이 있는 사람은 반드시 자신을 친근하게 보여야 하느니라. 그런데 형제보다 더 친밀하게 붙는 친구가 있느니라.
24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
