1 르무엘왕의 말씀들, 곧 그의 어머니가 그에게 가르친 예언이라.
1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2 나의 아들아, 무엇을 말하랴? 나의 태에서 나온 아들아, 무엇을 말하랴? 나의 서원들로 얻은 아들아, 무엇을 말하랴?
2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3 너의 힘을 여자들에게 주지 말며, 너의 길들도 왕들을 멸망시키는 데에 내주지 말라.
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4 오, 르무엘아, 술을 마시는 것은 왕들에게 합당하지 않으며, 그것은 왕들에게 합당하지 않으니, 독주도 통치자들에게 합당하지 않으니라.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5 이는 그들이 술을 마시고 법을 잊어버려서 고난받는 자들 중 누군가의 재판을 왜곡할까 함이라.
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6 독주는 죽기 직전인 자에게나 주고 술은 무거운 마음들을 지닌 자들에게나 주라.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
7 그가 마셔서 자신의 빈궁을 잊어버리게 하고 더 이상 자신의 가련함을 기억하지 않게 하라.
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
8 멸망이 정해진 모든 자들의 송사에서 말 못 하는 자들을 위하여 너의 입을 열라.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
9 너의 입을 열고 의롭게 재판하라. 그리고 가난한 자와 빈곤한 자의 송사를 변호하라.
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
10 ¶ 누가 현숙한 여자를 발견할 수 있겠느냐? 이는 그녀의 값이 루비들보다 훨씬 더 나가기 때문이라.
10 ¶ Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 그녀의 남편의 마음은 그녀를 편안히 신뢰하므로 그는 약탈물이 필요하지 않으리라.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 그녀는 자기 생애의 모든 날들 동안 남편에게 선을 행하고 악을 행하지 않으리라.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 그녀는 양털과 아마풀을 구하고 기꺼이 자기 두 손으로 일하느니라.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 그녀는 상인들의 선박들 같으니, 그녀는 먼 데서 자신의 양식을 가져오느니라.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 그녀는 또한 아직 밤일 때 일어나 자신의 집안사람들에게 음식을 주고 자신의 시녀들에게 몫을 주느니라.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 그녀는 밭을 숙고하여 보고 그것을 구입하느니라. 자기 두 손의 열매로 그녀는 포도원을 세우느니라.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 그녀는 자신의 허리를 힘껏 동여매고, 자신의 두 팔을 힘 있게 하느니라.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 그녀는 자신의 장사가 잘되는 것을 알아차리니, 그녀의 불빛은 밤에도 꺼지지 않느니라.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 그녀는 자기 두 손을 물렛가락에 놓고 자기 두 손으로 실감개를 잡느니라.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 그녀는 가난한 자에게 자기 손을 뻗느니라. 진정 그녀는 빈곤한 자에게 자기 두 손을 내미느니라.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 그녀는 눈이 와도 자신의 집안사람들로 인하여 무서워하지 않느니라. 이는 그녀의 집안사람들이 모두 주홍색 옷으로 입혀졌기 때문이라.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 그녀는 스스로 색실로 짠 덮개들을 만드나니, 그녀의 옷은 비단옷이요, 자주색 옷이라.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 그녀의 남편은 그가 그 지역 장로들 가운데 앉을 때 성문들 안에서 알려지느니라.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 그녀는 고운 아마포를 만들어 그것을 팔며, 허리띠들을 상인에게 넘겨주느니라.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 강건함과 존귀가 그녀의 옷이라. 그런즉 다가올 때에 그녀가 크게 기뻐하리라.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 그녀는 지혜롭게 자기 입을 여느니라. 그리고 그녀의 혀 안에는 친절의 법이 있느니라.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 그녀는 자기 집안의 길들을 잘 살피고 나태함의 빵을 먹지 않느니라.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 그녀의 자식들이 일어나서 그녀를 복된 자라고 부르고, 그녀의 남편도 그리하나니 그가 그녀를 칭찬하기를,
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 “많은 딸들이 현숙하게 행하였으나 당신은 그들 모두보다 탁월하도다.” 하느니라.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 호의는 속임수로 가득하고 아름다움은 헛되니라. 그러나 주를 두려워하는 여자, 그녀는 칭찬을 받으리라.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 그녀의 두 손의 열매를 그녀에게 주라. 그리고 그녀 자신의 행위들이 성문들 안에서 그녀를 칭찬하게 하라.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
