1 이후에 주께서 회오리바람으로 엘리야를 하늘로 데리고 올라가려 하실 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 엘리야가 길갈에서부터 엘리사와 함께 갔더라.
1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 그리고 엘리야가 엘리사에게 말하기를, “내가 너에게 간구하노니, 여기에 머물라. 이는 주께서 나를 벧엘로 보내셨기 때문이라.” 하였더라. 이에 엘리사가 그에게 말하기를, “주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 또 당신의 혼이 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 제가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 그들이 벧엘로 내려갔더라.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 그러자 벧엘에 있던 예언자들의 아들들이 엘리사에게 나아와 그에게 말하기를, “당신께서는 주께서 당신의 주인을 오늘 당신의 머리로부터 데려가실 것을 아시나이까?” 하였더라. 이에 그가 말하기를, “진정 내가 그것을 아노라. 너희는 너희의 침묵을 지키라.” 하였더라.
3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
4 이윽고 엘리야가 그에게 말하기를, “엘리사야, 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 여기에 머물라. 이는 주께서 나를 예리코로 보내셨기 때문이라.” 하였더라. 이에 그가 말하기를, “주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 또 당신의 혼이 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 제가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 그들이 예리코로 왔더라.
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 그러자 예리코에 있던 예언자들의 아들들이 엘리사에게 나아와 그에게 말하기를, “당신께서는 주께서 당신의 주인을 오늘 당신의 머리로부터 데려가실 것을 아시나이까?” 하였더라. 이에 그가 대답하기를, “진정 내가 그것을 아노라. 너희는 너희의 침묵을 지키라.” 하였더라.
5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
6 이윽고 엘리야가 그에게 말하기를, “내가 너에게 간구하노니, 여기서 머물라. 이는 주께서 나를 요르단으로 보내셨기 때문이라.” 하였더라. 이에 그가 말하기를, “주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 또 당신의 혼이 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 제가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라. 그런즉 그들 둘이 계속 갔더라.
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 그러자 예언자들의 아들들 중 오십 명의 남자들이 가서 멀리 떨어져 관망하려고 섰는데 그들 둘은 요르단 곁에 섰더라.
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 그리고 엘리야가 그의 덧옷을 취하여 그것을 둘둘 말아 물들을 쳤더니, 그것들이 이리저리 나뉘어졌더라. 그렇게 하여 그들 둘이 마른 땅 위를 건너갔더라.
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 ¶ 그리고 그들이 건너갔을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 엘리야가 엘리사에게 말하기를, “내가 너에게서 떠나 사라지기 전에 내가 너를 위하여 무엇을 할지 구하라.” 하였더라. 이에 엘리사가 말하기를, “제가 당신께 간구하오니, 당신 영의 두 배의 몫이 제 위에 임하게 하소서.” 하였더라.
9 ¶ And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 그러자 그가 말하기를, “네가 한 가지 어려운 일을 구하였도다. 그럼에도 불구하고 내가 너를 떠나 사라질 때 네가 나를 본다면 그것이 너에게 그렇게 되리라. 그러나 만일 보지 않는다면 그것은 그렇게 되지 아니하리라.” 하였더라.
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11 이윽고 그들이 계속 나아가 대화하는 동안 이러한 일이 있었으니, 보라, 불 병거 한 대와 불 말들이 나타나 그들 둘을 갈라놓았더라. 그리고 엘리야는 회오리바람에 의하여 하늘로 올라갔더라.
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 ¶ 그리고 엘리사가 그것을 보았으니, 그가 외치기를, “나의 아버지, 나의 아버지, 이스라엘의 병거와 그곳의 기병들이여.” 하였더라. 그러고 나서 그는 더 이상 그를 보지 못하였더라. 그러자 그가 자기 자신의 옷을 붙잡고 그것들을 두 조각으로 찢었더라.
12 ¶ And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 그가 또한 엘리야에게서 떨어진 엘리야의 덧옷도 들어 올렸으니, 돌아가서 요르단 둑 곁에 섰더라.
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 그리고 그가 엘리야에게서 떨어진 엘리야의 덧옷을 취하여 물들을 치며 말하기를, “엘리야의 주 하나님은 어디에 계시나이까?” 하였더라. 그러자 그 또한 물들을 쳤을 때 그것들이 이리저리 갈라졌더라. 그런즉 엘리사가 건너갔더라.
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 그러자 관망하려고 예리코에 있던 예언자들의 아들들이 그를 보자 그들이 말하기를, “엘리야의 영이 엘리사 위에 머무는도다.” 하였더라. 그러자 그들이 그를 맞이하러 왔고 그의 앞에서 자신들의 몸을 땅바닥에 숙여 절하였더라.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
16 ¶ 그리고 그들이 그에게 말하기를, “이제 보소서, 당신의 종들 곁에 오십 명의 강건한 남자들이 있나이다. 저희가 당신께 간구하오니, 그들을 가게 하시어 당신의 주인을 찾는 것을 허락하소서. 혹시라도 주의 영께서 그를 위로 들어 올리셨다가 그를 어느 산 위나 어느 골짜기 가운데 던지셨을까 함이니이다.” 하였더라. 이에 그가 말하기를, “너희는 사람을 보내지 말지니라.” 하였더라.
16 ¶ And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
17 그런데 그들이 그가 부끄러워질 때까지 그에게 조르자 그가 말하기를, “보내라.” 하였더라. 그러므로 그들이 오십 명의 남자들을 보냈더라. 이윽고 그들이 삼 일 동안 찾았으나 그를 발견하지 못하였더라.
17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
18 그리고 그들이 그에게 다시 왔을 때 (이는 그가 예리코에 머물렀기 때문이라.) 그가 그들에게 말하기를, “내가 너희에게 ‘가지 말라.’ 하지 아니하였느냐?” 하였더라.
18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?
19 ¶ 그러자 그 도시의 남자들이 엘리사에게 말하기를, “제가 당신께 간구하오니, 보소서, 나의 주께서도 보시는 바와 같이 이 도시가 자리잡은 위치는 쾌적하나이다. 그러나 물이 쓸모없기에 토양이 생산을 못하나이다.” 하였더라.
19 ¶ And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.
20 이에 그가 말하기를, “나에게 새 통 하나를 가져오고 그 안에 소금을 담아 오라.” 하였더라. 그러자 그들이 그것을 그에게 가져갔더라.
20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.
21 그리고 그가 물들이 솟아오르는 곳으로 나가서 거기 안에다 소금을 던지며 말하기를, “주가 이같이 말하노라. 내가 이 물들을 치유하였노라. 거기서부터 죽음이나, 생산을 못 하는 토지가 더 이상 없으리라.” 하였더라.
21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
22 그렇게 하여 물들이 엘리사가 말한 그의 언급대로 치유되었으니, 오늘날까지 이르니라.
22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.
23 ¶ 이후에 그가 거기서부터 벧엘로 올라갔더라. 그리고 그가 그 길로 올라가는 동안 도시에서 어린아이들이 나와서 그를 조롱하여 그에게 말하기를, “너, 대머리야, 올라가라. 너, 대머리야, 올라가라.” 하였더라.
23 ¶ And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
24 그러자 그가 뒤로 돌아서 그들을 바라보며 주의 이름으로 그들을 저주하였더라. 이에 나무숲에서 두 마리의 암곰들이 나왔고 그들 중 사십이 명의 아이들을 찢었더라.
24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
25 그러고 나서 그가 거기서부터 칼멜산으로 갔으며, 거기서부터 그가 사마리아로 되돌아갔더라.
25 And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
