1 주 너의 하나님께서 그 민족들을 끊어 버리시고, 주 너의 하나님께서 그들의 지역을 너에게 주시며, 네가 그들을 계승하고 그들의 도시들 안과 그들의 집들 안에서 거할 때,
1 When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
2 너는 주 너의 하나님께서 그곳을 차지하라고 너에게 주시는 너의 지역 한가운데서 너를 위하여 세 개의 도시들을 구별해 놓을지니라.
2 Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
3 너는 너에게 하나의 길을 예비하여 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 상속하라고 주시는 그 지역의 지경들을 세 부분으로 나눌지니, 살해자마다 그리로 도망할 수 있게 하려 함이라.
3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.
4 ¶ 그런즉 자신이 그리로 도망하여 살 수 있는 살해자의 경우는 이러하니, 누구든지 그가 과거에 증오하지 않던 자기 이웃을 부지중에 죽인 자라.
4 ¶ And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;
5 이를테면 어떤 사람이 자기 이웃과 함께 벌목하려고 나무숲에 들어가서 나무를 찍어 쓰러뜨리기 위해 그의 손에 도끼를 쥔 채 휘둘렀는데, 도끼 머리가 도끼 자루에서 빠져나와 그의 이웃을 맞추어 그가 죽는 경우, 그는 그 도시들 중 하나로 도망쳐서 살지니라.
5 As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:
6 이는 그가 과거에 그 이웃을 증오하지 않았기에 그는 사형에 합당하지 않으나, 그 피의 복수를 하는 자가 자기 마음이 달아올랐을 때 그 살해자를 추격하고, 그 길이 멀어서 그를 따라잡아 그를 살해하는 일이 없게 하려 함이라.
6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
7 이러한 이유로 내가 너에게 명령하며 말하기를, ‘너는 너를 위하여 세 개의 도시를 구별시키라.’ 하노라.
7 Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.
8 그리고 만일 주 너의 하나님께서 너의 조상들에게 맹세하신 대로 그분께서 너의 지경을 넓히시고, 너의 조상들에게 주시기로 친히 약속하신 모든 지역을 너에게 주시는 경우,
8 And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
9 만일 내가 이날 너에게 명령하는 이 모든 명령들을 네가 지켜서 그것들을 행하고 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하며 언제나 그분의 길들 가운데 살아간다면, 그때 너는 이 세 개 외에도 너를 위하여 세 개의 도시들을 더할지니라.
9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
10 이는 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 유산으로 주시는 너의 지역 가운데서 무고한 피가 흘려지지 않게 하여 너의 위에 피가 임하지 않게 하려 함이라.
10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
11 ¶ 그러나 만일 어떤 남자가 자기 이웃을 증오하여 그를 숨어서 기다리다가 그를 대적하여 들고일어나 치명적인 타격을 그에게 가하여 그를 죽이고 나서 이 세 도시들 중 한 곳 안으로 도망하는 경우,
11 ¶ But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
12 그때 그가 있는 도시의 장로들은 그리로 사람을 보내서 그를 잡아 오고, 그 피의 복수를 하는 자의 손안에 그를 넘겨서, 그를 죽게 할지니라.
12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
13 너의 눈은 그를 동정하지 말며 다만 너는 무고한 피의 죄과를 이스라엘로부터 치워 버릴지니, 네가 잘되게 하려 함이라.
13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
14 ¶ 너는 너의 이웃의 경계표를 옮기지 말지니라. 그것은 그들이 옛적부터 너의 유산으로 세워둔 것이요, 그 유산은 주 너의 하나님께서 그곳을 차지하라고 너에게 주신 그 지역 가운데서 네가 상속할 것이라.
14 ¶ Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
15 ¶ 어떤 죄악으로 인해서나 어떤 죄로 인해서나 그가 지은 어떤 죄에 있어서도 한 사람을 대적하여 한 명의 증인만 일어나지 말지니라. 두 증인의 입이나 세 증인의 입으로 그 사안이 확실시되리라.
15 ¶ One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
16 ¶ 만일 어떤 거짓 증인이 어떤 사람을 대적하여 일어나서 그를 대적하여 잘못된 것을 증언한다면,
16 ¶ If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
17 그때 그 사이에서 논란이 있는 사람들 양측은 주 앞에 설지니, 그 당시에 있을 제사장들과 판관들 앞에 설지니라.
17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
18 그런 다음에 판관들은 부지런히 심문할지니라. 그런데 보라, 만일 그 증인이 거짓 증인이요, 자기 형제를 대적하여 거짓되이 증언하였다면,
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
19 그때 너희는 그가 자기 형제에게 행하려고 생각하였던 대로, 그에게 행할지니라. 그렇게 하여 너는 너희 가운데서 악을 치워 버릴지니라.
19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
20 그리하면 남은 자들은 듣고 두려워하여 향후 너희 가운데서 더 이상 그러한 악을 어떤 것도 저지르지 아니하리라.
20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
21 그런즉, 너의 눈은 동정하지 말지니라. 오직 생명에는 생명으로, 눈에는 눈으로, 이에는 이로, 손에는 손으로, 발에는 발로 갚을지니라.
21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
