1 “오, 너희, 하늘들이여, 귀담아들으라. 그리하면 내가 말하겠노라. 그리고 오, 땅이여, 내 입의 말들을 들으라.

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

2 나의 교리는 빗방울처럼 내리고, 나의 연설은 이슬처럼 방울져 내리리니, 연한 풀잎 위에 내리는 이슬비처럼, 또 잔디 위에 내리는 소나기들처럼 내리리라.

My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

3 이는 내가 주의 이름을 공표할 것이기 때문이라. 너희는 우리 하나님께 위대함을 돌리라.

Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

4 그분은 반석이시요, 그분의 역사는 완벽하시도다. 이는 그분의 모든 길들이 공의이기 때문이라. 그분은 진실하시고 죄악이 없으신 한 하나님이시며, 공정하시고 의로우시도다.

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

5 그들은 스스로 부패하였나니, 그들의 흠은 그분의 자녀들의 흠이 아니니라. 그들은 비뚤어지고 뒤틀린 세대니라.

They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.

6 오, 어리석고 지혜롭지 않은 백성이여, 너희가 주께 그와 같이 보은하느냐? 그분께서는 너를 사신 너의 아버지가 아니시냐? 그분께서 너를 만드시고 너를 확고히 세우지 아니하셨느냐?

Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?

7 ¶ 옛날들을 기억하라. 많은 세대들의 연수들을 숙고하라. 너의 아버지에게 물으라. 그리하면 그가 너에게 보이리라. 너의 장로들에게 물으라. 그리하면 그들이 너에게 말해 주리라.

¶ Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.

8 지극히 높으신 분께서 민족들에게 그들의 유산을 분배하셨을 때, 곧 그분께서 아담의 자손들을 분리시키셨을 때, 그분께서 이스라엘 자녀들의 수에 따라 백성들의 구획들을 설정하셨도다.

When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

9 이는 주의 몫이 그분의 백성이기 때문이라. 야곱은 그분의 유산으로 할당된 몫이로다.

For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

10 그분께서는 한 사막 지역 가운데서, 불모지가 된 삭막한 광야 가운데서 그를 발견하셨도다. 그분께서 그를 이끌며 다니셨고, 그분께서 그를 가르치셨으며, 그분께서 자신의 눈동자처럼 그를 지키셨느니라.

He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.

11 마치 독수리 한 마리가 그녀의 둥지를 휘젓고 그녀의 새끼들 위에서 펄럭이며 그녀의 날개들을 넓게 펼쳐서 그것들을 받아 내고 그녀의 날개들 위에 그것들을 업는 것과 같도다.

As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

12 주께서 그와 같이 홀로 그를 이끄셨으니, 거기에는 그분과 함께한 타국 신이 아무도 없었도다.

So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

13 그분께서 그로 하여금 땅의 높은 곳들을 타고 다니게 하셨으니, 그로 하여금 밭들의 소산을 먹게 하셨도다. 그리고 그분께서 그로 하여금 반석에서 나오는 꿀과, 부싯돌 반석에서 나오는 기름을 빨게 하셨도다.

He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;

14 암소들의 버터와 양들의 젖을 어린양들의 지방과 함께, 또 바샨 품종의 숫양들과 염소들을 밀 종자들에서 나온 기름과 함께 먹게 하셨도다. 그리고 너는 포도의 순수한 피를 마셨도다.

Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.

15 그러나 여슈룬이 살찌자 걷어찼도다. 네가 살쪘고, 네가 비대해졌으며, 네가 지방으로 덮였도다. 그때 그가 자신을 만드신 하나님을 저버렸고, 자신의 구원의 반석을 가볍게 여겼도다.

But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

16 그들은 타국 신들로 그분께 질투를 일으켰고, 그들은 가증한 것들로 그분께 분노를 일으켰도다.

They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.

17 그들이 하나님께 희생 제물을 바치지 않고 마귀들에게 바쳤도다. 그들은 자신들이 몰랐던 신들에게 희생 제물을 바쳤으니, 너희의 조상들이 두려워하지 아니하던 새롭게 떠오른 새 신들에게 바쳤도다.

They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.

18 네가 너를 낳은 반석에는 무심하고 너를 조성하신 하나님을 잊었도다.

Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

19 그런즉 주께서 그것을 보셨을 때 그분께서 그들을 혐오하셨으니, 그분의 아들들과 그분의 딸들이 격분시킨 까닭이라.

And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.

20 그런즉 그분께서 이같이 말씀하셨도다. ‘내가 나의 얼굴을 그들에게서 숨기겠노라. 내가 그들의 종말이 어떻게 될지 지켜보겠노라. 이는 그들이 몹시 왜곡된 세대요, 그들 안에 아무 믿음이 없는 자녀들이기 때문이라.

And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.

21 그들이 하나님이 아닌 것으로 나를 움직여 질투하게 하였도다. 그들은 그들의 헛된 것들로 나에게 분노를 일으켰도다. 그런즉 나는 백성이 아닌 자들로 그들을 움직여 질투하게 하겠노라. 내가 어리석은 민족으로 그들에게 분노를 일으키겠노라.

They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

22 이는 나의 분노 속에서 불이 타올랐으니, 가장 낮은 지옥까지 태울 것이요, 땅을 그녀의 소산과 함께 사를 것이요, 산들의 기초들에도 불을 놓을 것이라.

For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

23 내가 그들 위에 위해들을 쌓아 올리겠노라. 내가 나의 화살들을 그들 위에 쏘겠노라.

I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them.

24 그들이 배고픔으로 불탈 것이요, 타는 열기와 비참한 멸망으로 집어삼켜지리라. 나 또한 그들 위에 짐승들의 이빨을 보내고, 아울러 진토 속의 뱀들의 독을 보내겠노라.

They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

25 밖에서는 칼이, 안에서는 공포가 청년과 처녀를 모두 멸하리니, 젖먹이들도 백발의 노인들과 함께 멸하리라.

The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs.

26 나는 말하기를, ‘내가 그들을 구석구석으로 흩겠으니, 내가 사람들 사이에서 그들에 대한 기억을 그치게 만들겠노라.’ 하였도다.

I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men:

27 내가 원수의 격노를 두려워하지 아니하였더라면 그리하였으리니, 그들의 대적들이 스스로 이상하게 처신하지 않게 하려 함이요, 그들이 ‘우리의 손이 높고, 주는 이 모든 것을 행하지 아니하였도다.’라고 말하지 않게 하려 함이라.’

Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not done all this.

28 이는 그들이 계획이 없는 민족이며, 그들 안에 어떠한 명철도 없기 때문이라.

For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.

29 오, 그들이 지혜로웠더라면, 그들이 이것을 이해했더라면, 그들이 자신들의 나중 결말을 숙고하였더라면 좋았으리라!

O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

30 그들의 반석이 그들을 판 것이 아니고 주가 그들을 가둔 것이 아니라면, 어떻게 한 명이 천 명을 뒤쫓으며, 두 명이 만 명을 도피하게 만들겠는가?

How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

31 이는 그들의 반석이 우리의 반석과 같지 아니하기 때문이니, 심지어 우리의 원수들조차 스스로 이 일들에 관하여 판관들이 되어 판단하는도다.

For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

32 이는 그들의 포도나무가 소돔의 포도나무에서 나오고, 고모라의 밭들에서 나오기 때문이라. 그들의 포도들은 지독히 쓴 포도들이니, 그들의 송이들이 쓰도다.

For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:

33 그들의 포도주는 용들의 독이요, 독뱀들의 잔인한 독액이라.

Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.

34 이것이 내 곁에 쌓여 있지 아니하며, 나의 보물 창고들 가운데 완전히 봉인되어 있지 아니하냐?

Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?

35 복수와 되갚음은 나에게 속하노라. 그들의 발은 합당한 때에 미끄러지리라. 이는 그들의 재난의 날이 가깝고, 그들 위에 임할 것들이 서두르기 때문이라.

To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

36 이는 주가 그의 백성을 심판할 것이요, 그가 그들의 권능이 떠나간 것과 갇힌 자나 남겨진 자가 아무도 없음을 볼 때 그의 종들을 위하여 스스로 돌이킬 것이기 때문이라.

For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.

37 그러면서 그가 이같이 말하리라. ‘그들의 신들이 어디 있으며, 그들이 신뢰한 그들의 반석이 어디 있느냐?

And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted,

38 그들의 희생 제물들의 지방을 먹고, 그들의 음료 제물들의 포도즙을 마신 신들이 어디 있느냐? 그들로 하여금 일어나서 너희를 돕게 하고, 너희의 보호자가 되게 하라.

Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.

39 이제는 나, 바로 나는 그인 것과 내 곁에 어떤 신도 없다는 것을 알라. 나는 죽이기도 하고, 나는 살리기도 하노라. 나는 상처를 입히기도 하고, 나는 치유하기도 하노라. 또한 나의 손에서 구출할 수 있는 이가 아무도 없도다.

See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

40 이는 내가 나의 손을 하늘로 들어 올리며 말하기를, ‘나는 영원히 사노라.’ 하기 때문이라.

For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.

41 만일 내가 나의 번쩍이는 칼을 갈고 나의 손이 심판을 붙든다면, 나는 나의 원수들에게 복수를 돌려주겠으며, 나를 증오하는 자들에게 보응하겠노라.

If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.

42 나는 나의 화살들로 하여금 피에 취하게 하겠고 나의 칼이 육체를 집어삼키리니, 그 원수 위에 임하는 보복들의 시작부터 살해된 자들의 피와 포로 잡힌 자들의 피로 그리하리라.’

I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.

43 오, 너희, 민족들아, 그분의 백성과 함께 크게 기뻐하라. 이는 그분의 종들의 피를 그분께서 복수하실 것이요, 그분의 대적들에게 복수를 돌려주실 것이요, 그분의 지역에, 또 그분의 백성에게 자비로우실 것이기 때문이라.”

Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.

44 ¶ 그리하여 모세가 와서 이 모든 노랫말들을 백성의 귀에 전하였으니, 곧 그와, 눈의 아들 호셰아라.

¶ And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.

45 이윽고 모세가 이 모든 말씀들을 온 이스라엘에게 전하는 것을 끝마쳤더라.

And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel:

46 그리고 그가 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “내가 이날 너희 가운데서 증언하는 모든 말들에 너희 마음을 두라. 그 말씀들은 너희가 너희 자녀들에게 준수하여 행하도록 명령할 것들이니, 곧 이 율법의 모든 말씀들이라.

And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.

47 이는 그것이 너희에게 헛된 것이 아니요, 그것이 너희의 생명이기 때문이라. 그런즉 너희가 그곳을 차지하려고 요르단을 건너가는 그 지역 가운데서 너희가 이것을 통하여 너희의 날들을 연장하리라.”

For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

48 이윽고 주께서 모세에게 바로 그날에 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

And the LORD spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying,

49 “너는 이 아바림산 속으로 올라와 느보산에 이르라. 그곳은 모압 지역 가운데 있고 예리코 맞은편에 있느니라. 그리하여 내가 이스라엘 자녀들에게 소유로 주는 가나안 지역을 보라.

Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:

50 그런 다음에 네가 올라가는 그 산속에서 죽어 너의 백성에게로 합쳐질지니라. 너의 형제 아론이 호르산 속에서 죽어 그의 백성에게 합쳐진 것과 같이 그리하라.

And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:

51 이는 너희가 이스라엘 자녀들의 한가운데서 나를 거룩하게 구별하지 아니하였으므로 진 광야 가운데 있는 므리바-카데시의 물들에서 너희가 이스라엘 자녀들 가운데 나를 대적하여 범법한 까닭이라.

Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel.

52 그럼에도 너는 너의 앞에 있는 그 지역을 보리라. 그러나 너는 거기로, 곧 내가 이스라엘 자녀들에게 주는 그 지역으로 들어가지 못하리라.”

Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.
