1 에프라임이 떨면서 말하던 때 그는 이스라엘에서 스스로를 크게 높였도다. 그러나 그가 바알로 범죄하였을 때 그는 죽은 것이라.

1 When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

2 그런데 이제 그들이 더욱더 죄를 짓고 그들의 은으로 주조된 형상들을 자신들에게 만들어 두었으며 그들 자신의 명철에 따라 우상들을 만들었으니, 그것은 모두 기능공들의 작업물이라. 그들은 그것들에 관하여 말하기를, “희생 제물을 드리는 사람들은 그 송아지들에 입 맞출지어다.” 하는도다.

2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

3 그러므로 그들은 아침 구름 같고, 사라지는 새벽 이슬 같으며, 마당에서 회오리바람에 날리는 쭉정이 같고, 굴뚝에서 나오는 연기 같으리라.

3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

4 그럼에도 나는 이집트 지역에서부터 주 너의 하나님이라. 그런즉 너는 나 이외에 어떤 신도 알지 말지니라. 이는 나 외에 어떤 구원자도 없기 때문이라.

4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

5 ¶ 내가 대단히 메마른 지역에서 광야 가운데 너를 알았노라.

5 ¶ I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

6 그들의 초원에 따라 그만큼 그들이 배가 채워졌도다. 그들이 배가 채워지자 그들의 마음이 크게 높여졌도다. 그러므로 그들은 나를 잊어버렸도다.

6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

7 그러므로 내가 그들에게 사자같이 되겠노라. 마치 길가의 표범같이 내가 그들을 노려보겠노라.

7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:

8 나는 마치 그녀의 새끼들과 죽음으로 갈라진 곰처럼 그들을 만나겠고, 그들의 심장의 막을 찢겠으며, 거기서 내가 사자처럼 그들을 집어삼키겠노라. 야생 짐승이 그들을 찢으리라.

8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

9 ¶ 오, 이스라엘아, 너는 너 자신을 멸망시켰노라. 그러나 너의 도움은 내 안에 있느니라.

9 ¶ O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

10 내가 너의 왕이 되겠노라. 너의 모든 도시들 안에서 어디에 너를 구원할 누군가가 있느냐? 그리고 네가 그들에 관하여 말하기를, “저에게 왕과 통치자들을 주소서.” 하였던 너의 판관들은 어디에 있느냐?

10 I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

11 내가 나의 분노 가운데서 너에게 한 왕을 주었고 나의 진노 가운데서 그를 박탈시켰도다.

11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

12 에프라임의 죄악이 싸매지고, 그의 죄가 숨겨지는도다.

12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

13 산고를 치르는 여자의 슬픔들이 그의 위에 임하리라. 그는 지혜롭지 아니한 아들이로다. 이는 그가 아이들이 터져 나오는 곳 안에 오래 머물러서는 안 되기 때문이라.

13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.

14 내가 그들을 음부의 권세로부터 속량하겠노라. 내가 그들을 죽음으로부터 구속하겠노라. 오, 사망아, 내가 너의 재앙들이 되겠노라. 오, 음부야, 내가 너의 멸망이 되겠노라. 돌이키는 것이 나의 두 눈으로부터 숨겨지리라.

14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

15 ¶ 비록 그가 자기 형제들 가운데서 열매로 가득할지라도 동풍이 오리니, 주의 바람이 광야에서 올라올 것이요, 그의 샘이 마를 것이며, 그의 원천이 말라 버리리라. 그는 기쁨을 주는 모든 그릇들의 보물을 약탈하리라.

15 ¶ Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

16 사마리아는 황량해지리라. 이는 그녀가 그녀의 하나님을 대적하여 반역하였기 때문이라. 그들은 칼에 의하여 쓰러지리라. 그들의 유아들은 내려침을 당하여 산산조각 날 것이요, 그들의 아이 밴 여자들은 배가 갈라지리라.

16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
