1 이후에 주께서 다윗에게 나단을 보내셨더라. 그런즉 나단이 다윗에게 와서 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “한 도시 안에 두 남자가 있었는데 한 명은 부유하고 다른 한 명은 가난하였나이다.
1 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2 그 부유한 남자에게는 지극히 많은 양 떼들과 소 떼들이 있었나이다.
2 The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:
3 그러나 그 가난한 남자에게는 그가 사서 키운 작고 어린 암양 한 마리를 제외하면 아무것도 없었나이다. 그러자 그것이 그와 함께, 또 그의 자식들과 함께 자랐나이다. 그것이 그가 먹는 음식을 먹고 그가 마시는 잔에서 마시고 그의 품 안에 누웠으니, 그에게는 한 명의 딸과 같았나이다.
3 But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
4 그러다가 한 여행자가 부유한 남자에게 왔는데, 그가 자신에게 온 그 도보 여행자에게 자신이 소유한 양 떼와 자신이 소유한 소 떼에서 취하여 요리해 주는 것을 아까워하였고, 오히려 그 가난한 남자의 어린양을 취하여 자신에게 온 사람을 위하여 그것을 요리해 주었나이다.”
4 And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
5 그러자 그 남자를 대적하여 다윗의 분노가 대단히 크게 타올랐더라. 그리하여 그가 나단에게 이같이 말하였더라. “주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 이 일을 행한 그 남자는 반드시 죽으리라.
5 And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
6 그리고 그는 그 어린양을 네 배로 되갚아야 하리니, 그가 이런 짓을 행하였기 때문이요, 그에게 동정심이 없었기 때문이라.”
6 And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.
7 ¶ 그러자 나단이 다윗에게 이같이 말하였더라. “당신이 그 사람이니이다. 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 이같이 말씀하시나이다. ‘내가 너를 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕으로 기름 부었고 내가 너를 사울의 손에서 구출하였노라.
7 ¶ And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
8 그리고 내가 너에게 너의 주인의 집과 너의 품 안에 너의 주인의 아내들을 주었으며, 너에게 이스라엘 집과 유다 집을 주었노라. 그러고도 만일 그것이 너무 적었더라면, 내가 너에게 이런저런 것들을 더 주었으리라.
8 And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
9 어찌 네가 주의 명령을 멸시하여 그의 목전에 악을 행하였느냐? 너는 히타이트족 우리야를 칼로 죽였으며, 그의 아내를 너의 아내가 되도록 빼앗았으니, 암몬의 후손들의 칼로 그를 살해하였도다.
9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10 그러므로 이제 칼이 너의 집에서 결코 떠나지 아니하리라. 이는 네가 나를 멸시하였고 히타이트족 우리야의 아내를 너의 아내가 되도록 빼앗았기 때문이라.
10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11 주가 이같이 말하노라. 보라, 나는 너 자신의 집에서 너를 대적하여 악을 일으키겠노라. 또 내가 너의 아내들을 너의 두 눈앞에서 빼앗아 그들을 너의 이웃에게 주겠으니, 해가 중천일 때 그가 너의 아내들과 동침하리라.
11 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12 이는 네가 그것을 몰래 행하였기 때문이라. 그러나 나는 이것을 온 이스라엘 앞과 해 앞에서 행하겠노라.’”
12 For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
13 그러자 다윗이 나단에게 말하기를, “제가 주를 대적하여 죄를 지었나이다.” 하였더라. 이에 나단이 다윗에게 이같이 말하였더라. “주께서도 당신의 죄를 치워 버리셨으니, 당신께서는 죽지 아니하시리이다.
13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
14 하지만 이 행동을 통하여 당신께서 주의 원수들에게 신성 모독을 하도록 커다란 빌미를 주었으므로 당신께 태어난 자식 또한 반드시 죽으리이다.”
14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
15 ¶ 그러고 나서 나단이 자기 집으로 떠났더라. 이윽고 주께서 우리야의 아내가 다윗에게 낳아 준 아이를 내리치셨으니, 그 아이가 몹시 앓았더라.
15 ¶ And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
16 그러므로 다윗이 아이로 인하여 하나님께 간청하였더라. 그리고 다윗은 금식하며 들어가서 밤새 땅 위에 엎드렸더라.
16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.
17 그런즉 그의 집의 장로들이 일어나서 그에게 가서 그를 땅에서 일으켜 세웠으나 그가 원하지 아니하였으며 그는 그들과 함께 빵을 먹지도 아니하였더라.
17 And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18 그러다가 일곱째 날에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그 아이가 죽었더라. 그러자 다윗의 종들이 아이가 죽은 것을 그에게 알리는 것을 두려워하였더라. 이는 그들이 말하기를, “보라, 아이가 아직 살아 있는 동안에 우리가 왕께 고하였는데도 왕께서 우리의 음성에 경청하려 하지 아니하셨도다. 그렇다면 하물며 아이가 죽은 것을 우리가 왕께 알리는 경우, 왕께서 자신을 얼마나 괴롭게 하시겠느냐?” 하였더라.
18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
19 그러나 다윗이 자기 종들이 수군거리는 것을 보았을 때 다윗은 아이가 죽었다는 것을 알아차렸더라. 그러므로 다윗이 자기 종들에게 말하기를, “아이가 죽었느냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 그들이 말하기를, “그가 죽었나이다.” 하였더라.
19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
20 그때 다윗이 땅에서 일어나 씻고 자기 몸에 기름을 발랐으며, 자신의 복장을 갈아입고 주의 집 안으로 들어와 경배하였더라. 그런 뒤에 그가 자기 자신의 집으로 들어왔더라. 그런 다음에 그가 요구하자 그들이 그의 앞에 빵을 차렸으니, 그가 먹었더라.
20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
21 그때 그의 종들이 그에게 말하기를, “당신께서 행한 이 일이 어찌 된 것이니이까? 당신께서 아이가 살아 있었을 때는 그 아이를 위하여 금식하고 우셨나이다. 그러나 아이가 죽었을 때는 당신께서 일어나셔서 빵을 드셨나이다.” 하였더라.
21 Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.
22 그러자 그가 이같이 말하였더라. “아이가 아직 살아 있는 동안에 내가 금식하고 울었노라. 이는 내가 말하기를, ‘하나님께서 나에게 은혜를 베푸시어 아이를 살게 하실지 누가 말할 수 있겠는가?’ 하였기 때문이라.
22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
23 그러나 지금은 그가 죽었도다. 어찌 내가 금식해야겠느냐? 내가 그를 다시 원래대로 데려올 수 있겠느냐? 나는 그에게로 갈 것이나 그는 나에게로 되돌아오지 못하리라.”
23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
24 ¶ 그러고 나서 다윗은 자기 아내 밧셰바를 위로하고 그녀에게 들어가 그녀와 동침하였더라. 그러자 그녀가 한 아들을 낳았으니, 그가 그의 이름을 솔로몬이라 불렀더라. 그리고 주께서 그를 사랑하셨더라.
24 ¶ And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
25 그런즉 그분께서 예언자 나단의 손을 통하여 보내셨으니, 그가 주로 인하여 그의 이름을 여디디야라 불렀더라.
25 And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
26 이후에 요압이 암몬의 후손들에 속한 랍바를 대적하여 싸워 그 왕의 도시를 점령하였더라.
26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27 그러고 나서 요압이 다윗에게 전령들을 보내어 이같이 말하였더라. “제가 랍바를 대적하여 싸워 물들의 도시를 점령하였나이다.
27 And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
28 그러므로 이제 나머지 백성을 한데 모으시어 도시를 대적하여 주둔하시고 그곳을 점령하소서. 제가 그 도시를 점령하여 그곳이 제 이름을 따라 불리지 않게 하소서.”
28 Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
29 그러자 다윗이 온 백성을 한데 모아 랍바로 갔으니, 그곳을 대적하여 싸워 그곳을 점령하였더라.
29 And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30 그리하여 그가 그들의 왕의 왕관을 그의 머리에서 벗겨내어 취하였는데 그것의 무게가 금 일 달란트였고 보석들이 달려 있었더라. 그리고 그것이 다윗의 머리 위에 씌워졌더라. 그리고 그가 그 도시의 노획물을 꺼냈으니, 대단히 풍부한 양이었더라.
30 And he took their king's crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David's head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
31 그리고 그가 그 안에 있던 백성을 끌어내어 그들을 톱들과 쇠써레들과 쇠도끼들 아래에다 집어넣었고, 그들로 하여금 벽돌 가마를 통과하게 하였더라. 그리고 그가 암몬의 후손들의 모든 도시들에 이와 같이 행하였더라. 그렇게 하여 다윗과 온 백성이 예루살렘으로 되돌아왔더라.
31 And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.
