1 그때 주께서 회오리바람 속에서 욥에게 대답하여 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
2 “지식이 없는 말들로 이치를 어둡게 하는 이 자가 누구냐?
2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
3 이제 남자답게 너의 허리를 동여매라. 이는 내가 너에게 질문을 던질 것이기 때문이니, 너는 나에게 대답하라.
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
4 내가 땅의 기초들을 놓을 때 너는 어디에 있었느냐? 만일 네게 명철이 있다면 분명히 밝히라.
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 만일 네가 안다면 대답하라. 누가 그것의 치수들을 부여하였느냐? 아니면 누가 그 위에 측량줄을 펼쳤느냐?
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 어디 위에 그것의 기초들을 고정시켰느냐? 아니면 누가 그것의 모퉁잇돌을 놓았느냐?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
7 언제 새벽 별들이 함께 노래하였으며, 하나님의 아들들이 모두 즐거움으로 환호하였느냐?
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 아니면 바다가 마치 태에서 쏟아져 나오듯 그것이 터져 나왔을 때 누가 문들로 바다를 가두어 두었느냐?
8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
9 언제 내가 구름에게는 그것의 의복을, 짙은 흑암에게는 그것을 위한 포대기를 만들어 주었으며,
9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
10 또 언제 그것을 위하여 나의 지정된 장소를 터뜨렸고 빗장들과 문들을 세우며
10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
11 말하기를, ‘너는 여기까지만 올지니라. 그러나 더 나아가지는 말라. 그리하여 너의 교만한 파도들은 여기에 머무르게 될지니라.’ 하였느냐?
11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
12 너의 날들 이래 네가 아침에게 명령한 적이 있으며, 여명이 그의 처소를 알도록 한 적이 있느냐?
12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
13 그리하여 그것이 땅의 끝들을 붙잡도록 하고, 사악한 자들로 하여금 그것에서 흔들리게 한 적이 있느냐?
13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
14 그것이 인장에 쓰는 진흙같이 변하는도다. 또 그것들이 의복같이 서 있도다.
14 It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
15 또 사악한 자들로부터 나오던 그들의 빛은 억제되고 높은 팔은 부러지는도다.
15 And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
16 너는 바다의 샘들 속으로 들어간 적이 있느냐? 아니면 너는 깊은 곳을 탐사하면서 걸었던 적이 있느냐?
16 Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
17 사망의 대문들이 너에게 열린 적이 있느냐? 아니면 너는 사망의 그림자의 문들을 본 적이 있느냐?
17 Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
18 너는 땅의 너비를 안 적이 있느냐? 만일 네가 그것을 다 알거든 분명히 밝히라.
18 Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
19 빛이 거하는 길이 어디에 있느냐? 또 어둠으로 말하자면 그것의 처소는 어디에 있느냐?
19 Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
20 곧, 네가 그것을 데려다가 그것의 한계선에 이르게 해야만 하고, 또 네가 그것의 집으로 이르는 행로들을 알아야만 하는 어둠의 처소가 어디에 있느냐?
20 That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
21 네가 그것을 아는 것이 네가 그때 태어났기 때문이냐? 아니면 너의 날수가 대단히 많기 때문이냐?
21 Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
22 너는 눈의 금고들에 들어간 적이 있느냐? 아니면 너는 우박의 금고들을 본 적이 있느냐?
22 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
23 내가 그것들을 곤경의 때를 대비하여, 전투와 전쟁의 날을 대비하여 간직해 두었느니라.
23 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
24 동풍을 땅 위에 흩어 놓는 빛이 어느 길로 갈라지느냐?
24 By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
25 범람하는 물들로 인하여 누가 물길을 나누었느냐? 혹은 천둥의 번개로 인하여 누가 길을 나누었느냐?
25 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
26 이는 그것으로 하여금 사람이 아무도 없는 땅 위와, 사람이 아무도 없는 광야 위에 비를 내리게 하는 것이요,
26 To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
27 황량하고 불모지가 된 지면을 만족시키는 것이요, 연한 풀잎의 싹이 솟아나게 하는 것이라.
27 To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
28 비에게 아버지가 있느냐? 아니면 이슬방울들은 누가 낳았느냐?
28 Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
29 얼음은 누구의 태에서 나왔느냐? 하늘의 백색 서리, 그것은 또 누가 태어나게 하였느냐?
29 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
30 물들은 돌로 숨긴 듯 숨겨졌고 깊음의 표면은 얼어 있느니라.
30 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
31 너는 플레이아데스의 그윽한 감응력들을 싸매거나 오리온의 띠들을 풀 수 있겠느냐?
31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
32 너는 마자롯을 그의 시기에 꺼낼 수 있느냐? 아니면 너는 아르크투루스와 그의 아들들을 인도해 낼 수 있느냐?
32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
33 너는 하늘의 법령들을 아느냐? 너는 땅 안에 그것의 통치권을 둘 수 있느냐?
33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
34 너는 너의 목소리를 구름들까지 높여 물들의 풍부함이 너를 덮도록 할 수 있느냐?
34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
35 너는 번개들을 보내서 그들로 하여금 가서 너에게 말하기를, ‘우리가 여기 있나이다.’ 하게 할 수 있느냐?
35 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
36 누가 심중에 지혜를 두었느냐? 아니면 누가 마음에 명철을 주었느냐?
36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
37 누가 지혜로 구름들을 셀 수 있느냐? 아니면 누가 하늘의 병들을 받쳐 줄 수 있느냐?
37 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
38 진토가 딱딱해질 때까지 자라고 흙덩이들이 함께 단단하게 달라붙을 때 그리할 수 있느냐?
38 When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
39 네가 사자를 위하여 먹이를 사냥하거나 젊은 사자들의 식욕을 채우겠느냐?
39 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
40 사자들이 그들의 굴들 속에서 웅크리며, 잠복처에서 숨어 기다리려고 거할 때 그리하겠느냐?
40 When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
41 누가 까마귀를 위하여 그의 양식을 제공하느냐? 그의 어린것들이 하나님을 향하여 울고 그것들이 음식의 부족으로 인하여 방황할 때 누가 양식을 제공하느냐?
41 Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
