1 그러는 동안 사람들의 무수한 무리가 한데 모여 그들이 서로를 밟을 정도가 되었을 때, 그분께서는 자신의 제자들에게 우선적으로 이같이 말씀하기 시작하셨느니라. “너희는 바리새파 사람들의 누룩, 곧 위선을 경계하라.

1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

2 이는 덮어진 것 중 드러나지 않을 것은 아무것도 없고 숨겨진 것 중에도 알려지지 않을 것은 아무것도 없기 때문이라.

2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

3 그러므로 너희가 어둠 속에서 이야기해 온 것은 무엇이나 빛 가운데서 들리리라. 그리고 너희가 골방들 안에서 귓속에다 이야기해 온 것은 옥상들에서 공포되리라.

3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

4 그런즉 나의 친구들인 너희에게 내가 말하노니, ‘몸을 죽인 뒤에 더 이상 그들이 할 수 있는 것이 없는 자들을 무서워하지 말라.’

4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

5 그러나 나는 너희가 두려워해야 할 분에 대하여 너희에게 미리 경고하겠으니, 죽인 후에 지옥에 던져 넣는 권능이 있으신 그분을 두려워하라. 진정, 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘그분을 두려워하라.’

5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

6 참새 다섯 마리가 이 파딩⁶에 팔리지 아니하냐? 그런데도 하나님 앞에서는 그것들 중 한 마리도 잊히지 아니하느니라.

6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

7 그러나 심지어 너희 머리에 있는 바로 그 머리카락들까지도 모두 계수되었느니라. 그러므로 두려워하지 말라. 수많은 참새들보다 너희가 더 가치 있느니라.

7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

8 또한 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘누구든지 사람들 앞에서 나를 시인하면 인자 역시 하나님의 천사들 앞에서 그를 시인하리라.

8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

9 그러나 사람들 앞에서 나를 부인하는 자는 하나님의 천사들 앞에서 부인되리라.

9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

10 그런즉 누구든지 인자를 대적하여 말 한마디를 하면, 그것이 그에게 용서되리라. 그러나 성령을 대적하여 신성 모독하는 자에게는 그것이 용서되지 아니하리라.

10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

11 그리고 그들이 너희를 회당들로 데려가고, 행정관들과 권세자들에게 데려갈 때면 너희는 자신이 어떻게 혹은 어떤 것을 대답해야 할지 또는 자신이 무엇을 말해야 할지 전혀 걱정하지 말라.

11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

12 이는 성령께서 바로 그 시각에 너희가 무엇을 응당 말해야 할지 너희에게 가르쳐 주실 것이기 때문이라.’”

12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

13 ¶ 그러자 일행 중 한 명이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “스승이여, 저의 형제가 저와 유산을 나누도록 그에게 말하여 주소서.” 하였더라.

13 ¶ And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

14 그러자 그분께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “사람아, 누가 나를 너희 위에 판관이나 재산 분할자로 삼았더냐?” 하셨느니라.

14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?

15 그러고 나서 친히 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “탐욕을 주의하고 경계하라. 이는 사람의 생명이 자신이 소유한 것들의 풍요함에 있는 것이 아니기 때문이라.” 하셨느니라.

15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

16 그리고 그분께서 그들에게 비유로 말씀하시며 이르기를, “어떤 한 부유한 사람의 경지가 풍요롭게 결실을 냈느니라.

16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 그러자 그가 자기 속으로 생각하며 말하기를, ‘내가 무엇을 할까? 이는 내가 나의 결실들을 보관할 공간이 전혀 없기 때문이라.’ 하였더라.

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18 그러면서 그가 이같이 말하였더라. ‘내가 이렇게 하리라. 내가 나의 곳간들을 허물어뜨리고 더 거대하게 건축하리라. 그리하여 거기에 내가 나의 모든 결실들과 나의 소유물들을 보관하리라.

18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 그런 다음에 나는 나의 혼에게 말하기를, ‘나의 혼아, 너는 여러 해를 대비하여 많은 소유물들을 쌓아 올렸도다. 너는 안락을 누리면서 먹고 마시며 즐거워하라.’ 하리라.’

19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 그러나 하나님께서는 그에게 말씀하시기를, ‘너 어리석은 자야, 이 밤에 너에게서 너의 혼이 요구되리라. 그때 네가 마련해 온 그것들이 누구의 것이 되겠느냐?’ 하셨느니라.

20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

21 자신을 위하여 보물을 쌓아 올리면서도 하나님을 향해서는 부유하지 못한 자가 그와 같도다.”

21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

22 ¶ 이어서 그분께서 자신의 제자들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “그러므로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘너희 생명을 위하여 너희가 무엇을 먹을까 전혀 걱정하지 말라. 또한 몸을 위하여 너희가 무엇을 입을까 전혀 걱정하지 말라.’

22 ¶ And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

23 생명이 음식보다 중하고 몸이 의상보다 중하니라.

23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

24 까마귀들을 숙고하여 보라. 이는 그것들이 뿌리지도 거두지도 아니하기 때문이니, 그것들은 저장고들이나 곳간들도 없으나 하나님께서 그것들을 먹이시는도다. 하물며 그 날짐승들보다 너희가 얼마나 더 나으냐?

24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

25 그리고 너희 중 누가 걱정함으로써 자신의 키에 일 큐빗을 보탤 수 있겠느냐?

25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

26 만일 너희가 가장 작은 그 일도 하지 못하거든 그렇다면 어찌하여 너희가 나머지 일들을 걱정하느냐?

26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

27 백합들이 어떻게 자라는지 그것들을 숙고하여 보라. 그것들은 애써 일하지 않으며 그것들은 실을 잣지도 아니하나 그럼에도 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 자신의 모든 영광 가운데 있던 솔로몬도 이것들 중 하나만큼 차려입혀지지 아니하였느니라.

27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

28 그런즉 하나님께서 오늘 들에 있다가 내일 화덕에 던져지는 그 풀도 그렇게 옷 입히시거늘, 오, 믿음이 적은 너희들아, 하물며 그분께서 너희를 얼마나 더 잘 입히시겠느냐?

28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

29 그런즉 너희가 무엇을 먹을까 또는 너희가 무엇을 마실까 스스로 구하지 말며 너희는 의심하는 생각을 품지 말라.

29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

30 이는 이 모든 것들은 세상의 민족들이 추구하고 있는 것들이기 때문이라. 그런즉 너희 아버지께서는 너희가 이런 것들을 필요로 하는 줄 아시느니라.

30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

31 ¶ 그러나 오히려 너희는 하나님의 왕국을 구하라. 그리하면 이 모든 것들이 너희에게 더하여지리라.

31 ¶ But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

32 적은 양 무리야, 두려워하지 말라. 이는 너희에게 왕국을 주는 것이 너희 아버지의 선한 기쁨이기 때문이라.

32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

33 너희가 소유한 것을 팔고 자선을 베풀라. 너희 자신을 위해 낡아지지 않는 가방들을 마련하고, 고갈되지 않고 하늘들 안에 있는 보물을 마련하라. 그곳은 어떤 도둑도 접근하지 않으며 좀나방이 변질시키지도 않느니라.

33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

34 이는 너희 보물이 있는 곳에는 너희 마음도 있을 것이기 때문이라.

34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

35 너희 허리에 허리띠를 두르고 너희의 빛들이 타오르게 하라.

35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

36 그리고 너희 자신은 자신들의 소유주가 결혼식에서 되돌아올 때 그를 기다리는 사람들과 같으니, 그가 와서 문을 두드릴 때 그들이 그에게 즉시 열어 줄 수 있게 하려 함이라.

36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

37 그 소유주가 왔을 때 그가 깨어 있는 것을 발견할 그 종들은 복되도다. 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘그는 스스로 띠를 두르고 그들을 음식 앞에 앉힌 다음에 앞으로 나와서 그들을 섬기리라.’

37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

38 그리고 만일 그가 제이경에 오거나 제삼경에 왔을 때 그들이 그렇게 하고 있는 것을 발견한다면 그 종들은 복되도다.

38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

39 그리고 이것을 알라. 만일 그 집의 가장이 몇 시에 도둑이 오는지 알고 있었다면 그는 깨어 있었을 것이요, 그의 집이 뚫리는 것을 용납하지 아니하였으리라.

39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

40 그러므로 너희 역시 준비하라. 이는 인자가 너희가 생각하지 않은 어떤 시각에 오기 때문이라.”

40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

41 ¶ 그때 베드로가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “주여, 당신께서 이 비유를 우리에게 말씀하시는 것이니이까? 아니면 모두에게도 말씀하시는 것이니이까?” 하였더라.

41 ¶ Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?

42 이에 주께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “그렇다면 그의 소유주가 자기 집안사람들에게 그들 몫의 음식을 적합한 시기에 주기 위하여 자기 집안을 다스리는 자로 삼을 그 신실하고 지혜로운 청지기가 누구냐?

42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

43 그의 소유주가 와서 그렇게 하고 있는 것을 그가 발견하면 그 종은 복되도다.

43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

44 내가 너희에게 진실되이 말하노니, 그는 그 종을 자신이 소유한 모든 것을 다스리는 자로 삼으리라.

44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

45 그런데 그럼에도 만일 그 종이 자기 마음속으로 말하기를, ‘나의 소유주께서 자신의 오심을 연기하시는도다.’ 하고는 남종들과 시녀들을 때리며 먹고 마시고 취하기 시작한다면,

45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

46 그 종의 소유주는 그 종이 그 소유주를 고대하지 않는 어느 날에, 곧 그가 자각하지 않고 있는 어느 시각에 오리니, 그를 잘라 낼 것이요, 그에게 믿지 않는 자들과 더불어 그의 몫을 지정하리라.

46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

47 그리고 자기 소유주의 뜻을 알고도 스스로 예비하지 않았고 그의 뜻대로 행하지도 않은 그 종은 많은 채찍들로 맞으리라.

47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

48 그러나 그의 뜻을 몰라서 채찍들로 맞을 만한 짓들을 저지른 자는 채찍들로 적게 맞으리라. 이는 누구든지 많이 주어지는 자에게는 많이 요구될 것이요, 사람들이 많이 맡긴 자에게는 그들이 더 많이 요구할 것이기 때문이라.

48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

49 ¶ 나는 지상에 불을 보내려고 왔노라. 그런즉 만일 이미 불이 지펴졌다면 내가 무엇을 원하겠느냐?

49 ¶ I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

50 그러나 나에게는 그것으로 침례받아야 할 침례가 있으니, 그것이 성취될 때까지 내가 얼마나 답답하겠느냐!

50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

51 너희는 내가 땅 위에 화평을 주러 온 것이라 생각하느냐? 내가 너희에게 이르노니, ‘아니니라. 그보다는 오히려 분열을 주러 온 것이라.’

51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

52 이는 이제부터 한 집에 다섯이 분열하리니, 셋이 둘을 대적하고, 둘이 셋을 대적할 것이기 때문이라.

52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

53 아버지가 아들을 대적할 것이요, 아들은 아버지를 대적할 것이요, 어머니는 딸을 대적할 것이요, 딸은 어머니를 대적할 것이요, 시어머니는 며느리를 대적할 것이요, 며느리는 시어머니를 대적하여 분열하리라.”

53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

54 ¶ 또한 그분께서 백성에게도 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희는 구름이 서쪽에서 떠오르는 것을 볼 때면 너희가 즉각 말하기를, ‘소나기가 오는구나.’ 하는도다. 그리고 그것이 그렇게 되느니라.

54 ¶ And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.

55 또한 너희는 남풍이 부는 것을 볼 때면 너희가 말하기를, ‘덥겠구나.’ 하는도다. 그리고 그러한 일이 일어나느니라.

55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.

56 너희, 위선자들아, 너희가 창공의 현상과 땅의 현상은 분별할 수 있으나, 이 시대는 너희가 분별하지 아니하니 어찌 된 것이냐?

56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

57 그런즉 진정 어찌하여 너희는 너희 자신에 관한 것조차 무엇이 옳은지 판단하지 아니하느냐?

57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

58 ¶ 너는 너의 대적과 함께 행정관에게 갈 때면 네가 길에 있는 동안 그에게서 네가 구출될 수 있도록 주력하라. 이는 그가 너를 판관에게 잡아끌고 간 후에 판관이 너를 관원에게 넘겨서 그 관원이 너를 감옥에 던져 넣을까 함이라.

58 ¶ When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.

59 내가 너에게 이르노니, 네가 바로 그 마지막 일 마이트⁷를 정확히 지불할 때까지 너는 그곳을 떠나지 못하리라.”

59 I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
