1 이제 티베리우스 카이사르의 통치 십오 년째가 되던 해, 곧 본디오 빌라도가 유대의 총독으로 있고, 헤롯이 갈릴리의 분봉왕으로 있으며, 그의 형제 빌립이 이투래아의 분봉왕이자 트라코니티스 구역의 분봉왕으로 있고, 루사니아스가 아빌레네의 분봉왕으로 있으며,

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,

2 안나스와 카야파스가 대제사장들로 있을 때, 하나님의 말씀이 광야 가운데 있는 사카랴의 아들 요한에게 임하였더라.

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

3 그러자 그는 요르단 근방의 모든 지방에 이르러 죄들의 사면으로 인하여 회개의 침례를 선포하였더라.

And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

4 예언자 이사-야의 말씀들의 책 안에 기록된 바와 같도다. 말씀하시기를, “광야 가운데서 외치는 이의 음성이라. ‘너희는 주의 길을 예비하라. 그분의 행로들을 곧게 하라.

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

5 모든 골짜기마다 메워질 것이요, 모든 산과 언덕마다 낮아질 것이요, 휘어진 곳들은 곧게 될 것이요, 험한 길들은 평탄하게 될 것이라.

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

6 그리하여 모든 육체가 하나님의 구원을 보리라.’” 하신 것이라.

And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

7 그때 그가 자신에게 침례를 받으러 나아온 무리에게 이같이 말하였더라. “오, 독사들의 세대야, 누가 너희에게 다가올 진노를 피하라고 경고하였느냐?

Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 그러므로 회개의 합당한 열매들을 내라. 그리고 자기 속으로 말하기 시작하기를, ‘우리는 아브라함을 우리의 조상으로 두고 있다.’ 하지 말라. 이는 내가 너희에게 말하기를, ‘하나님께서 이 돌들로도 능히 아브라함에게 자녀들을 일으키실 수 있도다.’ 하기 때문이라.

Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

9 그리고 이제 또한 도끼가 나무들의 뿌리에 놓여 있노라. 그러므로 좋은 열매를 내지 아니하는 나무마다 찍혀 쓰러지고 불속에 던져지느니라.”

And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

10 그러자 백성이 그에게 물으며 말하기를, “그렇다면 우리가 무엇을 하리이까?” 하였더라.

And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

11 그가 그들에게 대답하며 말하기를, “두 벌의 웃옷이 있는 자, 그는 아무것도 없는 자에게 나누어 줄지니라. 그리고 음식이 있는 자, 그도 마찬가지로 행할지니라.” 하니라.

He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

12 그때 세리들 또한 침례를 받으려고 왔으며 그분께 말씀드리기를, “스승이여, 우리가 무엇을 하리이까?” 하였더라.

Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?

13 그러자 그가 그들에게 말하기를, “너희에게 지정된 것 이상은 아무것도 착취하지 말라.” 하였더라.

And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.

14 그리고 마찬가지로 군인들도 그에게 질문을 던지며, “그러면 우리는 무엇을 해야 하리이까?” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 그들에게 말하기를, “아무에게도 폭력을 행하지 말고 어떤 이도 거짓으로 고소하지 말며 너희의 품삯으로 만족하라.” 하였더라.

And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

15 그러자 백성이 기대 가운데 있었으므로 요한이 그리스도일까 아닐까 하고 모든 사람들이 자기 마음속에서 그에 관하여 유심히 생각하였더라.

And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;

16 요한이 답하여 그들 모두에게 이같이 말하였더라. “나는 정녕 너희에게 물로 침례를 주지만, 나보다 더 막강하신 분께서 오시나니, 나는 그분의 신발들의 끈을 풀 자격도 없느니라. 그분께서 너희에게 성령님으로 침례를 주시고 불로 침례를 주시리라.

John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

17 그분의 키가 그분의 손에 들려 있으며, 그분께서 자신의 마당을 철저히 깨끗하게 치우실 것이요, 밀알을 자신의 곡식 창고 안으로 모으시리라. 그러나 쭉정이는 그분께서 꺼지지 않는 불로 태우시리라.”

Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

18 그러면서 그 자신은 다른 많은 것들을 권면하며 백성에게 선포하였더라.

And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.

19 그러나 분봉왕 헤롯은 자신의 형제인 빌립의 아내 헤로디아스로 인하여 그리고 헤롯이 행한 모든 악한 일들로 인하여 요한에게 책망을 받았으며

But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,

20 더군다나 이 모든 것 위에 이것을 더하였으니, 곧 그가 요한을 감옥에 가둔 것이라.

Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

21 이제 모든 백성이 침례를 받았을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 예수님께서도 침례를 받으시며 기도하시는데 하늘이 열린 것이라.

Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

22 그리고 성령님께서 비둘기 같은 몸의 형태로 그분 위에 내려오셨고 하늘에서부터 한 음성이 나왔으니 그 음성이 말씀하시기를, “너는 나의 사랑을 받는 아들이라. 내가 네 안에서 매우 기뻐하노라.” 하셨더라.

And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

23 이후에 예수님 자신은 막 삼십 세쯤 되셨더라. 그분은 요셉의 아들로 (사람들에 의하여 생각되었기에), 요셉은 헬리의 아들이었고,

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

24 헬리는 맛닷의 아들이었고, 맛닷은 레위의 아들이었고, 레위는 멜키의 아들이었고, 멜키는 얀나의 아들이었고, 얀나는 요셉의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

25 요셉은 맛타디아스의 아들이었고, 맛타디아스는 아모스의 아들이었고, 아모스는 나움의 아들이었고, 나움은 에슬리의 아들이었고, 에슬리는 낙게의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,

26 낙게는 마앗의 아들이었고, 마앗은 맛타디아스의 아들이었고, 맛타디아스는 세메이의 아들이었고, 세메이는 요셉의 아들이었고, 요셉은 유-다의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda,

27 유-다는 요안나의 아들이었고, 요안나는 레사의 아들이었고, 레사는 조로바벨의 아들이었고, 조로바벨은 살라디엘의 아들이었고, 살라디엘은 네리의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri,

28 네리는 멜키의 아들이었고, 멜키는 앗디의 아들이었고, 앗디는 코삼의 아들이었고, 코삼은 엘모담의 아들이었고, 엘모담은 엘의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of Er,

29 엘은 요세의 아들이었고, 요세는 엘리에젤의 아들이었고, 엘리에젤은 요림의 아들이었고, 요림은 맛닷의 아들이었고, 맛닷은 레위의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi,

30 레위는 시므온의 아들이었고, 시므온은 유-다의 아들이었고, 유-다는 요셉의 아들이었고, 요셉은 요난의 아들이었고, 요난은 엘리아킴의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim,

31 엘리아킴은 멜레아의 아들이었고, 멜레아는 메난의 아들이었고, 메난은 맛타다의 아들이었고, 맛타다는 나단의 아들이었고, 나단은 다윗의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,

32 다윗은 이새의 아들이었고, 이새는 오벳의 아들이었고, 오벳은 보오즈의 아들이었고, 보오즈는 살몬의 아들이었고, 살몬은 나아손의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Booz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson,

33 나아손은 아미나답의 아들이었고, 아미나답은 아람의 아들이었고, 아람은 에스롬의 아들이었고, 에스롬은 파레스의 아들이었고, 파레스는 유-다의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda,

34 유-다는 야곱의 아들이었고, 야곱은 이삭의 아들이었고, 이삭은 아브라함의 아들이었고, 아브라함은 데라의 아들이었고, 데라는 나콜의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor,

35 나콜은 사룩의 아들이었고, 사룩은 라가우의 아들이었고, 라가우는 팔렉의 아들이었고, 팔렉은 헤벨의 아들이었고, 헤벨은 살라의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,

36 살라는 카이난의 아들이었고, 카이난은 아르팍삿의 아들이었고, 아르팍삿은 셈의 아들이었고, 셈은 노-아의 아들이었고, 노-아는 라멕의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,

37 라멕은 마두살라의 아들이었고, 마두살라는 에녹의 아들이었고, 에녹은 야렛의 아들이었고, 야렛은 말렐르엘의 아들이었고, 말렐르엘은 카이난의 아들이었고,

Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan,

38 카이난은 에노스의 아들이었고, 에노스는 셋의 아들이었고, 셋은 아담의 아들이었고, 아담은 하나님의 아들이었느니라.

Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
