1 가뭄에 관하여 예레미야에게 임한 주의 말씀이라.
1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.
2 유다가 애곡하고 그곳의 대문들이 쇠약하도다. 그들이 지면 위에서 검도다. 그리고 예루살렘의 부르짖음이 위로 올라갔도다.
2 Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
3 그리고 그들의 귀족들이 그들의 어린것들을 물들로 보냈도다. 그들이 구렁들에 와서 물을 발견하지 못하였더라. 그들이 자신들의 빈 그릇들을 가지고 되돌아왔도다. 그들은 부끄럽고 당혹스러워 자신들의 머리를 가렸도다.
3 And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.
4 밭을 가는 사람들이 부끄러워하였고, 그들은 자신들의 머리를 가렸으니, 토양이 갈라지기 때문이요, 땅에 비가 없었던 까닭이라.
4 Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.
5 진정 암사슴도 들에서 새끼를 낳고는 그것을 버렸으니, 풀이 없었던 까닭이라.
5 Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.
6 그리고 야생 나귀들은 높은 곳들 안에 섰는데, 그것들이 용들처럼 킁킁거리며 바람 냄새를 맡았도다. 그들의 눈이 쇠하였으니, 풀이 없었던 까닭이라.
6 And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
7 ¶ 오, 주여, 저희의 죄악들이 저희를 대적하여 증언할지라도 당신의 이름을 위하여 친히 그것을 행하소서. 이는 저희의 타락들이 많기 때문이니이다. 저희는 당신을 대적하여 죄를 지었나이다.
7 ¶ O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.
8 오, 이스라엘의 소망이여, 곤경의 때에 이스라엘의 구원자여, 어찌하여 당신께서는 그 지역에서 타국인과 같고, 하룻밤을 머무르려고 길을 트는 도보 여행자와 같으시나이까?
8 O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?
9 어찌하여 당신께서는 경악한 사람 같으시며 막강한 사람이 구원하지 못하는 것과 같으시나이까? 오, 주여, 그럼에도 당신께서는 저희 한복판에 계시나니, 저희는 당신의 이름으로 불리나이다. 우리를 떠나지 마소서.
9 Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
10 ¶ 주가 이 백성에게 이같이 말하노라. 그들이 이와 같이 방황하는 것을 사랑하였도다. 그들은 자신들의 발을 삼가지 아니하였도다. 그러므로 주가 그들을 받아 주지 아니하노라. 그는 이제 그들의 죄악을 기억하고 그들의 죄들을 벌하리라.
10 ¶ Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
11 그때 주께서 나에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “이 백성을 위하여 그들의 축복을 간구하지 말라.
11 Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.
12 그들이 금식할 때 나는 그들의 부르짖음을 듣지 아니할 것이요, 그들이 번제물과 헌납물을 바칠 때 나는 그것들을 받아들이지 아니하겠노라. 오히려 나는 칼과 기근과 역병으로 그들을 소멸시키겠노라.”
12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.
13 ¶ 그때 내가 이같이 말씀드렸도다. “아, 주 하나님이여! 보소서. 예언자들이 그들에게 말하기를, ‘너희가 칼을 보지 아니할 것이요, 너희는 기근을 겪지도 아니하리라. 오히려 이곳 안에서 내가 너희에게 보장된 화평을 주겠노라.’ 하였나이다.”
13 ¶ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.
14 그러자 주께서 나에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “예언자들이 나의 이름으로 거짓말들을 예언하는도다. 나는 그들을 보내지 아니하였고, 나는 그들에게 명령하지도 아니하였으며, 그들에게 말하지도 아니하였노라. 그들은 너희에게 거짓 현시와 점괘와 무가치한 것과 그들 마음의 속임수를 예언하는도다.
14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.
15 그러므로 내가 그들을 보내지 아니하였음에도 그들이 내 이름으로 예언하며 말하기를, ‘칼과 기근이 이 지역 안에 있지 아니하리라.’ 하는 예언자들에 관하여 주가 이같이 말하노라. 그러한 예언자들은 칼과 기근에 의하여 소멸되리라.
15 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
16 그리고 그들이 예언을 전한 그 백성은 기근과 칼로 인하여 예루살렘의 거리들 안에서 쫓겨나리라. 그리고 그들은 자신들을 장사할 자를 아무도 얻지 못하리니, 그들과 그들의 아내들이 그러하고, 그들의 아들들도, 그들의 딸들도 그러하리라. 이는 내가 그들의 사악함을 그들 위에 쏟을 것이기 때문이라.”
16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
17 ¶ 그러므로 너는 이 말을 그들에게 전하라. 나의 눈들은 밤낮으로 눈물들을 흘려 보낼지어다. 그리고 그것들은 그치지 말지어다. 이는 엄청난 파열과 몹시 참혹한 타격으로 나의 백성의 처녀 딸이 부서졌기 때문이라.
17 ¶ Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.
18 가령 내가 들로 나가면, 그때는 칼로 살해당한 자들을 보는도다! 그리고 내가 도시 안으로 진입하면, 그때는 기근으로 병든 자들을 보는도다! 진정 예언자와 제사장이 모두가 자신들이 모르는 어느 지역 안으로 서성이는도다.
18 If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.
19 당신께서 유다를 아주 거절하셨나이까? 당신의 혼이 시온을 역겨워하셨나이까? 어찌하여 당신께서 저희를 치셨으며 저희를 위한 치유가 없나이까? 저희가 화평을 고대하였는데 좋은 것이 없나이다. 그리고 치유의 때를 고대하였는데 곤경을 목도하나이다!
19 Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!
20 오, 주여, 저희의 사악함과 저희 조상들의 죄악을 저희가 인정하나이다. 이는 저희가 당신을 대적하여 죄를 지었기 때문이니이다.
20 We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.
21 당신의 이름을 위하여 부디 저희를 혐오하지 마소서. 당신의 영광의 보좌를 망신거리가 되게 하지 마소서. 저희와 함께 맺으신 당신의 언약을 기억하시고 파기하지 마소서.
21 Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
22 비를 내리게 할 수 있는 누군가가 이방인들의 헛된 것들 가운데 있나이까? 아니면 하늘들이 소나기들을 내릴 수 있나이까? 오, 주 우리 하나님이여, 그분은 당신이 아니시나이까? 그러므로 저희는 당신을 기다리겠나이다. 이는 당신께서 이 모든 것들을 만드셨기 때문이니이다.
22 Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
