1 그러고 나서 이러한 일이 있었으니, 유다 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야킴의 제사년에 주께로부터 예레미야에게 이 말씀이 임하였으니, 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 “너는 두루마리로 된 책 한 권을 가져다가 내가 너에게 말한 그날부터, 곧 요시야의 날들부터 이날에 이르기까지 내가 이스라엘을 대적하고 유다를 대적하며 모든 민족들을 대적하여 너에게 전한 모든 말들을 그 안에 기록하라.
2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
3 혹여나 유다의 집이 내가 그들에게 행하려고 결단한 모든 해악을 들으리니, 그들 모두가 저마다 자신의 악한 길에서 되돌아오게 하려 함이라. 이로써 나는 그들의 죄악과 그들의 죄를 용서할 수 있느니라.”
3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
4 그때 예레미야가 네리야의 아들 바룩을 불렀더라. 그리하여 바룩이 예레미야의 입에서 나온 주의 모든 말씀들, 곧 그분께서 그에게 말씀하신 것들을 두루마리로 된 책 한 권 위에 기록하였더라.
4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
5 그러고 나서 예레미야가 바룩에게 명령하며 이같이 말하였더라. “나는 갇혀 있노라. 나는 주의 집 안으로 들어갈 수 없도다.
5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:
6 그러므로 너는 가서 나의 입에서 받아 네가 두루마리 안에 기록한 주의 말씀들을 낭독하되, 금식하는 날에 주의 집 안에서 백성의 귀에다 낭독하라. 그리고 너는 또한 자신들의 도시들에서 나오는 유다 전체의 귀에다 그것들을 낭독하라.
6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD'S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
7 혹여나 그들이 주 앞에서 자신들의 간구를 드리면서 모두 저마다 자신의 악한 길에서 떠나 되돌아올까 함이라. 이는 주가 이 백성을 대적하여 천명한 분노와 노여움이 엄청나기 때문이라.”
7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.
8 그러자 네리야의 아들 바룩이 주의 집 안에서 그 책 안에 있는 주의 말씀들을 낭독함으로써 예언자 예레미야가 자신에게 명령한 모든 것에 따라 실행하였더라.
8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD'S house.
9 이후에 유다 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야킴의 제오년 아홉째 달에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들이 예루살렘에 있는 모든 백성과, 유다의 도시들에서 예루살렘에 나아온 모든 백성에게 주 앞에서 금식을 포고하였더라.
9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
10 그때 바룩이 주의 집 안에서, 곧 주의 집 새로운 문의 출입구에 있는 더 높은 뜰 안, 서기관 샤판의 아들 그마리야의 방실에서 그 책 안에 있는 예레미야의 말들을 모든 백성의 귀에다 낭독하였더라.
10 Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house, in the ears of all the people.
11 ¶ 샤판의 자손이자 그마리야의 아들인 믹하야가 그 책에서 나온 주의 모든 말씀들을 듣자,
11 ¶ When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,
12 그때 그가 왕의 집 안으로 내려가서 서기관의 방실로 들어갔더라. 그런데 보라, 모든 통치자들이 거기 앉아 있었으니, 곧 서기관 엘리샤마, 셰마야의 아들 들라야, 악볼의 아들 엘나단, 샤판의 아들 그마리야, 하나니야의 아들 시드키야와 모든 통치자들이더라.
12 Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
13 그때 믹하야는 바룩이 백성의 귀에다 그 책을 낭독할 때 자신이 들었던 모든 말씀들을 그들에게 공개하였더라.
13 Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
14 그러므로 모든 통치자들이, 쿠쉬의 자손이자 셸레미야의 자손이자 느다니야의 아들인 여후디를 바룩에게 보내며 말하기를, “네가 백성의 귀에다 낭독한 것이 적힌 두루마리를 너의 수중에 챙겨 오라.” 하였더라. 그러므로 네리야의 아들 바룩이 그 두루마리를 자신의 수중에 챙겨서 그들에게로 갔더라.
14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
15 그런 다음에 그들이 그에게 말하기를, “이제 앉아서 그것을 우리의 귀에다 낭독하라.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 바룩이 그것을 그들의 귀에다 낭독하였더라.
15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.
16 이때 그들이 모든 말씀들을 듣자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들은 모두가 서로 무서워하였고 바룩에게 말하기를, “우리가 반드시 이 모든 말들을 왕에게 알리겠노라.” 하였더라.
16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
17 그러고 나서 바룩에게 물으며 말하기를, “지금 우리에게 털어놓으라. 네가 어떻게 예레미야의 입에서 이 모든 말씀들을 받아서 기록하였느냐?” 하였더라.
17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?
18 그때 바룩이 그들에게 대답하기를, “그가 나에게 이 모든 말씀들을 자신의 입으로 소리 내서 읽어 주었고 나는 그것들을 잉크로 책 안에 기록하였도다.” 하였더라.
18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.
19 그때 통치자들이 바룩에게 말하기를, “가라. 너를 숨기되, 너와 예레미야가 함께 숨으라. 그리하여 너희가 어디에 있는지 어떤 사람도 모르게 하라.” 하였더라.
19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
20 ¶ 그런 다음에 그들이 뜰 안에 있는 왕에게로 들어갔으나, 그들이 서기관 엘리샤마의 방실 안에 그 두루마리를 올려놓고 왕의 두 귀에 모든 말씀들을 알렸더라.
20 ¶ And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
21 그렇기에 왕이 여후디를 보내서 그 두루마리를 대령하게 하였더라. 그런즉 그가 서기관 엘리샤마의 방실에서 그것을 가져왔더라. 그런 다음에 여후디가 왕의 두 귀와, 왕의 곁에 선 모든 통치자들의 두 귀에다 그것을 낭독하였더라.
21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
22 이때 왕은 아홉째 달에 겨울 별채 안에 앉아 있었더라. 그리고 왕 앞에는 불타는 화로 위에 불이 있었더라.
22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
23 이윽고 여후디가 서너 쪽을 낭독하였을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그가 펜을 만들 때 쓰는 작은 칼로 그것을 잘랐고, 화로 위에 있었던 불속에 그것을 던져 버렸으니, 화로 위에 있었던 불속에서 그 두루마리 전체가 소멸될 때까지 그리하였더라.
23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
24 그럼에도 그들이 무서워하지 아니하였고, 자신들의 의복들을 찢지도 아니하였으니, 이 모든 말씀들을 들은 왕도, 그의 종들 중 누구도 그리하지 아니하였더라.
24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
25 그럼에도 불구하고 엘나단과 들라야와 그마리야는 왕에게 중보를 드려서 그가 그 두루마리를 태우지 말 것을 아뢰었으나, 왕은 그들의 말을 들으려 하지 아니하였더라.
25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.
26 오히려 왕은 함멜렉의 아들 여라므엘과, 아즈리엘의 아들 스라야와, 압드엘의 아들 셸레미야에게 명령하여 서기관 바룩과 예언자 예레미야를 잡아 오게 하였더라. 그러나 주께서 그들을 숨기셨더라.
26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.
27 ¶ 그때 주의 말씀이 예레미야에게 임하였으니, 왕이 그 두루마리와 그 말씀들, 곧 바룩이 예레미야의 입에서 받아 기록한 말씀들을 불태운 이후에 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
27 ¶ Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28 “너는 다시 또 다른 두루마리를 가져와서 유다 왕 여호야킴이 태웠던 첫 번째 두루마리 안에 있었던 이전의 모든 말들을 그것 안에 기록하라.
28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.
29 그리고 너는 유다 왕 여호야킴에게 이같이 말하라. 주가 이같이 말하노라. 너는 이 두루마리를 태우며 말하기를, ‘어찌하여 너는 그 안에 기록하며 ‘바빌론 왕이 틀림없이 와서 이 지역을 멸망시키고 여기에서 사람과 짐승이 끊어지게 하리라.’ 하고 말하였느냐?’ 하였도다.
29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
30 그러므로 유다 왕 여호야킴에 관하여 주가 이같이 말하노라. 그에게서는 다윗의 보좌 위에 앉는 자가 아무도 없으리라. 그리고 그의 죽은 몸이 낮에는 더위에, 밤에는 서리에 내던져지리라.
30 Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31 그런즉 내가 그와 그의 씨와 그의 종들에게 그들의 죄악으로 인하여 형벌을 내리겠노라. 그리하여 내가 그들과 예루살렘의 거주자들과 유다 사람들 위에 내가 그들을 대적하여 천명해왔으나 그들이 경청하지 않았던 모든 해악을 가져오리라.”
31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.
32 ¶ 그때 예레미야가 다른 두루마리를 가져와서 네리야의 아들인 서기관 바룩에게 그것을 주었더라. 바룩이 유다 왕 여호야킴이 불로 태운 그 책의 모든 말씀들을 예레미야의 입에서 받아 그 안에 기록하였도다. 그리고 그것들 외에도 비슷한 여러 말씀들이 거기에 더하여졌더라.
32 ¶ Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
