1 그때 분봉왕 헤롯이 예수님의 명성을 들었더라.
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2 그러면서 그의 신하들에게 말하기를, “이 사람은 침례자 요한이로다. 그가 죽은 자들로부터 살아난 것이니 그러므로 막강한 역사들이 그 안에서 스스로 나타나는도다.” 하였더라.
2 And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
3 ¶ 이는 헤롯이 요한을 잡아 두고 그를 결박하였으며, 자기 형제 빌립의 아내 헤로디아스로 인하여 그를 감옥에 집어넣었기 때문이라.
3 ¶ For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
4 이는 요한이 그에게 말하기를, “그녀를 차지하는 것은 당신께 합법적이지 않나이다.” 하였기 때문이라.
4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5 이에 그가 그를 사형에 처하게 하려고 할 때 그가 무리를 두려워하였으니, 그들이 그를 예언자로 여겼기 때문이라.
5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6 그러나 헤롯의 생일이 축하받을 때, 헤로디아스의 딸이 그들 앞에서 춤을 추었고 헤롯을 기쁘게 하였더라.
6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
7 그 때문에 그가 그녀가 구하는 것은 무엇이나 그녀에게 주겠다고 맹세로 약속하였더라.
7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
8 그러자 그녀가 그녀의 어머니에게 미리 지도를 받은 상태이므로 말하기를, “여기서 침례자 요한의 머리를 쟁반에 담아 제게 주소서.” 하였더라.
8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.
9 그러자 왕이 애석해하였더라. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 맹세와, 자신과 함께 앉아 식사하고 있던 자들로 인하여 그가 그것이 그녀에게 주어지도록 명령하였더라.
9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
10 그리하여 그가 사람을 보내었고 감옥에서 요한을 참수하였더라.
10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11 그런 다음에 그의 머리는 쟁반에 옮겨져 그 젊은 여인에게 주어졌더라. 그러자 그녀는 그것을 자기 어머니에게 가져갔더라.
11 And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
12 그러고 나서 요한의 제자들이 왔고 시신을 수습하여 그것을 장사하였으며 가서 예수님께 아뢰었더라.
12 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
13 ¶ 예수님께서 그것에 대해 들으셨을 때, 그분께서 선박을 이용하여 거기를 떠나 따로 떨어져 있는 외딴곳으로 가셨더라. 그리하여 사람들이 그것에 관하여 듣자 그들이 도시들에서 나와 도보로 그분을 따랐더라.
13 ¶ When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14 그러자 예수님께서 앞으로 가서 수많은 무리를 보셨고 그들을 향한 연민으로 마음이 움직이셨더라. 이에 그분께서 그들의 병든 자들을 치유하셨더라.
14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
15 ¶ 그리고 저녁이 되자 그분의 제자들이 그분께 와서 말씀드리기를, “이곳은 외딴곳이며 이제 때도 지났나이다. 무리가 촌락들로 들어가서 자신들이 먹을거리들을 살 수 있도록 그들을 돌려보내소서.” 하였더라.
15 ¶ And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
16 그러나 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “그들은 떠날 필요가 없느니라. 너희가 그들에게 먹을 것을 주라.” 하셨느니라.
16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
17 그러자 그들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “우리는 여기에 오직 다섯 덩이의 빵과 두 마리의 물고기만 가지고 있나이다.” 하니라.
17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “그것들을 여기 나에게로 가져오라.” 하셨느니라.
18 He said, Bring them hither to me.
19 그리고 그분께서 무리에게 잔디 위에 앉도록 명령하셨더라. 그리고 다섯 덩이의 빵과 두 마리의 물고기를 취하셨으며 하늘을 올려다 보시면서 친히 그 빵 덩이들에 복을 주신 뒤에 찢으시고 그의 제자들에게 주셨으니, 그 제자들이 무리에게 그것을 주었더라.
19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
20 그러자 그들이 다 먹고 배가 채워졌더라. 그런 다음에 그들이 남은 조각들을 열두 바구니에 가득 거두었더라.
20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
21 그리하여 먹은 자들은 여자들과 아이들 이외에도 남자들만 약 오천 명이었더라.
21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
22 ¶ 그러자 즉각 예수님께서는 자기 제자들에게 강권하시어, 자신이 무리들을 돌려보내는 동안 선박을 타고 자신보다 앞서 건너편으로 가게 하셨더라.
22 ¶ And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 그리하여 그분께서 무리들을 돌려보내신 후에 그분께서 기도하려고 어떤 산속으로 따로 올라가셨더라. 그리고 저녁이 되자 그분께서 거기에 홀로 계셨더라.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24 그러나 이때 그 선박이 바다 한가운데 있었고 파도들에 요동쳤더라. 이는 바람이 역방향이었기 때문이라.
24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25 그런데 밤 제사경에 예수님께서 바다 위를 걸어 그들에게 가셨더라.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26 이에 제자들이 바다 위를 걸으시는 그분을 보자 그들은 불안해하며 말하기를, “그것은 어떤 영이로다.” 하였더라. 그러면서 그들이 두려워하여 소리를 질렀더라.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27 그러나 즉각 예수님께서 그들에게 일러 말씀하시기를, “좋은 기운을 내라. 나로다. 무서워하지 말라.” 하셨느니라.
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 그러자 베드로가 그분께 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “주여, 만일 당신이시라면, 물 위로 당신께 오라고 저에게 분부하소서.” 하였더라.
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 그러자 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “오라.” 하셨느니라. 이에 베드로가 그 선박에서 내려오자 그가 예수님께 가기 위해 물 위를 걸었더라.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 그러나 그가 바람이 휘몰아치는 것을 보았을 때 그가 무서워하였더라. 그리하여 가라앉기 시작하니, 그가 소리치며 말씀드리기를, “주여, 저를 구원하소서.” 하였더라.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 그러자 즉시 예수님께서 그분의 손을 뻗으시어 그를 잡으셨으니 그에게 말씀하시기를, “오, 너, 믿음이 적은 자여, 어찌 네가 의심하였느냐?” 하셨느니라.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 그런 다음에 그들이 그 선박 안으로 들어가자 바람이 그쳤더라.
32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
33 그때 그 선박에 있던 자들이 와서 그분께 경배하며 말씀드리기를, “참으로 당신께서는 하나님의 아들이시니이다.” 하였더라.
33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
34 ¶ 그리하여 그들이 건너간 후에 게네사렛 지역으로 그들이 들어갔더라.
34 ¶ And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
35 그러고 나서 그곳 사람들이 그분을 알아보자 그들이 주변의 모든 지방으로 사람을 떠나보내어 그분께 질병이 있는 자들을 모두 데려왔더라.
35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
36 그러자 그들이 그분의 의복의 옷단만이라도 만지게 해달라고 그분께 간청하였더라. 그리하여 그분을 만졌던 자들은 다 완전히 온전하여졌더라.
36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
