1 바로 그때 제자들이 예수님께 와서 말씀드리기를, “하늘의 왕국에서 가장 위대한 자는 누구니이까?” 하였더라.

1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2 그러자 예수님께서 어린아이 한 명을 자신에게로 부르셨으며, 그들 한가운데에 그를 세우셨더라.

2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3 그리고 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘너희가 회심하여 어린아이들과 같이 되지 아니하면, 너희는 하늘의 왕국 안으로 들어가지 못하리라.’

3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4 그러므로 누구든지 이 어린아이처럼 스스로 겸손하게 하면 그와 같은 자는 하늘의 왕국에서 가장 위대한 자니라.

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 그리하여 누구라도 내 이름으로 이러한 어린아이 한 명을 받아들일 자는 나를 받아들이는 것이라.

5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6 그러나 누구라도 나를 믿는 이 어린이들 중 한 명을 실족시키는 자는 그의 목 주위에 연자 맷돌 한 짝이 걸린 채 그가 바다 깊은 곳에 빠져 죽게 되는 것이 그에게 더 나으니라.

6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

7 ¶ 실족하게 하는 일들로 인하여 세상에 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 실족하게 하는 일들이 반드시 임할 필요가 있기 때문이나, 실족하게 하는 일을 일으키는 그 사람에게는 화가 있기를 바라노라!

7 ¶ Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

8 이러한 이유로 만일 너의 손이나 너의 발이 너를 실족시킨다면 그것들을 잘라내고 너에게서 그것들을 던져 버리라. 네가 절뚝이거나 불구가 되어 생명으로 들어가는 것이 차라리 두 손이나 두 발을 가진 채 영원한 불속으로 던져지는 것보다 더 나으니라.

8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

9 그리고 만일 너의 눈이 너를 실족시킨다면 그것을 뽑아내서 너에게서 그것을 던져 버리라. 네가 한 쪽 눈을 지닌 채 생명 안으로 들어가는 것이 두 눈을 가진 채 지옥 불속으로 던져지는 것보다 더 나으니라.

9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

10 너희가 이 어린이들 중 한 명이라도 멸시하지 않도록 주의하라. 이는 내가 너희에게 말하기를, ‘하늘에서는 그들의 천사들이 하늘에 계신 나의 아버지의 얼굴을 항상 뵙고 있느니라.’ 하기 때문이라.

10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

11 이는 인자가 잃어버린 자를 구원하려고 온 것이기 때문이라.

11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

12 너희는 어떻게 생각하느냐? 만일 어떤 사람이 일백 마리의 양을 가지고 있는데 그들 중 한 마리가 길을 잃었다면, 그가 아흔아홉 마리를 남겨 두고 산들 속으로 들어가서 길 잃은 그 양을 찾지 않겠느냐?

12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

13 이후에 만일 이처럼 되어 그가 그것을 발견한다면, 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 그는 길을 잃지 않았던 아흔아홉 마리로 인하여 기뻐하는 것보다 그 양으로 인하여 더 크게 기뻐하리라.

13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

14 바로 이와 같이 이 어린이들 중 한 명이라도 멸망하는 것은 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 뜻이 아니니라.

14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

15 ¶ 이뿐만 아니라 만일 너의 형제가 너를 거슬러 범법한다면 가서 너와 그의 사이에서만 그의 잘못을 그에게 알려주라. 만일 그가 너의 말을 듣는다면 너는 너의 형제를 얻은 것이라.

15 ¶ Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

16 그러나 만일 그가 너의 말을 들으려 하지 않는다면 그때 너와 함께 한두 명을 더 데려가라. 이는 모든 말마다 두세 증인의 입으로 확립되게 하려 함이라.

16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

17 이후에 만일 그가 그들의 말 듣기를 등한시한다면 그것을 교회에게 알리라. 그러나 만일 그가 교회의 말 듣기를 등한시한다면 너는 그를 이교도와 세리같이 여기라.

17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

18 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘무엇이든지 너희가 지상에서 묶으면 하늘에서 묶일 것이요, 무엇이든지 너희가 지상에서 풀면 하늘에서 풀리리라.’

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 또다시 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘만일 너희 가운데 두 명이 어떤 것이라도 자신들이 구할 것과 관련하여 지상에서 의견을 일치하면, 하늘에 계신 나의 아버지에 의하여 그것이 그들에게 이루어지리라.’

19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20 이는 두세 사람이 내 이름으로 함께 모이는 곳, 거기에 나도 그들의 한가운데 있기 때문이라.”

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

21 ¶ 그때 베드로가 그분께 나아와 말씀드리기를, “주여, 나의 형제가 나를 거슬러 죄를 지었는데 얼마나 자주 내가 그를 용서하여야 하리이까? 일곱 번까지니이까?” 하였더라.

21 ¶ Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 예수님께서 그에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “나는 너에게 ‘일곱 번까지’라고 말하지 아니하노라. 오히려 ‘일흔 번씩 일곱 번까지’라고 하노라.

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

23 ¶ 그러므로 하늘의 왕국은 자기 종들에게서 회계 보고를 받는 어떤 왕에 비유되느니라.

23 ¶ Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

24 그리하여 그가 계산하기 시작했을 때 한 명이 그에게 끌려왔는데 그는 일만 달란트를 그에게 빚졌더라.

24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

25 그러나 그가 지불할 돈이 없었기에, 그의 소유주가 명령하기를 그와 그의 아내와 자녀들과 그가 가진 전부가 매각되도록 하여 지불금이 마련되게 하라고 하였더라.

25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

26 그러므로 그 종이 엎드려서 그분께 경배하며 말하기를, ‘주여, 저를 참아주소서. 그리하면 제가 당신께 모두 지불하겠나이다.’ 하였더라.

26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

27 그때 그 종의 소유주는 연민으로 마음이 움직여 그를 풀어 주었고 그 빚을 그에게 탕감해 주었더라.

27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

28 그러나 바로 그 종이 나가서 자기 동료 종들 중 하나를 발견하였는데, 그는 그에게 일백 펜스¹⁰를 빚진 자였더라. 이에 그는 그를 두 손으로 붙잡았고 그의 멱살을 잡으며 말하기를, ‘네가 나에게 빚진 것을 지불하라.’ 하였더라.

28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

29 그러자 그의 동료 종이 그의 발 앞에 엎드려 그에게 간청하며 말하기를, ‘나를 참아 주게. 그리하면 내가 자네에게 모두 지불하겠네.’ 하였더라.

29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30 그런데 그는 그렇게 하려 하지 않았더라. 오히려 가서 그가 그 빚을 지불할 때까지 그를 감옥에 집어넣었더라.

30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 그렇게 하여 그의 동료 종들이 일어난 일을 보자 그들이 몹시 애석해하였고 그들의 소유주께 와서 일어난 일을 모두 아뢰었더라.

31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32 그때 그가 그 종을 불렀고 그 후에 그의 소유주가 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. ‘오, 너, 사악한 종아, 네가 나에게 애걸하였기 때문에 나는 그 모든 빚을 너에게 탕감해 주었도다.

32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

33 내가 너에게 동정심을 가졌던 바로 그와 같이 너 역시 너의 동료 종에게 연민을 가졌어야 하지 않겠느냐?’

33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

34 그러면서 그의 소유주가 진노하여 채무였던 전액을 그가 자신에게 지불할 때까지 그를 고문하는 자들에게 넘겨주었더라.

34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35 그런즉 만일 너희가 너희의 마음에서 각자 자신의 형제에게 그들의 범법들을 용서하지 않는다면 나의 하늘 아버지께서도 너희에게 이와 같이 행하시리라.”

35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
