1 그러고 나서 이러한 일이 있었으니, 예수님께서 이 모든 말씀들을 마치시자 그분께서 자신의 제자들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.

And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,

2 “너희도 알다시피 이틀 뒤엔 유월절이라. 그리하면 인자가 배반당하여 십자가에 못 박히리라.”

Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

3 그때 수석 제사장들과 서기관들과 백성의 장로들이 카야파스라고 불리는 대제사장의 관저에서 서로 회동하였더라.

Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

4 그리고 그들이 예수님을 간교함으로 붙잡고자, 그리고 그분을 죽이고자 협의하였더라.

And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

5 그러나 그들이 말하기를, “명절날에는 아니 되나니, 백성 가운데 소동이 없도록 하려 함이라.” 하였더라.

But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

6 ¶ 이제 예수님께서 베다니에 있는 나병 환자 시몬의 집 안에 계셨을 때,

¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 한 여자가 매우 귀한 향유가 담긴 설화 석고 함을 가지고 그분께 나아와서, 그분께서 앉아 식사하고 계셨을 때 그분의 머리 위에 그것을 부었더라.

There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

8 그러나 그분의 제자들이 그것을 보았을 때, 그들이 격분하며 이같이 말하였더라. “무슨 목적으로 이것을 낭비하느냐?

But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

9 이는 이 향유가 비싸게 팔려서 가난한 자들에게 주어질 수 있었기 때문이라.”

For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

10 예수님께서 이를 알게 되셨을 때 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “그녀가 나에게 선한 일을 하였거늘 어찌하여 너희는 그 여자를 곤란하게 하느냐?

When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

11 그러므로 가난한 자들은 항상 너희와 함께 있으나 나는 너희와 항상 함께 있지는 아니하니라.

For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

12 이는 그녀가 나의 장례를 위하여 그것을 하였기 때문이니, 곧 그녀가 내 몸에 이 향유를 부은 것이라.

For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

13 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘이 복음이 선포될 온 세상 어느 곳에서나 이 여자가 행한 이 일 역시 그녀를 기념하기 위하여 알려지리라.’”

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

14 ¶ 그때 열둘 중 하나인 유-다 이스카리옷이라 불리는 자가 수석 제사장들에게로 갔으며

¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

15 그들에게 말하기를, “내가 그분을 너희에게 넘겨주겠으니, 너희는 나에게 무엇을 주겠느냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 그들이 은화 삼십 개로 그와 언약을 맺었더라.

And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

16 그런즉 그가 그때부터 그분을 배반할 기회를 찾았더라.

And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

17 ¶ 이제 무교절 첫째 날에 제자들이 예수님께 나아와서 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신께서 유월절 어린양을 드시도록 우리가 어디서 예비하기를 당신께서는 원하시나이까?” 하였더라.

¶ Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

18 그러자 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “도시로 들어가 이와 같은 남자에게로 가서 그에게 말하라. ‘스승님께서, ‘나의 때가 가깝도다. 내가 너의 집에서 나의 제자들과 함께 유월절을 지키겠노라.’ 하고 말씀하시나이다.’” 하셨느니라.

And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

19 그런즉 제자들이 예수님께서 자신들에게 임명하신 대로 행하였으니, 그들이 유월절 어린양을 예비하였더라.

And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

20 이제 저녁이 되자 그분께서는 그 열둘과 함께 앉으셨더라.

Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

21 그리고 그들이 먹는 동안 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘너희 중 하나가 나를 배반할 것이라.’” 하셨느니라.

And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

22 그러자 그들은 극도로 슬픔에 찼으니, 그들이 저마다 그분께 말씀드리기 시작하기를, “주여, 그것이 저입니까?” 하였더라.

And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

23 이에 그분께서 대답하여 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “나와 함께 접시 안에 그의 손을 넣는 자, 바로 그가 나를 배반하리라.

And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

24 인자는 자신에 대하여 기록된 대로 가거니와 그 사람에 의해 인자가 배반당하나니, 그에게는 화가 있기를 바라노라! 만일 그가 태어나지 않았더라면 그것이 그 사람에게 좋았으리라.”

The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

25 그때 그분을 배반한 유-다가 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “스승님, 그것이 저입니까?” 하였더라. 그분께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “네가 말하였도다.” 하셨느니라.

Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

26 ¶ 그리고 그들이 먹고 있는 동안에 예수님께서 빵을 집으시고 그것에 복을 주신 후에 그 빵을 찢으시고 제자들에게 그것을 주시며 말씀하시기를, “받아 먹으라. 이것은 나의 몸이라.” 하셨느니라.

¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 또한 그분께서는 잔을 집으시고 감사들을 드리신 후에 그 잔을 그들에게 주시며 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희는 그것을 모두 마시라.

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 이는 이것이 죄들의 사면으로 인하여 많은 이들을 위하여 흘려지는 새 유언 언약에 속한 나의 피이기 때문이라.

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 그러나 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘나는 이제부터 이 포도나무의 열매에서 난 것은 내가 나의 아버지의 왕국에서 너희와 함께 새것으로 그것을 마시는 그날까지 마시지 않겠노라.’”

But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

30 그러고 나서 그들이 찬송 한 곡을 부른 후에 그들은 밖으로 나가 올리브산 속으로 들어갔더라.

And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

31 그때 예수님께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “너희 모두는 이 밤에 나로 인하여 실족하게 되리라. 이는 기록되기를, ‘내가 목자를 치리니, 양 무리의 양들이 멀리 흩어지리라.’ 하였기 때문이라.

Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

32 그러나 내가 다시 살아난 후에 나는 너희보다 앞서 갈릴리로 가겠노라.”

But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

33 베드로가 그분께 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “비록 모든 사람들이 당신으로 인하여 실족하게 될지라도 그럼에도 저는 결코 실족하게 되지 않을 것이니이다.” 하였더라.

Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

34 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “진실로 내가 너에게 말하노니, ‘이 밤에 수탉이 울기 전에 네가 나를 세 번 부인하리라.’” 하셨느니라.

Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

35 베드로가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “제가 당신과 함께 죽어야 할지언정 그럼에도 저는 당신을 부인하지 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라. 모든 제자들도 이와 같이 말하였더라.

Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

36 ¶ 그때 예수님께서 그들과 함께 겟세마네라고 불리는 장소에 이르시어 제자들에게 말씀하시기를, “내가 가서 저쪽에서 기도하는 동안 너희는 여기에 앉아 있으라.” 하시니라.

¶ Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

37 그리고 그분께서 베드로와 세배대의 두 아들을 자신과 함께 데려가셨으니, 슬픔에 차서 몹시 비통해하기 시작하셨더라.

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38 그때 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “내 혼이 극도로 슬픔에 차서 죽을 지경이라. 너희는 여기에 머무르고 나와 함께 깨어 있으라.” 하시니라.

Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39 이에 그분께서 조금 멀리 가시어 자신의 얼굴을 대고 엎드려서 기도하며 말씀하시기를, “오, 나의 아버지여, 만일 그것이 가능하시거든, 이 잔을 제게서 지나가게 하여 주시옵소서. 그럼에도 불구하고 제 뜻대로 하지 마옵시고 다만 당신의 뜻대로 하옵소서.” 하셨느니라.

And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 그런 다음에 그분께서 제자들에게 오셔서 그들이 잠든 것을 발견하셨으니 베드로에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “무엇이냐, 너희는 나와 함께 한 시간도 깨어 있을 수 없었더냐?

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 너희가 시험에 들지 않도록 깨어서 기도하라. 정녕 영은 원하나 육신이 약하도다.”

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 그분께서 두 번째 다시금 나아가시어 기도하며 말씀하시기를, “오, 나의 아버지여, 만일 제가 이 잔을 마시지 않고는 그것이 제게서 지나갈 수 없다면 당신의 뜻이 이루어지기를 바라나이다.” 하셨느니라.

He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

43 그러고 나서 그분께서 오셨는데 그들이 다시 잠든 것을 발견하셨더라. 이는 그들의 눈이 무거웠기 때문이라.

And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

44 그러고 나서 그분께서 그들을 떠나 다시 나아가셨고 동일한 말씀들로 세 번째 기도하며 말씀하셨더라.

And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

45 그때 그분께서 자기 제자들에게 오시어 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “너희는 이제 그대로 자고 쉬라. 보라, 그 시각이 가까우니, 인자가 배반당하여 죄인들의 손안에 넘겨지느니라.

Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

46 일어나라. 우리 함께 가자. 보라, 나를 배반하는 자가 이미 도착했도다.”

Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

47 ¶ 그러자 그분께서 아직 말씀하고 계시는 동안, 보라, 열둘 중 하나인 유-다가 왔으니, 수석 제사장들과 백성의 장로들로부터 수많은 무리가 칼들과 몽둥이들을 들고 그와 함께 왔더라.

¶ And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48 이때 그분을 배반한 자가 그들에게 신호를 주며 말하기를, “누구든지 내가 입 맞추는 바로 그 사람이 그니라. 그를 단단히 붙잡으라.” 하였더라.

Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

49 그러고는 그가 곧바로 예수님께 나아와 말씀드리기를, “스승님, 강녕하소서.” 하고 그분께 입 맞추었더라.

And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

50 그러자 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “친구여, 네가 어찌 왔느냐?” 하셨느니라. 그때 그들이 와서 예수님께 손을 대어 그분을 잡았더라.

And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

51 그런데 보라, 예수님과 함께 있던 자들 중 한 명이 자신의 손을 뻗어 자기 칼을 빼고 대제사장의 종 한 명을 내리쳐서 그의 귀를 베어 냈더라.

And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

52 그때 예수님께서 그에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너의 칼을 제자리에 다시 꽂으라. 이는 칼을 잡는 자들은 모두 칼로 망하기 때문이라.

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

53 너는 내가 지금이라도 나의 아버지께 기도하여 그분께서 즉시로 열두 군단이 넘는 천사들을 나에게 보내시도록 할 수 없다고 생각하느냐?

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

54 그러나 그렇게 하면 그것이 반드시 그와 같이 되리라고 한 성경 기록들이 어떻게 성취되겠느냐?”

But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

55 바로 그 시각에 예수님께서 무리들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희가 어떤 도둑을 대적하듯 칼들과 몽둥이들을 가지고 나를 잡으러 나왔느냐? 나는 성전에서 가르치면서 매일 너희와 함께 앉아 있었는데 너희는 나를 전혀 붙잡지 아니하였노라.

In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

56 그러나 예언자들의 성경 기록들이 성취되게 하려고 이 모든 일이 이루어졌느니라.” 그때 모든 제자들이 그분을 저버리고 도망하였더라.

But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

57 ¶ 그러자 예수님을 붙잡은 자들이 그분을 대제사장 카야파스에게로 끌고 나갔으니, 서기관들과 장로들이 소집된 곳이었더라.

¶ And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

58 그러나 베드로는 멀찍이 떨어져서 대제사장의 관저까지 그분을 따랐으며 그 결말을 보고자 들어가서 그 종들과 함께 앉았더라.

But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

59 이때 수석 제사장들과 장로들과 온 공회가 예수님을 사형에 처하게 하려고 그분을 대적할 거짓 증인을 구하였더라.

Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

60 그러나 전혀 발견하지 못하였으니, 진정 비록 많은 거짓 증인들이 왔으나 그들이 전혀 발견하지 못하였더라. 마지막으로 두 명의 거짓 증인들이 왔으며

But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

61 말하기를, “이 사내가, ‘나는 능히 하나님의 성전을 파괴하고 삼 일 만에 그것을 지을 수 있노라.’라고 말하였나이다.” 하였더라.

And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

62 이에 대제사장이 일어났으며 그분께 말하기를, “너는 아무것도 대답하지 않느냐? 이들이 너를 대적하여 증거하는 것이 무엇이냐?” 하였더라.

And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

63 그러나 예수님께서는 자신의 침묵을 지키셨더라. 이에 대제사장이 그분께 대답하여 말하기를, “내가 너에게 살아 계신 하나님으로 엄명하노니, 네가 하나님의 아들인 그리스도인지를 너는 우리에게 알리라.” 하였더라.

But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

64 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “네가 말하였도다. 그럼에도 불구하고 나는 너희에게 말하노니, ‘이후로는 인자가 권능의 오른편에 앉아 있는 것과 하늘의 구름들 가운데 오는 것을 너희가 보리라.’” 하시니라.

Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

65 그때 대제사장이 자기 옷을 찢으며 말하기를, “그가 신성 모독하는 말을 하였도다. 어찌 우리에게 더 증인들이 필요하겠는가? 보라, 지금 너희는 그가 신성 모독하는 말을 들었도다.

Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

66 너희는 어떻게 생각하느냐?” 하였더라. 그들이 대답하여 말하기를, “그는 사형에 해당하는 죄를 지었나이다.” 하였더라.

What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67 그때 그들이 그분의 얼굴에 침 뱉으며 그분을 주먹으로 쳤더라. 그러자 다른 이들은 그분을 자신들의 손바닥으로 치며

Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

68 말하기를, “너, 그리스도여, 우리에게 예언하라. 너를 친 자는 누구냐?” 하였더라.

Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

69 ¶ 이때 베드로는 관저의 바깥에 앉아 있었더라. 그런데 젊은 여인이 그에게 와서 말하기를, “당신 역시 갈릴리의 예수와 함께 있었도다.” 하였더라.

¶ Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

70 그러나 그는 그들 모두 앞에서 부인하며 말하기를, “나는 네가 무슨 말을 하는지 모르노라.” 하였더라.

But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

71 그러고 나서 그가 나가 현관 쪽으로 들어간 후에 또 다른 하녀가 그를 보았고 거기에 있던 자들에게 말하기를, “이 사내 역시 나사렛의 예수와 함께 있었도다.” 하였더라.

And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

72 그러자 다시금 그가 맹세로 부인하며, “나는 그 사람을 모르노라.” 하였더라.

And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

73 그러고 나서 조금 있다가 곁에 서 있던 자들이 그에게 와서 베드로에게 말하기를, “확실히 너도 그들 중 하나라. 이는 너의 말투가 너를 드러내기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

74 그때 그가 저주하고 맹세하기 시작하며 말하기를, “나는 그 사람을 모르노라.” 하였더라. 그러자 즉시 수탉이 울었더라.

Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

75 이에 베드로가 그에게 “수탉이 울기 전에 네가 나를 세 번 부인하리라.” 말씀하신 예수님의 말씀을 기억하였더라. 그리하여 그가 나가서 비통하게 울었더라.

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
