1 이후에 주의 말씀이 나에게 임하였으니, 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 “사람의 아들아, 이스라엘 집에게 수수께끼를 내고 비유를 전하라.
2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;
3 그리하여 이같이 말하라. 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 커다란 날개들이 달려 있고 날개가 길며 다채로운 색깔들을 띤 깃털들로 무성한 거대한 독수리가 레바논으로 와서 백향목의 가장 높은 가지를 취하였도다.
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
4 그가 그의 잔가지들의 맨 윗부분들을 잘라 내서 그것을 교역 지역 안으로 실어 갔도다. 그가 그것을 상인들의 도시 안에 두었도다.
4 He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.
5 그는 또한 그 대지의 씨를 취하여 열매로 가득한 들판에 그것을 심었도다. 그가 그것을 거대한 물들 곁에 두고 그것을 버드나무같이 세웠도다.
5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.
6 그러자 그것이 자라났으니, 낮은 키의 퍼져 나가는 포도나무가 되었도다. 그것의 가지들은 그를 향하여 돌아섰고 그것의 뿌리들은 그의 아래에 있었도다. 이처럼 그것이 포도나무가 되었고 가지들을 내놓았으며 새싹들을 틔웠도다.
6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
7 또한 커다란 날개들과 많은 깃털들이 달린 또 다른 거대한 독수리가 있었으니, 보라, 이 포도나무가 그를 향하여 그녀의 뿌리들을 구부렸고 그를 향하여 그녀의 가지들을 냈으니, 그로 하여금 그녀의 재배지에 속한 고랑들로 그것에 물을 주게 하려 함이라.
7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.
8 그 포도나무가 거대한 물들 곁에 있는 옥토에 심겨졌으니, 그것이 가지들을 내놓게 하려 함이요, 그것이 열매를 맺게 하려 함이요, 그것이 우수한 포도나무가 되게 하려는 것이었도다.
8 It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
9 너는 이같이 말하라. 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 그 포도나무가 번영하겠느냐? 그가 그것의 뿌리들을 뽑아 버리고 그것의 열매를 잘라 내서 그것을 시들게 하지 아니하겠느냐? 그것의 뿌리를 잡고 그것을 뽑아 버리려고 막대한 기력이나 많은 백성이 동원되지 아니하여도 그것이 그녀의 새싹에서 난 모든 잎사귀들을 시들게 하리라.
9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.
10 보라, 진정 그 심겨 있는 포도나무가 번영하겠느냐? 동풍이 그것에 닿을 때면 그것이 아주 시들어 버리지 아니하겠느냐? 그것이 자란 그 고랑들 안에서 그것이 시들리라.”
10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.
11 ¶ 이와 더불어 주의 말씀이 나에게 임하였으니, 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
11 ¶ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
12 “이제 반역하는 그 집에 말하기를, ‘이런 것들이 무엇을 뜻하는지 너희가 모르느냐?’ 하라. 그들에게 알리라. ‘보라, 바빌론 왕이 예루살렘에 도착하였고 그곳의 왕과 그곳의 통치자들을 사로잡았고 자기와 함께 그들을 바빌론으로 끌고갔도다.
12 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;
13 그리고 왕의 씨 중에서 한 명을 취하여 그와 언약을 맺었으며 그에게서 맹세를 받아 냈도다. 그는 그 지역의 막강한 자들까지 잡아갔도다.
13 And hath taken of the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:
14 이는 그 왕국을 천하게 하려 함이요, 그것이 스스로를 치켜세우지 못하게 하려는 것이며, 오히려 그의 언약을 지키는 것을 통해서만 그것이 서게 하려 함이라.
14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.
15 그러나 그가 자신의 대사들을 이집트로 보냄으로써 바빌론 왕을 대적하여 반역하였으니, 그들이 그에게 말들과 많은 백성을 주려 함이라. 그가 형통하겠느냐? 그러한 짓들을 행하는 자가 모면하겠느냐? 그가 언약을 파기하고도 구출되겠느냐?
15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?
16 주 하나님이 말하노라. 내가 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니, 그가 그 왕의 언약을 멸시하였고, 그가 그 왕의 언약을 파기하였으므로, 반드시 그는 자신을 왕으로 세운 그 왕이 거하는 장소에서 죽으리니, 바로 그의 곁, 바빌론 한복판에서 죽으리라.
16 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
17 또한 파라오는 토루들을 쌓고 보루들을 건축하는 일에 있어서도, 많은 인물들을 끊기 위하여 전쟁에서 자신의 막강한 군사와 커다란 집단을 그에게 동원해 주지도 못하리라.
17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:
18 보라, 그가 자기 손을 내밀어 이 모든 일들을 행하였을 때 그가 그 언약을 파기함으로써 그 맹세를 멸시하였은즉 그가 모면하지 못하리라.
18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.
19 그러므로 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 내가 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니, 진정 그가 멸시한 나의 맹세와, 그가 파기한 나의 언약, 그것을 반드시 내가 그 자신의 머리 위에 갚겠노라.
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.
20 그리고 내가 나의 그물을 그의 위에 펼치겠으니, 그가 나의 올무에 잡히리라. 그리하면 나는 그를 바빌론으로 데려갈 것이요, 그가 나를 대적하여 범법한 그의 범법으로 인하여 거기서 그와 변론하겠노라.
20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.
21 그리고 그의 모든 도망자들과 그의 모든 부대들은 칼에 의하여 쓰러질 것이요, 남아 있는 자들은 모든 바람들 쪽으로 흩어지리라. 그리하면 너희는 나 주가 그것을 말하였다는 것을 알게 되리라.
21 And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.
22 ¶ 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 또한 내가 그 높은 백향목의 가장 높은 가지를 꺾어다가 그것을 세우겠노라. 내가 그의 어린 잔가지들의 맨 윗부분에서 연한 것을 잘라 내어, 높고도 치솟은 어느 산 위에 그것을 심겠노라.
22 ¶ Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:
23 내가 이스라엘의 높이에 속하는 산속에 그것을 심겠노라. 그리하면 그것이 원가지들을 내놓고 열매를 맺으며 우수한 백향목이 되리라. 그리하면 각종 모든 날개를 가진 날짐승들이 다 그 나무 아래에서 거하리라. 그것의 가지들의 그림자 아래에 그들이 거하리라.
23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
24 그리고 나 주가 높은 나무를 쓰러뜨리고 낮은 나무를 크게 높이며 푸른 나무를 말려 버리고 마른 나무를 무성하게 한 것을 들판의 모든 나무들이 알게 되리라. 나 주가 그것을 말하고 행하였노라.”
24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.
