1 그런즉 이것들은 이스라엘 자녀들이 가나안 지역 가운데서 상속한 지방들이니, 곧 제사장 엘르아잘과, 눈의 아들 여호수아와, 이스라엘 자녀들에 속한 지파들 중 아버지들의 수장들이 그들에게 유산으로 분배한 곳들이라.
1 And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.
2 아홉 지파들과 반 지파를 위해 그들의 유산이 제비에 의하여 결정되었으니, 주께서 모세의 손을 통하여 명령하신 대로였더라.
2 By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.
3 이는 모세가 요르단 건너편에서 두 지파들과 반 지파의 유산을 주었기 때문이라. 그러나 그가 레위인들에게는 그들 가운데 아무 유산도 주지 아니하였더라.
3 For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.
4 이는 요셉의 자녀들이 므낫세와 에프라임 두 지파였기 때문이라. 그러므로 그들이 그 지역 가운데서 레위인들에게 아무 지분도 주지 아니하였으니, 다만 그 안에 거할 도시들을 그들의 가축들과 그들의 재물을 위한 그곳들의 외곽 지역들과 함께 주었더라.
4 For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
5 주께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 이스라엘 자녀들이 그렇게 행하였으니, 그들이 토지를 분배하였더라.
5 As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.
6 ¶ 그때 유다의 자녀들이 길갈에 있는 여호수아에게 왔더라. 그리고 크네즈족 여푼네의 아들 칼렙이 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “주께서 하나님의 사람 모세에게 저와 당신에 관하여 카데시바네아에서 말씀하신 것을 당신께서 아시나이다.
6 ¶ Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea.
7 주의 종 모세가 그 지역을 정탐하라고 카데시바네아에서 저를 보냈을 때 저는 사십 세였나이다. 그런즉 제가 제 마음속에 있던 대로 그에게 다시 기별을 가져갔나이다.
7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
8 그럼에도 불구하고 저와 함께 올라간 저의 형제들은 백성의 마음을 녹게 하였나이다. 그러나 저는 주 나의 하나님을 온전히 따랐나이다.
8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.
9 그리하여 그날에 모세가 맹세하며 말하기를, ‘너의 두 발이 그 위를 밟은 그 지역이 반드시 너의 유산이 될 것이요, 영원토록 너의 자녀들의 것이 되리니, 네가 주 나의 하나님을 온전히 따른 까닭이라.’ 하였나이다.
9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.
10 그런즉 이제 보소서, 주께서 말씀하신 대로 그분께서 이 사십오 년 동안 저를 살려 두셨나니, 곧 주께서 이 말씀을 모세에게 말씀하신 이래 이스라엘 자녀들이 광야 가운데서 방황하는 동안 그리하셨나이다. 그런즉 이제 보소서, 이날 저는 팔십오 세니이다.
10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.
11 모세가 저를 보냈던 그날에 제가 강건하였던 것만큼, 이날도 저는 여전히 그러하나이다. 그때 제 힘이 그러하였듯이 지금도 전쟁을 위하여 나가기도 하고 들어오기도 할 만큼 제 힘이 그대로니이다.
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
12 그러므로 이제 주께서 그날에 이야기하신 이 산을 저에게 주소서. 이는 당신께서 그날 어떻게 아낙 족속들이 거기에 있었는지와 도시들이 거대하고 방비가 강화되어 있었다는 것을 들으셨기 때문이니이다. 만일 주께서 이처럼 저와 함께 계신다면 그때 저는 주께서 말씀하신 대로 그들을 내쫓을 수 있으리이다.”
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
13 그러자 여호수아가 그를 축복하였고 여푼네의 아들 칼렙에게 헤브론을 유산으로 주었더라.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
14 그러므로 헤브론이 크네즈족 여푼네의 아들 칼렙의 유산이 되어 오늘날까지 이르렀더라. 이는 그가 이스라엘의 주 하나님을 온전히 따랐기 때문이라.
14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.
15 그리고 예전에 헤브론의 이름은 키럇아르바였는데 그 아르바는 아낙 족속들 가운데 위대한 남자였더라. 그런즉 그 지역이 전쟁으로부터 안식하였더라.
15 And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
