1 이제 예리코는 이스라엘 자녀들로 인하여 엄히 폐쇄되어 있었으니, 아무도 나가지 아니하였고 아무도 들어오지 아니하였더라.
1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
2 그러자 주께서 여호수아에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “보라, 내가 예리코와 그곳의 왕과 막강한 용사들을 너의 손안에 주었도다.
2 And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
3 그런즉 너희, 곧 너희의 모든 전사들은 그 도시를 두르며 그 도시 주위를 한 번 돌라. 너는 육 일 동안 이와 같이 행할지니라.
3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
4 그리고 일곱 명의 제사장들은 숫양들의 뿔들로 된 나팔들 일곱 개를 법궤 앞에서 들지니라. 그리하여 일곱째 날에는 너희가 도시를 일곱 번 돌고 제사장들은 나팔들을 불지니라.
4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
5 그리하면 이러한 일이 있을지니, 제사장들이 숫양의 뿔로 긴 경보 소리를 낼 때, 곧 너희가 나팔의 소리를 들을 때면 모든 백성은 커다란 함성을 지를지니라. 그리하면 그 도시의 성벽이 완전히 무너져 내리리니, 백성은 저마다 자기 앞으로 곧장 올라갈지니라.”
5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
6 ¶ 그러자 눈의 아들 여호수아가 제사장들을 불러 그들에게 말하기를, “언약궤를 메라. 그리고 일곱 명의 제사장들로 하여금 주의 법궤 앞에서 숫양들의 뿔들로 된 일곱 나팔들을 들게 하라.” 하였더라.
6 ¶ And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.
7 그런 다음에 그가 백성에게 말하기를, “계속 나아가서 그 도시를 돌라. 그리고 무장되어 있는 자로 하여금 주의 법궤 앞으로 나아가게 할지니라.” 하였더라.
7 And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.
8 ¶ 그런즉 여호수아가 백성에게 이야기하였을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 숫양들의 뿔들로 된 일곱 나팔들을 든 일곱 명의 제사장들이 주 앞에서 나아가며 나팔들을 불었더라. 그리고 주의 언약궤가 그들을 따랐더라.
8 ¶ And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
9 ¶ 그런 다음에 무장된 남자들이 나팔들을 부는 제사장들에 앞서 갔으니, 후위대는 법궤를 따라갔고 제사장들은 나팔들을 불며 계속 나아갔더라.
9 ¶ And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
10 그러고 나서 여호수아가 백성에게 명령하며 말하기를, “너희는 고함을 지르지 말고, 너희 목소리로 어떤 소음도 내지 말지니라. 내가 너희에게 함성을 지르라고 분부하는 날까지는 너희 입에서 어떤 말도 나오지 않게 할지니라. 그때 비로소 너희는 함성을 지를지니라.” 하였더라.
10 And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
11 그렇게 하여 주의 법궤가 그 도시를 둘러 그곳 주위를 한 번 돌았더라. 그런 다음에 그들이 진영 안으로 들어와 진영 안에서 묵었더라.
11 So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
12 ¶ 이윽고 여호수아가 아침에 일찍 일어났고, 제사장들은 주의 법궤를 메었더라.
12 ¶ And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.
13 그리고 숫양들의 뿔들로 된 일곱 나팔들을 주의 법궤 앞에서 든 일곱 제사장들은 계속해서 나아가며 나팔들을 불었더라. 그리고 무장된 남자들이 그들 앞에서 갔더라. 그러나 후위대는 주의 법궤를 따라갔고 제사장들은 나팔들을 불며 계속 나아갔더라.
13 And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
14 이어서 둘째 날에도 그들이 그 도시를 한 번 돈 후에 진영 안으로 되돌아왔더라. 그들이 육 일 동안 그렇게 하였더라.
14 And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.
15 이어서 일곱째 날에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 날이 밝아 오는 무렵에 그들이 일찍 일어나서 같은 방식을 따라 그 도시를 일곱 번 돌았더라. 오직 그날에만 그들이 그 도시를 일곱 번 돌았더라.
15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
16 그러고 나서 일곱 번째에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 제사장들이 나팔들을 불었을 때 여호수아가 백성에게 이같이 말하였더라. “함성을 지르라. 이는 주께서 너희에게 그 도시를 주셨기 때문이라.
16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.
17 ¶ 그리고 그 도시, 곧 그것과 그 안에 있는 모든 것이 주께 저주를 받으리라. 오직 창녀 라합, 그녀만 살리니, 그녀와 함께 집 안에 있는 모두가 살리라. 이는 우리가 보낸 전령들을 그녀가 숨겨 준 까닭이라.
17 ¶ And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
18 그런즉 너희는 저주를 받은 것으로부터 기필코 너희 자신을 지킬지니, 너희가 저주를 받은 사물에서 무언가를 취할 때 너희 자신이 저주를 받지 않게 하려 함이요, 이스라엘 진영을 저주 거리로 만들어 그것이 곤경에 빠지지 않게 하려 함이라.
18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
19 다만 모든 은과 금은 주께 거룩히 구별되었으니, 놋과 철로 된 기물들도 모두 그리되었느니라. 그것들은 주의 금고 안으로 들일지니라.”
19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.
20 그렇게 하여 제사장들이 나팔들을 불었을 때 백성이 함성을 질렀더라. 그런즉 백성이 나팔 소리를 들었고 백성이 커다란 함성을 질렀을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 성벽이 완전히 무너져 내렸더라. 그렇게 하여 백성이 도시 안으로 올라갔고 각인이 자기 앞을 곧장 올라갔으니, 그들이 그 도시를 점령하였더라.
20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
21 그리하여 그들이 도시 안에 있던 모든 것을 모조리 멸하였으니, 남자와 여자와 젊은이와 늙은이와 소와 양과 나귀를 모두 칼날로 멸하였더라.
21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
22 한편 여호수아는 이미 그 나라를 정탐했던 두 사람에게 말하기를, “그 창녀의 집 안으로 들어가서 너희가 그녀에게 맹세한 대로 그 여자와 그녀에게 속한 모두를 거기서 데리고 나오라.” 했었더라.
22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
23 그러자 정탐꾼들이었던 청년들이 안으로 들어가서 라합과 그녀의 아버지와 그녀의 어머니와 그녀의 형제들과 그녀에게 속한 모두를 데리고 나왔더라. 그리하여 그들이 그녀의 모든 친족들을 데리고 나왔으니, 그들을 이스라엘의 진영 밖에 남겨 두었더라.
23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
24 그런 다음에 그들이 도시와 그 안에 있던 모든 것을 불로 태웠더라. 오직 은과 금은 그들이 주의 집의 금고 안에 두었으니, 놋으로 된 기물들과 철로 된 기물들도 그리하였더라.
24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
25 그리고 여호수아가 창녀 라합과 그녀의 아버지의 집안 사람들과 그녀에게 속한 모두를 살려 두었더라. 그런즉 그녀가 오늘날까지도 이스라엘 가운데 거하느니라. 이는 여호수아가 예리코를 정탐하라고 보낸 전령들을 그녀가 숨겨 준 까닭이라.
25 And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
26 ¶ 그러고 나서 여호수아가 그때에 그들에게 엄명하며 말하기를, “일어나 이 도시 예리코를 건축하는 사람은 주 앞에서 저주받기를 바라노라. 그가 자신의 첫 태생으로 그것의 기초를 놓을 것이요, 그가 자신의 막내아들로 그것의 성문들을 세워 올리리라.” 하였더라.
26 ¶ And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
27 이와 같이 주께서 여호수아와 함께하셨더라. 그러자 그의 명성이 온 지방에 두루 소문났더라.
27 So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
