1 이후에 서쪽 방향으로 요르단 측면에 있는 아모리족들의 모든 왕들과 바닷가에 있던 가나안족들의 모든 왕들이 주께서 이스라엘 자녀들이 넘어갈 때까지 요르단의 물들을 우리 앞에서 말려 버리신 것을 들었을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 이스라엘 자녀들로 인하여 그들의 마음이 녹았고 또한 그들 안에 더 이상 넋이 없었더라.
1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
2 ¶ 그때에 주께서 여호수아에게 말씀하시기를, “예리한 단도들을 너에게 만들어 두고 이스라엘 자녀들에게 다시금 두 번째 할례를 행하라.” 하셨느니라.
2 ¶ At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.
3 그리하여 여호수아가 예리한 단도들을 그에게 만들어 두고 포피들의 언덕에서 이스라엘 자녀들에게 할례를 행하였더라.
3 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
4 그런즉 이것이 여호수아가 할례를 행한 까닭이라. 이집트에서 나온 모든 백성 중 남성들, 곧 모든 전사들은 그들이 이집트에서 나온 뒤 도중에 광야 가운데서 죽었더라.
4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.
5 이때 빠져 나온 모든 백성은 할례를 받았더라. 그러나 그들이 이집트에서 빠져나왔을 때 도중에 광야 가운데서 태어난 모든 백성인 저들에게는 그들이 할례를 행하지 아니하였더라.
5 Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.
6 이는 전사들이었던, 이집트에서 나온 모든 백성이 진멸될 때까지 이스라엘 자녀들은 사십 년 동안 광야 가운데서 살아갔기 때문이니, 그들이 주의 음성에 순종하지 아니한 까닭이라. 주께서 그들에게는 그 지역을 보여 주지 않겠다고 그분께서 맹세하셨으니, 그곳은 주께서 그들의 조상들에게 맹세하시어 그분께서 우리에게 주시기로 하신 곳이요, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 지역이었더라.
6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
7 그리고 그분께서 그들을 대신하여 일으키신 그들의 자녀들, 곧 그들에게 여호수아가 할례를 행하였더라. 이는 그들이 할례를 받지 아니하였기 때문이니, 그들이 도중에 그들에게 할례를 행하지 아니한 까닭이라.
7 And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.
8 이후에 그들이 모든 백성에게 할례를 행하기를 마쳤을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들은 자신들이 온전하게 될 때까지 진영 가운데 있는 자신들의 처소들 안에 거하였더라.
8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
9 그러자 주께서 여호수아에게 말씀하시기를, “이날에 내가 이집트의 치욕을 너희에게서 떼어 굴려 보냈노라.” 하셨느니라. 이러한 이유로 그 장소의 이름이 오늘날까지 길갈이라 불리니라.
9 And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.
10 ¶ 이후에 이스라엘 자녀들이 길갈에 주둔하였고 그달 십사 일 저녁때에 예리코의 평야들 가운데서 유월절을 지켰더라.
10 ¶ And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
11 그리하여 그들은 유월절이 지난 뒤 이튿날에 그 지역의 묵은 곡식을 먹었으니, 누룩이 들어 있지 않고 둥글납작한 빵들과 볶아진 곡식을 바로 그날 먹었더라.
11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
12 ¶ 그러자 그들이 그 지역의 묵은 곡식을 먹고 난 뒤 이튿날에 만나가 그쳤더라. 또한 이스라엘 자녀들도 더 이상 만나를 얻지 못하였더라. 그러나 그들이 그해에 가나안 지역의 열매를 먹었더라.
12 ¶ And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
13 ¶ 여호수아가 예리코 옆에 있었을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그가 자기 두 눈을 들어 바라보았는데, 보라, 한 남자가 그의 맞은편에 서 있고 그의 손에는 그의 칼이 뽑혀져 있었더라. 그런즉 여호수아가 그에게 나아가 그에게 말하기를, “너는 우리 편이냐? 아니면 우리의 대적들 편이냐?” 하였더라.
13 ¶ And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
14 그러자 그가 말하기를, “아니니라. 나는 지금 오직 주의 군대 대장으로 왔노라.” 하였더라. 이에 여호수아가 자기 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 경배하였고 그에게 말하기를, “나의 주께서 자신의 종에게 무엇을 말씀하시나이까?” 하였더라.
14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
15 그러자 주의 군대 대장이 여호수아에게 말하기를, “너의 신발을 풀어 너의 발에서 벗겨 내라. 이는 네가 그 위에 서 있는 곳이 거룩하기 때문이라.” 하였더라. 이에 여호수아가 그렇게 행하였더라.
15 And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
