1 그렇게 하여 아비쟈가 그의 조상들과 함께 잠들었으니, 그들이 다윗의 도시 안에 그를 장사하였더라. 그리고 그의 아들 아사가 그를 대신하여 통치하였더라. 그의 날들에는 십 년 동안 영토에 평강이 있었더라.
1 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2 그리고 아사는 주 그의 하나님의 눈들에 선하고 옳은 것을 행하였더라.
2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
3 이는 그가 타국 신들의 제단들과 높은 처소들을 제거하였고 형상들을 부수어 냈으며 작은 수풀들을 베어 쓰러뜨렸기 때문이라.
3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4 그리고 유다에게 그들 조상들의 주 하나님을 찾을 것과 율법과 명령을 지킬 것을 명령하였더라.
4 And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5 또한 그는 유다의 모든 도시들에서 높은 처소들과 형상들을 제거하였더라. 그리하여 왕국이 그의 앞에서 평강을 누렸더라.
5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6 그리고 그가 유다에서 방비가 강화된 도시들을 건축하였더라. 이는 그 지역이 안식을 얻었고 그 여러 해 동안 그에게 전쟁이 없었기 때문이니, 주께서 그에게 안식을 주신 까닭이라.
6 And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
7 그러므로 그가 유다에게 말하기를, “영토가 아직 우리 앞에 있는 동안 우리가 이 도시들을 건축하고 그것들 주위에 성벽들과 망대들, 성문들과 빗장들을 만들자. 이는 우리가 주 우리 하나님을 찾은 까닭이니, 우리는 그분을 찾았고 그분께서 우리에게 사면에 안식을 주셨도다.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 그들이 건축하고 형통하였더라.
7 Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8 그리고 아사가 작은 방패들과 창들을 든 남자들로 이루어진 군사를 보유하였으니, 유다에서 삼십만 명이었고, 베냐민에서 방패들을 들고 활들을 당기는 자들 이십팔만 명이었더라. 이들은 모두 막강한 용사들이었더라.
8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
9 ¶ 이후에 에티오피아인 제라가 일백만의 군대와 삼백 대의 병거들을 대동하고 그들을 대적하여 나오는 일이 있었으니, 마레샤에 이르렀더라.
9 ¶ And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
10 그때 아사가 그를 대적하여 나갔으니, 그들이 마레샤에서 즈파다 골짜기 가운데서 전투 대열을 갖추었더라.
10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11 그리고 아사가 주 그의 하나님께 부르짖었으며 말씀드리기를, “주여, 많은 이들로 돕든지 능력이 없는 자들로 돕든지 당신께는 그것이 아무것도 아니니이다. 오, 주 우리 하나님이여, 저희를 도우소서. 이는 우리가 당신을 의지하며, 우리가 당신의 이름으로 이 무리를 대적하여 나가기 때문이니이다. 오, 주여, 당신께서는 우리의 하나님이시니이다. 사람이 당신을 대적하여 승리하지 못하게 하소서.” 하였더라.
11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
12 그렇기에 주께서 아사 앞과 유다 앞에서 에티오피아인들을 치셨더라. 그러자 에티오피아인들이 도망쳤더라.
12 So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13 그리고 아사와 그의 곁에 있었던 백성이 그랄까지 그들을 추격하였더라. 그리하여 에티오피아인들이 거꾸러졌기에 그들은 스스로 회복할 수 없었더라. 이는 그들이 주 앞에서와 그분의 군대 앞에서 멸망당하였기 때문이라. 그리고 그들이 아주 많은 노획물을 실어 갔더라.
13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14 이어서 그들은 그랄 주위의 모든 도시들을 쳤더라. 이는 주에 대한 두려움이 그곳들 위에 임하였기 때문이라. 그런즉 그들이 모든 도시들을 노획하였더라. 이는 지극히 많은 노획물이 그곳들 안에 있었기 때문이라.
14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15 그들이 또한 가축들의 천막들을 쳤고 양들과 낙타들을 넘치도록 날랐으며 예루살렘으로 되돌아왔더라.
15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
